The Scene
Part of an American chain that has true Erin roots, Fado has "Irish" decor down: stone formations, looms, trunks and garish Celtic imagery. The first floor is bar, angles and alcoves. The mezzanine is a faux ship's deck, with one long, curved banquette and few tables. Second-floor tables are mostly tiny, with little elbow room; seats are hard, backless stools.

The Draw

This faux olde Irish pub offers theme-entertainment and a full bar to tourists and River North office workers, plus it serves an undeniably nice pint of Guinness (and many other brews), thanks to the state-of-the-art European gassing system. This and the occasional live Irish folk music lend warm authenticity. The food menu offers the usual suspects of fish and chips, shepherd's pie, and boxty (potato pancake with filling), as well as American favorites like chicken fingers, sandwiches and salads.

Key Points

  • Authentic Irish Food & Drink
  • Televised Euro Sporting Events
  • Corporate & Private Parties

The Inside Scoop

  1. The Extras - Fado keeps special hours for early morning sporting events.
  2. When to Go - Soccer fans come here to catch their favorite team on TV, and there is often a line out the door during the World Cup Soccer tournament.

This pub has many levels and the rooms have themes which make it an awesome place to go. My favorite room is the one that is made to look like Victorian Dublin, but my friends like some of the others better. Make sure you walk around and see them all.

Another great part of this bar is the fact that they have live irish music almost every night, but you should call before making the trek out there to make sure that you are going on a night with music (or without, if thats what you prefer)

A couple of cold ones, corned beef and cabbage and I never heard of brown bread ice cream but trust me and the bartender. Can't wait to get back for a replay. I don't write reviews unless a place is extraordinarily (good or bad). I really liked this place and no, I'm not Irish.

Pros: Man comfort

Cons: None

I'm really into Irish pubs lately. This place is pretty good. Woudl recommend if you're looking for the Irish hang-out and don't want to go too far north.

I thought the pub and the entire staff were great!! From the moment I walked in it felt like home. I love the fact that I received a specialty glass for my pint of beer. It was a nice touch that I appreciated.
Food was great and service reminded me of when I was in Ireland as far as their friendly disposition. We came for a pint and stayed for the night!

Pros: Friendly Staff, Decor, PINTS!, food

Cowardly security men! Ladies beware! I suggest the nice manager at this Irish Pub re-think his big brawly security guard!

Cons: SERVICE

I was utterly and totally disgusted by the service I encountered at Fado's. A big brawly bouncer who decided to abuse his power rejected my entrance to this not-so-great pub simply because i asked for a manager when i realized i had forgotten my ID. He lied and told me he was the mangager and asked me to leave. He was merely a security guard. The REAL mangager eventually came out after I went home, got my ID, and came back. These guys really know how to treat a lady. LADIES...I don't reccommend you go to this place unless you feel like an evening of cowardly men.

Cons: service

Ratings_icons Cracking good spot

I'm over here from Ireland, and this pub IS like an Irish pub, but a newer Irish pub than the ones I've seen around here. The staff are excellent, the women are beautiful and the pints are great. I'd recommend the boxty and the fry as well. Top class.

Pros: Attractive women, Good beer, Not too crowded

This is a very cozy little bar, good for cold winter nights. It is a little dark inside so if you have a few too many guinnesses beware of the stairs. The food was more english than Irish and a good helping of cigarette and cigar smoke did no good to the taste of the food. The smell of second hand smoke is a little too overpowering in this pub which is the only thing that will keep me away next time.

Pros: cozy, good beer

Cons: too smoky, slow service

Fado is the only place to watch soccer, it was by far the number one pub for the world cup, and watching the English Premier League every weekend is a experiance worth seeing the football fans are a bread amounst them selves ,and they serve the best irish breakfast followed by the best tasting Guinness in chicago

Ratings_icons They pour a nice Guinness

peterbehle_citysearch

Yes, it's a "fake" Irish bar -- if you're bothered by shipped-in knick-knacks on the wall. But why worry yourself? They pour a very nice Guinness here, which is 90% of the battle in my book. Plus, the staff is friendly. Food is basic, but tasty -- and this is a frequent stop for on-duty cops wanting a quick bite.

Pros: Good Guinness

Cons: Not "authentic"
