Pep Boys is Unfair & Over Priced
by ralph d.
I am so displeased with the new pep boys, I sent my daughters car in to check out the front end she just bought the car and it had a slight shimmy from the tires the dealer had put on before she left. I knew all it needed was for the two tires to be balanced she was told she had to have it Evaluated first. So they started off with the drivability Evaluation that cost $89.99 then steering/sup Evaluation at a cost of $19.99 and then the SHOP FEE OF $30.99 that was bad enough but then she gets a call that she need two tires at a cost of $106.00 each we just had them put on and her front brakes and rotors needed to be replaced the estimate was well over $1,000.00 and all she wanted was the tires balanced. I finally called them and told them just put the tires back on and fix what she said to fix it one hour later she was told her car was done it still cost her $449.24 by the time they were done beating her up with the little charges. Mr. Pep Boys you should be ashamed of your self you lost me as a customer and I will be sure to pass the work on.

Pep Boys is SCUM
by JOSEPH S.
I had a battery change in pepboys ft.lauderdale sunrise blvd 2yrs ago july. The car wouldnt start after leaving for business trip 4days upon return.I had cables and gave it a charge. it started...used it for an hr drive ...after leaving car for 5 hrs it wouldnt start again..used cables..went to pepboys on sunrise blvd ft.lauder where i purchased it. the guy tried to tell me it was the alternator-after testing it. the story didnt sound right...i went another pepboys 10 miles away he tested it said it was the battery..(of course, i didnt mention what the original place said) he replaced battery and i had no problems. this cost 100.00 the first pepboy waNTED 400.00 for alternator. I should have received free battery as i still was under warranty..I feel robbed and have no trust in your company anymore..I was told my others -this is problem others have with your services..i deserve refund or some sort of reimbursement . my email address joeyboy500@yahoo.com

Unfair labor practices...
by Doreen R.
After experiencing excellent service just a week before, I had an awful one. I needed to have new brake rotors installed and was told it would take about 2 hours. It took a little less than that so I was pleased, until I looked at the bill and realized I was charged for 3 hours of labor. When I questioned the clerk I was told that the time is predetermined by a system established by the government. He told me that this system is designed to set a time frame on certain types of maintenance and 3 hours of labor is the allotted time for brake rotors. He told me it dosen't matter that his mechanic was "too quick", he can't change it. I told him that wasn't fair, being charged $85 for an additional hour of labor not used. I will never do business with them again.

Be careful with these guys !
by Jack C.
My daughter went to these guys to repair a tail light. She was told that she needed a rear taillight harness, and that it would cost about $300 - parts and labor to repair. We called a dealer for a second opinion and were told that this was highly improbable and they explained why. My daughter paid the $100 diagnostic fee and found out that a wire had been pinched by the trunk mechanism and severed. The service guy spliced the wire and taped it with electrical tape. Her tail light works fine now. Draw your own conclusions folks.

Very Helpful...Know What You Want
by Jody B.
After a fender bender the night before, I brought my car in first thing in the morning to assess an antifreeze leak. I got in right away and Louis was extremely nice and helpful. Totally for free, he walked me out, popped the hood, and explained to me that the damage was with the radiator and that if I wanted the chance to claim it, I should call my insurance before he investigated further or removed any parts. He explained to me that if he went in and found more damage, that the insurance might not cover anything. So instead of just going in to fix it without telling me this, he probably saved me a ton of money out of pocket ( I initially thought it might just be a busted hose or something I could pay out of pocket...the damage with body work was actually about $1500 so I'm glad he advised me of this). After finding it was an insurance job, another guy who worked there quickly tried to recommend his friend's shop (R&N Complete Auto Repair) who would tow the car, repair all the damage, and save me the deductible or more if I had them fix it. Since his friend's place was not approved by my insurance, I didn't know them or their work personally, and it would be 3 days to get a separate insurance estimate, I decided against it. But I did have R&N's tow guy tow me to the insurance approved dealer (C & W Auto Body...also Very Good) and the tow guy (Raul) was really nice.

Didn't Hustle Me!
by umbrella h.
I remember a negative experience with this place about 8 years ago... I think they wanted to replace a friend's flat tire instead of patching it. I was wary of them.
Recently, I had my car towed here on a Sunday because it wasn't starting when I came home from a short vacation and no other shops were open. These guys called me back and said nothing was wrong with my car. They could have scammed me and didn't. Maybe they were lazy that day? Still, it was a postive for me.
I found out afterwards my girlfriend had gone under the hood and wiped clean all the sparks. Wish I had thought of that before I panicked.

Avoid this place!!!
by Anonymous
This was honestly an incredibly humiliating experience and I urge people to take their business elsewhere. They substituted products without consulting me and basically treated me like a dumb broad for questioning them on it. To add to the insulting treatment, they charged me about $20.00 more for towing than their 800 number quoted me and said "Too bad. That's your problem." I'm making it my mission to inform as many people as possible about the RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL treatment. I'll take my business to Firestone next time.

When my mechanic asked me to purchase a part for my car, I was afraid I'd do it all wrong. But my mechanic recommended Pep boys and I'm so glad he did! I just had to go in to this HUGE store and one of the sales reps there pulled out the exact part I needed. All I had to do was supply him with the make and model of my car. I loved the service here and the prices were great as well. i will definitely go here again if I ever need car parts or any sort of service on my car!

Suspicious Business Ethics
by Chi S.
I, in all honest to goodness, suspect these guys with tampering with your car once they've fixed something. My latest experience with them, which confirms my suspicion, is that it's costing me well over $200 to replace the battery. I've been jump starting my car for the last week. I figured it's either the battery or the alternator. Possibly both. So far, they have replaced my battery, ignition switch, and some other parts that have nothing to do with why it wouldn't originally start.
In addition, when I asked to speak to the store manager, I was forced to wait for about half an hour, and was only able to talk to an assistent manager who seemed to have no authority what-so-ever. The manager was on the phone the entire time laughing and giggling the entire time, probably on a personal phone call.
I'm actually writing an official letter of complaint to the Pep Boys main office, followed by a similar letter to the Better Business Beareau.
PROS: None
CONS: Questionable Business Ethics, Rude store manager.
