I think these people are good with our fury family. They work with you when it comes to payment and they seem to care about animal too. We have had the best care from them. They are a very busy clinic for animals. It is work the drive. thanks for caring for all our babies.

The saying you get what you pay for definitely applies here. Yes, Chatham Veterinary Clinic is very cheap. However, the staff is not the least bit compassionate, and I don't think the majority of them even like animals. My first experience there was nine years ago. I took my two cats there to be spayed and declawed. One cat ended up having complications from surgery, and her paws busted open. We took her back in, where the assistant to the vet handled her horribly, and the problem wasn't fixed, and we had to seek the help of an after hours emergency vet clinic. She still till this day cannot stand for her front paws to be touched, and I believe it is because it was a botched surgery. Today I called to make an appointment for my other cat who I believe has a bladder infection. The staff member I talked to on the phone was incredibly rude. She did not ask what she needed seen for, whether it was an emergency situation or not. She instantly just said that there were no appointments available until next week, and that I needed to call somewhere else. I then called the clinic that I have been taking my dog to, and they were able to get her in within the hour. It may be more expensive, but the kindness and quality of care is well worth the cost. I will never make the mistake of calling Chatham Veterinary Clinic again, nor will I be referring any friends.

this is the sweetest most caring vet I have ever taken an animal to,I am a single mother, i work part time and care for my grandmother wich also keeps me from working more hrs. I have a disabled child with a severe heart problem and I just took in a foster child that had nothing and am not receiving help for yet. my 7yr old cat has gotten really sick with diabetes at the worst time, I have been taking him to this wonderful vet that is working with me as we can not seem to get it under the control and money is extremely tight ,unfortunately the staff has been very mean and rude about it. The last visit my beloved pet's sugar level was still not under control ,very upsetting to me and my children on the way out the girls made it very, very, clear they did not approve of the vet giving us a partial break when we are just doing lab almost weekly, these women had me in tears as I left the building ,only to have my car overheat on the way home, they made me feel about 2 inchs tall for having low income ,i suppose those ladies think I should not have spent my money on a child that had nothing? Today I called and cancelled our next appointment and explained I just do not have the money to bring my cat this week and how they made me feel last week ,once again the lady that answered the phone was uncaring and rude! How can such a wonderful sweet caring vet that truly loves animals have such uncaring staff? I wonder what this lady would do in my situation,on the other hand seeming so cold she probably wouldn't bother to try to save a pet or help a child!!!

the vets are great...the staff at front desk are rude , unprofessional, and driving away business. which they will gladly tell you over the phone much of the vets business and shortcomings. and they get paid to do this ! very dysfunctional business. i just wish they could find cheerful professional staff that would run thier business right! or maybe this is the way they want to run it ? alyssa [says shes been there 4 mo] talks negative and rude to clients [especially when no one is in the office to hear because vet has apparently been in car accident last noc, venting her frustrations about her job and rude clients and driving business away. she is worse than kim who has is natzi receptionist of the group. this is almost humorous from afar except the vets in this office are really very good and i have built a longtime friendship and mutual respect with them and hate to see them run down this way by thier own staff ! what a mess.

Dr Boyce is the best, most responsible and considerate vet I have ever had the pleasure of having care for my 4 legged family members. He considers all aspects of a treatment plan, and the most effective, or economical, or stress free options, explains each to you, and together a plan for the care of the animal is made. His medical experience has saved a few of my pets over the decade I had spent in the outer Springfield area. Words could never express my gratitude for the times he had gone above and beyond the call of duty to help us.

Dr. Boyce is an amazing Vet. When my cat was hit by a car he called me himself and had me bring my cat in on the weekend after hours even and he performed the surgery there and didn't worry about the payment. He had me pay what I could at the time and worry about anything else later. One of my other cats came down with a mysterious illness where it was unknown if he'd pull through or not. Again Dr. Boyce saw my cat when the office was closed 2 times..and for one visit didn't even charge me at all. Thankfully whatever Dr. Boyce did for him helped him to pull through! I am so thankful for a Vet like Dr. Boyce and even sent a long thank you card to him for what he does. If you want a caring and compassionate vet then Dr. Boyce is who you should go to. I really wish more Vets were like him!! He cares more about what he does than the money involved. That is truly hard to find and I feel blessed to have Dr. Boyce as the Vet for my animals!

Dr. Boyce Sr. is amazing! he gives a thorough exam and doesn't charge crazy high prices. He is very fair and knowledgable about animals. I don'/t go to the vet to sit in a beautiful waiting room and pay for their leather office furniture!

Our Noelle - a black lab - started coming to Chatham Vet Clinic shortly after we got her as a pup from a private breeder in 1996. From toenail clipping to shots to emergency surgeries and even on the day we finally brought her in to be put down at age 14, she (and we) was treated with the utmost love and respect by the doctors and staff there. When we lost our beautiful girl in June, 2010, she gave me a final kiss goodbye. They allowed us to stay as long as we needed to with her after she went to sleep.

After nearly a year without our girl, we have decided to adopt an older female creme lab from a private breeder, and without hesitation, she will be treated by the docs and staff at CVC as our beautiful Noelle was.

I changed to this vet after losing my job (could no longer afford vet I had been using for 30 years). Place is dirty and office staff rude and inconsiderate. Would not take animal there for any kind of surgery. Only take for shots since I have multiple animals and annual shots are much more affordable there.

Called a couple weeks ago when my diabetic cat was extremely ill. Even though I have been taking my multiple animals there for years now, they could not make time to see her. I had to drive 30 miles to another clinic only to have her put to sleep. I asked the girl on the phone if they had ever heard of an emergency. She didn't answer.

If you love your pet, do NOT take it to the Chatham Vet Clinic. You will regret it.

We took our dog there for 7 years. excellent care by Dr. Boyce senior. When his son and daughter in law started working there the fees went up up up and the care went down down down. We adopted another dog that needed emergency care. They couldn't get her in for 4-5 days....unbelievable!!!! unacceptable!!!! So...after 7 years of being faithful customers we went somewhere else.

Like all medical practices, there will be good and bad stories.
I personally respect Dr Boyce and his staff. They are all
professional and like me, animal lovers. I think the office deserves a kudos for all their hard work and caring
disposition. I won't take my dogs anywhere else. Reasonable prices and kind, compassionate care. I rate them five stars plus!

Yes it's true, Chatham Vet is not the most clean and fancy clinic in the area, but I have been going to this clinic for 20 years. The vets there are not only my trusted vets, but my friends also. A relationship that was made over the 20 years I have been going there. Dr. Boyce is one of the oldest and most dedicated and experienced vets I know. He conducts his business in an old fashioned, completely genuine and caring and compassionate way. He still charges people the same fees he was charging 20 years ago and is not out to benefit himself. He has a genuine love and compassion for what he does and the animals he treats. He does not turn anyone away regardless of their ability to pay or the inconvenience of his time. Of course there are times when time just will not allow him to see everyone, but he will always makes an effort to accomodate everyone, if humanly possible. I have seen this man leave the office to save a drowning cow in the dead of winter. He will stay until the wee hours in the morning to perform an emergency surgery if need be. He works 7 days a week. He treats all the animals like their humans and comforts them and shows each one attention and love. Yes, it's true, sometimes there are long wait times to be seen, even with an appointment, but that is only because Dr. Boyce will not turn anyone away. His staff and receptionists are overwhelmed most of the time, and will sometimes have to ask clients to go elsewhere in an emergency situation because they know that Dr. Boyce will not turn anyone away, but know that he just cannot handle anymore appointments that day without causing extreme delay times for already scheduled appointments and exhausting himself. They are not turning people away because they just don't want to schedule an appointment. Yes, there are times when not every client is going to be pleased or satisfied with the service there, but, it's not the vets to be blamed. There is always a chance for complications and not every animal is going to respond to treatment as hoped for. And lets be honest, over 50% of their clients go there just because of their low fees. If you want to complain about the cleanliness, the wait times, then go to another vet clinic where you're paying for their fancy modern office, their short wait times and the brief examinations, then please by all means, spend hundreds of dollars on that service. I on the otherhand, prefer my old country doc that drives an old van and who will still make a house call if that's what's needed. I commend Dr. Boyce for sticking with his old time values and continuing to conduct business the old fashioned way, even if it does inconvenience some. Chatham Vet isn't this man's business, it's his passion and his life.

Well if you have a bad review to write about this place then you might want to relize what Dr you have. Don't just say Chatham Vet Clinic because they have three doctors. Every time I had taken my dog in to this one Dr who would treat my dog & it would be better for a little while then a week later I would have to go back again then again then again. Finally I had enough & I decided to give another Dr a chance & what do you know my dog is better & is medicated properly & has no issues reoccuring like it did. So when you say Chatham Vet Clinic just remember that there is that 1 dr that maybe is making them look bad & you are just taking it out on the whole staff. The girls at the front desk have never given me any trouble in the years I have been there maybe if you can't get in it's because they have more then they can handle in one day! So sometimes you may need to go somewhere else esp in a emergency!

i was quoted a price for my cat's spaying by Dr. Boyce's office and it was $400 !!! less than another vet (didn't like him anyway) had quoted me the day before.
But even more importantly, Dr. Boyce and his wonderful staff, are compassionate, considerate and very knowledgeable.
When I pulled into the parking lot yesterday, Dr. Boyce was leaning into the back seat of a car. The lady who owned the car told me Dr. Boyce was putting her dog to sleep. He is so compassionate to do it that way instead of making a poor animal have to go thru being taken into the office. Then when I came back out, the owner was insisting on paying Dr. Boyce, but he was adamantly refusing to accept any payment for his trouble. He is a very special person.
Thank you, Dr. Boyce for being who you are.
Thank you to Dr. Dobson for doing a great job on my cat's surgery.

I have been going to this vet for decades. They care about the pets I have brought them, although they cannot perform miracles, they would if they could and they certainly do try. The charges are reasonable. I highly recommend this vet.

I have been going to Dr. Boyce since moving to Chatham in 2004 and while the building is not new I have found them to be some of the most caring and considerate staff I have encountered in the last 40 years. He does not have the other doctors like were once there yet he still strives to serve everyone the best he can and that takes time. Yes, his is not a Capital Illini operation but if you want a Vet who serves you the old-fashioned way at a very reasonable fee, this is the place for you. I am sorry to read of a number of others who have not experienced what I have but can understand their grief as I have seen the doctor run off to a farm to help a birthing animal (who cannot wait) and then come back into the office to see patients after getting kicked or bitten by his patient. But if you can afford higher fees for services and want to be catered to, then by all means choose someone else. I will continue to go here as he not only cares for my dogs but also respects my situation.

Chatham has been seeing my family's pets for YEARS. My grandma used to own a farm on Curran blacktop. Doc Boyce would make house calls for her horses and their other animals, cats, dogs and geese. Then when my mom grew up and started having her own pets, she took them to Doc Boyce and the rest of the Chatham vet. Never had any problems! In fact, they have always been extremely good to our pets and I've never had any complaint. Now that I am grown, I take my pets there. I don't mind the wait for the vet. because I know it's worth it. I took my cat Chippy to get neutered and it's was both reasonable and time-efficient. They even de-wormed him and just included it in the "package."
One time I had an emergency, my cat Gimpy (at the time was named Yaz, but we changed his name to Gimpy) had gotten trapped in cage and really badly hurt his leg. We took him to the 24-hour vet on Wabash and was charged out the rear end for simple stuff. I think that visit was over three hundred dollars and they hardly did anything. Well, the next morning, I took him to Doc Boyce and they got him in as soon as they could and charged me half of what I got charged at the 24-hour vet and Gimpy was there at the vet for THREE WEEKS!! They saved his leg and now he's a healthy cat who loves attention. They also neutered him for free. I love this vet. I will continue to take my pets there for as long as they are open and I have pets.
Doc Boyce is such an amazing vet that every time he sees me inquires about my pets that he has seen in the past and still tells me stories of when he made house calls to my grandma's farm. 40 years of excellent service!!

I've been going to their clinic for 10 years now and have had nothing but the best help from them. When I was 9 my dog was hit by a car, and they did EVERYTHING possible to help her. We did not have an appointment scheduled, we had just brought her in because we were so panicked. I waited while they had 2 of their 3 available vets work on her for 45 minutes. Unfortunately, nothing could be done and I lost her. They were beyond sympathetic with me and charged my family nothing because they could not help her. That was in 1999.

Some years after in 2004 I believe, I had a kitten that was born with an ear problem, and could not walk straight. I took him in and watched them make a special formula to put in his ear. That got him walking straight, but he had a large bubble in his ear still. They drained it for an extremely low price and like magic, he was cured. His ear was always flat from that problem, but that just gave him even more character, lol.

In 2008 after they stopped doing walk-in appointments, I had a rat with serious respiratory issues when I returned from a vacation. Once again I called the vet in panic that night and left a message on their answering machine. The vet himself called me promptly at 8AM the next morning, and asked me the soonest I could come in. I said right now, and he told me to come. Unfortunately my rat was too far into his illness and had other complications that he could not be saved, but the entire time the vet was nothing but sympathetic to my cause. Again, after taking an x-ray and giving him meds, he charged me nothing.

If you're willing to wait for just a little while, even with an appointment as some of them run over their estimated time (which happens with all vets at some point or another), this is most definitely the best vet to go to in Chatham. I have never met anyone so dedicated to their job and who cares so much about their patients, human or not.

Our first experience with these folks was when my wife's older dog (she was like 16, and like a child to my wife, so this was a terrible time for her) had a couple stroke's, and eventually had to be put to sleep. The Doc was caring and extremely sensitive to my wife's emotional state, he was incredible, and my wife eventually got through losing her baby (you never really do, but as best as can be expected). This situation could have gone bad to worse very quickly, and because of he Doctors tone and method (just putting the dog to a state of unconsciousness, instead of actually administering the medicine that finally put her to sleep with my wife present) made the situation at least bearable. My wife never had to see her baby dead, and this was a huge factor in helping her heal emotionally. The cremated her, and gave the wife a very nice little tin, with a bow and a sweet prayer, that she keeps on her bed stand right next to her at night. The way the Staff and Doctor handled the situation was incredible thoughtful and they have my thanks for their ability to handle the situation with a caring and understanding tone.We have 4 little dogs, and our next time there, my smallest, a morkie ( a Morkie weights may be 4-5 pounds fully grown... little guy) had gotten into a fight with a bigger dog, his eye was torn up pretty badly, and it took me 45 minutes after just to get the bleeding somewhat under control. not knowing what the hell to do, I finally called out there maybe an hour before closing time, the doctor got on the phone and walked me through a couple things to help get the bleeding slowed, and finally stopped, then told me to bring him out. they were at the end of their day and when we got there it was quite obvious that they had a number of patients yet to see, we were in a room in less than 5 minutes. The doctor took my little guy back, gave the dog a downer of some type (a shot to relax him so that he could work on him, and had him fixed up in no time, we were out of there probably 45 minutes later. The stitches in the dogs eyelid healed perfectly. There were two things that struck me as "going above and beyond". Not only was the doctor patient and helpful while on the phone with me, he was quick to treat my little guy, and the kicker was, we were flat on our behinds broke that day, no way we could pay up front for the entire treatment. he was nice enough to let us come in a couple days later after I'd been payed and cover the cost of everything. Now in the past, I'd had situations with animals, where we couldn't get them treated because the treatment amount was bigger than what I had in my wallet (one of the strokes my wife's dog had had previously for example)at other Springfield area veterinary clinics (pretty much every clinic in Springfield pretty much told us to piss off if we couldn't pay for it, or, we could buy "dog medical insurance" (some type of pamphlet they keep in the office for medical care treatment credit) for some outrageous rate (and you have to have golden balls of credit to get it... so not only would they not treat her dog, which had just had a major stroke, her eye was red, completely bloodshot, like a vein had exploded, she couldn't walk 2 steps without falling over, severely disoriented, these clowns hand me a pamphlet, then tell me, well we can't do anything... it was two weeks later we found these terrific people at Chatham who finally put her out of her misery). Finally, I had to deal with two pregnant girls a short time later, my male shih tsu had been busy, knocking up our female shih tsu (he'll be getting his wings clipped in november), and our Bichon Frise in a matter of about 2 days... I thought the bichon was having a minor complication one day, it was after hours on a Sunday, and when I called, hoping SOMEONE would be able to give me some idea of what to do.... The doctor actually answered the phone, and talked us through how to handle the situation. now he's gotta be the only Doctor I've EVER heard of who takes his own emergency calls, and gave us his own free time to help us out. All in all, we love this Doctor, him, and his staff have been nothing but courteous, helpful, understanding, and to be perfectly honest, we wouldn't know what to do without them. This place as far as prices don't even come close to what the other Veterinarians in the Springfield area are price wise. the Emergency treatment on my morkie would have gouged us, and jammed me up badly financially, but they didn't poke our eyes out. they took care of my little guy, and didn't nail me in the wallet, and I am eternally grateful for them ,and for what they've done for us and our babies. I've read the negative reviews listed here and I just cannot imagine that they are talking about the same wonderful caring staff and Doctor we'd dealt with. In my experiences with them, they truly care for and about the animals, and getting paid, and gouging us money wise was a distant second.

my dog (at the time was 4 mons old) was spayed (in feb 2007) by chatham vet clinic... a week later she became very ill.. coughing & coughing and with that came vomiting, she couldn't hold anything down at all not even water... so I tried to get her in to she our vet the next morning at the chatham vet clinic, they said that they were too busy & had no open appointments so I asked if I could at least have my vet call me they said yes & took my name & number & this was around 10:30 am... so I waited (I never heard of such a thing most places will try to work you in for an emergency at least that's what I thought) by 12 pm I hadn't heard a thing so I called them back... still the same thing we are busy & we have no appointments open & the vet may not get to your call back of course we will remind him that you want him to call you, but however if you wish to do so you are welcome to go somewhere else.... & I said that is ridiculous you people just did surgery on her I figured that he would want to know if she was this sick, so please have him call me.... I called back again around 2 pm... the vet was out of the building for a while & nobody else was available to talk to me.... I told them oh my goodness there's like 4 or 5 vets in the clinic & nobody can return my call, well we are really busy & I will remind them that you are waiting for a call back, but you are welcome to go somewhere else if you like. well I didn't believe that this girl on the phone was speaking for my vet.... surely he didn't know that this was going on.... this was so unprofessional & the receptionist that keep answering the phone was very rude & cold hearted.... so about 4:10 pm or so I called back & demanded to talk to somebody with higher authority there... after about 10 or 12 minutes another older lady came on the phone & said that they were busy & all vets were gone accept one & that one would be leaving in 20 minutes so I would have to try back tomorrow or if I wanted I was welcome to go somewhere else... I just couldn't believe what I was hearing.... so I took her some where else & this new vet that I went to stayed open until I got there (I live out of town & I was 45 minutes away) & also stayed 3 hours over treating my dog.... now that's a caring vet!!! Little did we know about a week after this all happened we found out that the surgery that the chatham clinic did on my dog would lead to her going through complication now for the rest of her life.... but we are learning to live with it. She will be 2 yrs old in Oct of 2008 & other than that she is pretty healthy!!

We have been taking our animals to this clinic for as long as I can remember and the doctors could not be more caring. Yes, you have to wait a while because it is a very busy business, but it is worth the wait. The doctors really care about the animals, and the prices are reasonable.

My girlfriend's dog broke is leg in an accident and she took him in on a friday and said that the surgery would be done on Saturday. They also told her that they would call when the surgery was done. Saturday night, my girlfriend finally gets a call from the vet saying that the surgery was done and the dog was fine. She asked if we could pick him up on sunday and he told her that we had to wait till monday afternoon. Well I go in on monday to pick him up and find out after waiting in the office for over a hour that the surgery was not done and that her dog was in the OR right then. So he was taken in friday morning and had to wait till monday for his surgery. When I got angry and asked why we were told he was done with surgery, ok, and ready to go home. Then find out that he hasn't had anything done, they told me that it was because of an accident and emergencies that he wasn't ready. Then I asked why someone hadn't called us on monday morning and said that he wasn't ready. I find this clinic dirty, rude, and unhelpful. I wouldn't take anything to this butcher.

If I could give no stars I would. We took our cats to Chatham Vet for almost all thier lives, and we never had a problem. The last time we went my cat was very sick and we were told she need emergency surgery, and that they were staying overnight to do the surgery. The next day after a restless night, we had to call them to find out what happened. The receptionist told us that Vegas made it through the surgery. We came to find out later that day that she had not even had surgery. And that she wasn't okay. So again we kept calling and calling and we got bull crap excuses every time. She stayed there for 4 days before getting her "emergency" surgery. And she died that night, because they don't stay with the paitents after a "emergency" surgery. They didn't call us we had to call them to find out she was DEAD!!! The communication is the most unbelievable, disturbing thing ever. Not only did we have to call in to find out that she was dead, they called her a boy numerous times. They should be shut down.

We have taken our dog to this vet for almost 7 years now. The doctors there are extremely knowledgeable and caring and the prices charged are always reasonable. Unfortunately, they seem to schedule too many appointments in one day and the wait to see a veterinarian can be hours long - even with a previous appointment.

I have only been to this vet a few times but every time I have gone they have been very friendly and helpful. I have some bad memories as the last time I was here my dog had to be put to sleep, but they did everything the could before it came to that. Their prices are much better than the other vets in town and overall I very highly recommend it to others.

I have taken my animals to Chatham vet for years. They are very good at taking care of them and diagnosing problems. They are very reasonably priced and I highly recommend them to anyone with animals.
