Have been going to Bob San for years and have to say that I am never disappointed! If I could live off the pan-fried scallop appetizer I certainly would--it's as addictive a dish as I've ever come across. The quality of the fish is always the freshest and the portions appropriate. I'd brought a business associate from Switzerland that travels the world over and seeks out the best sushi places and he went back to Bob San THREE TIMES during the week he spent in Chicago. Highly recommend to beginner & expert alike!

This was recommended to me by a friend who said it was the best in Chicago. I can now confirm his assessment! Walking in, you're greeted by very friendly staff and they are quite attentive. The atmosphere is great for a date. The food is just delicious! Best sushi I've had in Chicago! Highly recommended!

The first sushi dinner I ever had was at Bob San. This was 8 years ago and I have been coming back at least once a month ever since! Every single time I have eaten here the service and sushi quaility have never wavered....NEVER. As long as I live in Chicago I will be dining at Bob San!

I don't know who everyone else is encountering at this place but I have never had a bad experience with any of the Bob San staff. Everyone is always friendly and accomodating. I eat here or order carry out at least once a week. They have amazing sashimi- super fresh. Everything is always delicious and they allow me to customize my rolls the way I like them. I love this place and bring anyone I have in from out of town!

My wife and I have dined at this restaurant multiple times. The sushi very good. However, the service isn't just poor, it's insulting. Upon a recent visit - our second visit within one week - a manager treated us very disrespectfully with regard to our bill. Long story short, the restaurant had agreed to save a bottle of Saki for us for one week. Upon asking that they continue to do so (as previously agreed to), the manager on duty treated us very rudely. An opportunity to build a positive relationship with a frequent guest turned into a disappointing evening, and a desire to never dine at Bob San again. Too bad.

We eat in at Bob San off and on because it is close by. Thursday night we decided to do take-out. We showed up at the designated time, in 20 minutes, and they hadn't even started the order. We had been told it would be a few minutes. I was asked to go outside and get out of the way of other customers coming in. I went outside, came back in after another 20 minutes and it still wasn't ready. I was told I could go sit on the sofa or at the bar if I wanted. I went back outside with my friends for another ten minutes, came back in and it still wasn't ready. One of the girls had to go home with her baby so the rest of us waited another ten or fifteen minutes before we got our food, so that makes 1 hour from the time we called the order in. The hostess never would make eye contact with us, put the food on the table and walked away. They did a wonderful job with the food but she was really rude and not apologetic at all. Yes, they were busy, but being a hostess is her job and she should be more accommodating and pleasant.

I am a sushi snob and Bob San is the hands down the best sushi in Chicago...if not the best restaurant in Chicago. It?s amazing!!! The fish is always fresh and the rolls are soooooooooo good and not ridiculously complicated with too much mayo and cream cheese. Bob (owner and chef) is the best, the atmosphere is great and the service in incredible. It?s my happy place!

Bob san offers fresh sushi at reasonable prices. It can get crowded on weekends, so reservations are helpful. Nice atmosphere and good service. I go often and am always pleased with my meal.

I live close so this place is convenient. It has a nice low-key atmosphere, excellent sushi and good service. A little overpriced for take-out, but it's worth it for a nice dining-in experience.

Fried scallops are the best. All of the traditional sushi items you've had over the years can be found on the menu. Sushi is fresh. Some little twists to standard sushi items that add a nice twist. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Great for large parties or the intimate dinner. Atmosphere can accomodate them all. Try the cold saki. It's great.

If you like sushi, I mean really like sushi, this is the place for you. The staff is Japanese, but very american friendly, the sushi is cut generously. Bobby can make you things that are not on the menu! If it's not busy, challenge him to do so. He made me a 'desert' sushi of fresh salmon with a single, razor thin, slice of cuccumber wrapped around it a few times then poured a thin sweet sauce over the top, something you might find on a tai cuccumber salad. It was delicious. Also, ask him to give you the sushi in the 'correct' order. In Japan you will get your sushi in a certain order that is more correct than just all on a big plate like we do it here. Tell Bobby, Middy sent you! I wish I lived in Chicago still...

And I'm not wow'd easily :) Love this please, the people are kind, expedient, know their sushi. The ambience is excellent, everyone feels VIP. The only thing is the tables in the dining room are a tad crowded, but I guess that could also be part pf the appeal... a very good looking crowd to be packed in tight with! Great bar, tasty aesthetics as well as menu. Enjoy! I'm definitely going back.

Cons: Tight Space, Pricey

Brought some family visiting from out of town here last Tuesday. Beautiful interior. Server was friendly and prompt. All the rolls and individual pieces of sushi we ordered were excellent. Everyone enjoyed the food. Skip the teriyaki chicken, it was just so-so.

Not only is the food amazing, but the staff makes you feel welcome. Everyone has a big smile and is eager to please. None of the other sushi places in Chicago can hold a candle.

I really love this joint!! I used to live in Ukranian Village and stop by Bob Sans all the time. They're open late and it's always a relaxed atmosphere where you can get affordable tasty sushi. I will often sit and have dinner in their lounge. I go out of my way to stop by for sushi when I get the hankering!

We live closer to Sushi Wabi, but prefer Bob. His rolls aren't as varied or artful as Sushi Wabi, but the quality of fish is top noitch.

BOBSan is quite possibly the best sushi restaurant in town. The ambience is fabulous and the service is amazing, even during the busiest times of day. The food is top-notch and the prices are not too high. The only criticism I have for this restaurant is that the tables/chairs are awkward and slightly uncomfortable. The tables have a large post underneath them that takes a lot of "leg room" away. Also, some of the tables are set extremely close together, but let that stop you from checking out this restaurant!

I travel extensively to Europe, Asia/Pacific and especially US. Bob San is the best all around sushi place in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, San Fransisco and San Diego. Excellent sushi, music, atmosphere, comfort and service.

Come to think of it, it is a best kept secret so forget what I said or I won't get a table! :)

As you walk in the door, you are automatically greeted by owner/chef Bob and staff. The service is wonderful, and we reccommend sitting at the sushi bar - Bob is a friendly guy who will help guide your sushi needs (if you need guidance). Otherwise, sit back, enjoy a glass of wine along with wonderful sushi!

I went to Bob San this week and really enjoyed the experience. I thought the sushi was fresh and very good. I loved the huge selection of rolls they offer. It's always nice to try different rolls at different places. I think it's just as good as Kamehachi and Mirai as far as quality; it's just the atmosphere may not be as appealing to some.
