On Saturday 03/06/10, my family and I were in Big Lots in the Danville location. As we were attempting to check out and pay for our purchases, the only cashier shut his light off and closed, telling us we would have to go to another check out. As we are looking for another open check out, we notice 2 or 3 other shoppers doing the same thing. Not 1 check out was open, we asked several employees we seen standing around if they would open a register and were told it wasn't their job. One did go to the phone in the 'customer service' area to page and after 5 minutes of standing around and waiting to be checked out my family and I left with a cart full of items left sitting. Our purchase may have only totaled aprox. $200, but that was a $200 sale that could have been made in Danville. Instead, we went to Champaign and received impecable service. Danville is losing business and industry at an alarming rate. I would think that tolerating rude employees who do not want to do their jobs is something that a local store would think twice about. I know I'm letting everyone know of the lack of service in the Big Lots store on Gilbert St in Danville Illinois. This was at 2pm in the afternoon. NOT at close.

We love Big Lots because it is the only place to buy name brand toys at very discounted prices. We were there the other day and were very impressed with the staff at how nice they were. The store could use a janitor because the store was dirty but didnt really effect our shopping because it isnt a foodservice business so we really didnt mind so much. They have almost everything that you can imagine. We went in to buy a couch and we didnt really like the quality of their furniture but would buy tables etc just no couch love seat or chairs because they didnt have any comfortable enough for us. They are the cheapest on furniture then anywhere else and it is nice looking. We have never had a bad dealing with this store. Refunds are a snap as long as you have your receite.

PROS: Cheap name brand toys
CONS: dirty store but not worth worrying about.

Big Lots is great when looking for a bargain. You can normally find reasonably priced yard items, school supplies and baby items. The store often seems unorganized and dirty though. You have to carefully watch food items from Big Lots because they often are outdated and expired by a least several months. The staff vary from being friendly to rude depending on who is working.
