I transfered here from SIE to attend SIUC. I moved mid semester and was very worried about finding a decently priced place to live. I called the office and within an hour met a staff member to start seeing properties. I was very worried about my time constraint but luckily they were able to find me a very nice two bedroom the same day. The whole process didnt even take a day. My apartment is awesome, thank you Home Rentals.

This is my first time renting from Home Rentals. The staff has been very helpful in my search to find the apartment that is perfect for myself and my three daughters. The neighborhood is perfect and I couldnt ask for better neighbors. The apartment has been well maintained and has had many modernized updates. I give them an A+++++++++++

I am in my 4th year of renting from Home Rentals. The reason I am taking the time to write this review is because I was very upset seeing the bad reviews by others. I have never had an issue with Home Rentals. I found their office staff to be very helpful and friendly. I have lived in a Home Rentals house and one of their town houses. I moved to a house once I got married and had a child. I would rent from this company again and would recommend it to friends.

I rented from home rentals for one year. The properties they own are barely maintained and getting them to come and fix problems was hard. The power was out in our rental for nearly two days due to faulty wiring before they came and fixed it. I wasn't impressed at that point but figured I couldnt really blame the landlord.
When we moved out, we cleaned the entire house. I expected to get a full security deposit back but instead they sent me a check for $20 claiming that the carpets needed to be shampooed and there were disposal fees. I reluctantly accepted it rather than get tied up in small claims court.
This is characteristic of all of their rental properties. Avoid this place like the plague.

I rented a small apartment from them for one year. Not really any problems, but then again nothing in my apartment went wrong. Decided to sign with them again and this is where the problems began. Let me start by explaining their system if you transfer from one property to another.

They give you a 2 day window of when you can move into your new property. The only problem is if somebody is living there. When I signed, I was told we would have to take it "as is" (according to them it just meant they wouldn't clean it before we moved in), which would leave us with nowhere to live for about 2 weeks between moving out of our apartment and into the house. I said 'sure' because I thought "how bad can a house really be?" I moved in and found out. The basement was floor to ceiling with cobwebs. Full of spiders. One of the bedrooms had dog poop caked on the floor so bad I had to scrape it off with a shovel. Trash piled in every corner of the house, but so far I still can't blame the landlord for trashy tenants (but letting somebody move into that?)

After filling out the initial discrepancy sheet for broken windows, leaky pipes, cabinets missing their doors, holes in every door in the house as well as the walls, and multiple other issues, they sent their handymen and replaced 4 doors. Didn't even attempt to fix anything else. I called several times and got "We'll be there next week." Finally after an entire year of living with trashbag windows, the city inspector came through and wrote 6 pages worth of things that needed fixed. I waited 3 months after he showed up and called the city to find out how long they had to fix it. They said 30 days and I said that's interesting, I'll have a talk with my landlord. Before I got a chance to call them, they had handymen there the next day. City and home rentals working together much? I think so. When the guys that they call contractors got here, I pointed out several things to them that weren't on the inspector's sheet (also note, the inspector did a terrible job.) One guy said "Ok, thanks for telling us." and the other guy said "We're only here to fix what's on the sheet." Nothing but what was on the sheet was fixed, even though I pointed out multiple cracks in the floor joists, termite damage, exposed wiring, and entire wall of the house that lost all electricity. The light socket quit working along with about 6 or 7 outlets. Didn't care.

They replaced cabinet doors with doors that don't even match. For the broken windows in the basement, they boarded them up with plywood (because we all know you don't need ventilation in a basement.) They surprisingly replaced our leaky water heater and even ran a new cable for it to have it's own breaker... but they ran the cable right across the middle of the ceiling and just nailed it in place. That's what we all want... bright orange cable running in plain sight across the ceiling

Wow, three 5-Star reviews on the same day! I have a feeling Home Rentals posted those- just check the date- 6/17/10. If you want to live in a dump, then rent here. The prices of their properties are dirt cheap, but it simply isn't worth it. The neighbors are loud and some are probably doing illegal activities. There are beer bottles and trash thrown all over the yard. Rent from someone else if you plan to live by yourself.

Starting in the fall i will be renting a home from home rentals....so far so good......the office staff was very helpful in finding a nice place within my price range....i went into a few houses that looked like pigs lived in it... i would by no means place blame on the staff....parents should come down and take a look at what their childern are doing instead of just going after the landlords.....

I have never had anything but good experiences with Home Rentals. The staff has always been very professional and courteous! We loved the property we rented and never had a problem and if we did the problems were taking care of when we called. These douchebags rent party houses and trash them and expect castles!!! I would strongly suggest renting from them!!!!

Avoid by all means!!! Office people are horrible, they lie, hang up the phone on you, cheat on contracts. My daughter signed the contract for 2-level unit, when she arrived they put her in 1-level unit and told her that this what she signed for - horrible lie! She specifically asked for 2-level. She had to stay with her Friends for a few days because her place is not even ready to move in! Office people are extremely rude.

These people are all crooks. They are able to stay in business because there are so many college students who need cheap housing. They don't fix anything- our house was randomly inspected by the city and they had to do a month's worth of repairs just to get it up to code. The house was filthy when we moved in (it took 8 hours of cleaning by 5 people just to make it liveable), and there was graffiti all over the walls. They refused to paint it- rather, they told us they would give us a paint voucher and we could paint it if we wanted to. Also, they have lawnmowers which they lend to their tenants. We asked for one over two weeks ago, received one with no gas, sent it back, and then we have not gotten one since. Meanwhile, the city came by and threatened a $75 fine if we don't mow the lawn. Home Rentals would not budge, claiming that they only have three lawnmowers for the 3000 properties they have. They are the worst landlords I have ever had. Also, rumor has it the owner (Henry Fisher) is in jail for child molestation (I don't know if that is a fact). At any rate, stay away from them if you can.

House was not clean when I moved in. Ants, roaches, and FLEAS. I didn't even have pets! Leaking roof in ALL THREE bedrooms. One bedroom had 3 leaks! They do not give a shit! I complained in August (when I moved in) about the leaks and had been calling every month to see how my far I was moving up on the "waitlist". Last bad storm came ANOTHER leak which ruined my laptop and desktop computers. I have home insurance, but they don't pay for shitty roofs! This time they put a blue tarp over the roof and it's been like this for a month! Home rentals owns this whole street (Hays) and all the houses are complete shit. Flooded basements and the walls are NOT insulated. You will enjoy extremely HIGH utility bills if you rent from them. My neighbor was put in the hospital with a respiratory infection due to the high mold count in the walls and ceiling. Home rentals doesn't care about the safety of its renters. All they want is your money! I know you might want to save some money by living in one of their cheap rentals, but you're much better off paying more for better rentals. I wish I did!!!!

We used them when we first got to Carbondale as a short term rental until our place was ready. They put us into a house that was disgusting and charged way to much rent for it. It was all hard wood flooring, which was nice, but the stove in the kitchen didn't work and the tub in the bathroom looked like it was going to fall apart!
