Biggest complaint about Emmons School in Antioch is the favortism that the most K-5 teachers are guilty of with a specific handful of students whose moms are "higher profile" at Emmons. In order to get the VIP student treatment at Emmons, you have to have a certain last name or a mom who's very involved with the PTO. If there's ever a dispute between a non-VIP child and a VIP child, you can bet the teacher will always be in the VIP kid's corner. The Emmons teachers are friends with VIP parents on facebook, many teachers & parents/kids live in the same neighborhood and see each other outside of school, some VIP dads do construction work for Emmons teachers & their homes, VIP kids always get special privledges and are called on more in class, get smiles, hugs & greetings in the hallways by the teachers while the other non-VIP students are chopped liver. The rules are constantly bent for VIP parents for parties, party hopping for those families with multiple students, etc. but are strictly adhered to for the non-VIP parents. The paraprofessionals are nasty and rude. They should not be around kids. They scream at kids at recess and at lunch, bark & order them, they're disrespectful, but you're okay if you & your child is VIP. Even my Kindergartner can name all the "important kids" that the teachers give special treatment to. And if you're not a VIP parent, you get treated like crap too by some of the teachers & paraprofessional. Kelly Y on the playground (and she's an aide) is just so nasty. She shouldn't be working at Emmons.
