awesome food, European style
by Hanno R.
The food was delicious, I had fried calamari (very tender) with lemon wedges and a very authentic tomato-basil dip, Spaghetti Puttanesca and a glass of Chianti, and at the end Tiramisu, a sambuco and a nice coffee. I paid $45 , including a very generous tip, because the service was awesome, they brought the next food immediately when we were finished with the current one, but not too early, and they didn't interrupt our conversations or bother us all the time or rush us, unlike in most American places. They constantly refilled water, and paid a lot of attention, although the restaurant was crammed until to the last seat. Most people seemed to be local and many seemed to be of Italian descent, not many tourists except us, in spite of close proximity to the museum, probably because we went there in the evening, after the museum was closed. This was one of the best restaurants I have been to in the USA.

This is a tucked away secret in Hyde Park very close to LSD and MSI. It is found at the ground floor of the Windemere, itself a pretty little establishment. Piccolo Mondo's ambitions are modest, but they offer up an intimate Italian setting with class and warmth. Lovely wait staff, great wine selection, and any kind of pasta you can imagine. Great for a date, too.
