well i have been a patron of the library for so long and i have 2 really big complaints 1-why is it that when you go over there you ONLY get 1hour on there computers that isn't really enough time to do what you want .and 2- i am really sick of these kids around here
they go in to the library hollerin and screaming and really carring on
and they go into the room where they keep the cd's cd-rom's dvd's
and videos they tak these home and what do they do when they
return these there all scratched NOT playable and i could of sworn
up and down that the library had a rule that kids were not suppoosed to check these out but adults who have there cards can
and i want that rule enforced if they won't then i will

I strongly disagree with the other review of this library. While this library is small, it's situated in a very small town. ANY book you would like is available if only you take the time to LOOK in the computer system and yes some you may have to order, but the librarians are very helpful and the system itself is user friendly. Most books that you order can be had within a week and someone will personally CALL you and let you know that your selection(s) are available for pick up. What more could someone want?

I've read many books from their library that ranged from psychology , self-help, biographies, auto biographies, mythology, histories, dozens of popular magazines and back issues, etc., etc., and yes the VHS, DVD and CD selection is very good and also very organized.

I feel this person's review was unfair and unjustified. I have always received very friendly and helpful service from this small library and have ordered many books on various subjects and have always been very satisfied with both the books and the staff of this library and rarely am left wanting a title they cannot obtain for me.

And as for the 'Danielle Steele' comments, I don't know what section this person was in, but obviously they spent 5 minutes walking around with their nose in the air vs. having their eyes open to the various sections available, zoomed in on that particular area, didn't ask for help, didn't search the computer, etc., etc.,

This is a library, not a Barnes & Noble and some self-help is required and it never hurts to ASK someone behind the desk about a particular title if you're 'techically challenged' and cannot search the computer yourself or if you're simply don't care too.

I definitely recommend this little gem of a library.

Although the East Alton library has a nice, fairly new and well-maintained facility, its collection of books is quite lacking. I suppose it's what the community wants, but it's difficult to find any book on the shelves that's not written by someone like Danielle Steele or John Grisham. There is a small bookcase dedicated to new releases, but it's difficult to find anything there that might be called literature. The children's section is large, but most of the books are old and many of them are in poor condition. More money seems to be spent on the library's collection of DVDs. It's nice to be able to check out movies for free, but shouldn't a library also spend money on quality books?
