Nothing better than pizza in Chicago, nice unassuming pizza, not your traditional Chicago style

I have recently moved from Chicago and dreamnt of Pequods last night. Their caramelized crust and amazing ingredients made this place a staple for my family. I am thinking of driving back for a pie this weekend. :)

I went to Pequod's Pizzeria in Lincoln Park tonight with Windy City Pizza Club. They took our reservation because we had a large party and honored it with a nice table in the upstairs area. The tables were nice, but the lighting was poor. I suppose the building is just old though. The menu was pretty good with a basic amount of pizza which was expected from places that specialize in making good crust.\n\nI ordered a Pan Sausage 10 inch which is a pretty awesome size wise as it feeds 1-2 people with 4 giant slices. I really like burnt crust and this was awesome stuff. They caramelize the crust to a dark brown color and crunchy texture. The pizza itself was good, not great as it had way too much tomato sauce. I really liked the crust and sausage!\n\nObviously, I was with a group of 20 people which usually results in semi slower service, but shouldn't have been this slow. I am not sure if they didn't have enough servers on, but it was pretty terrible. By far the worst service I have ever had at a pizza place. Don't get me wrong, our waitress was sweet and nice and helped us out, but it was extra slow tonight. The pizza's took almost an hour to come out, and some pizza's got screwed up in the kitchen and came out even later than that. Water service was slow but not important as there were no bus boys on duty. \n\nAgain, the pizza was definitely good, not great, and our waitress was nice, but the actual service wasn't good. The check actually came out with just a bunch of numbers on it. We had no clue what they stood for until we had it clarified for us. I would go back, but not with a large group.

I went here because many have raved about the pizza here. I was under the impression it was another deep dish pizza place but it's really pan pizza, not deep dish. The caramelized crust is very tasty but overall I find the pizza to be too doughy. It's nice they let you order toppings for just half the pizza and service is quick and friendly. Overall I enjoyed the pizza but it probably doesn't live up to the hype.

Restaurant has nice ambiance and it could be very busy. However, I do not understand how this overloaded with sauce deep pizza got so many great reviews. It looks like somebody left if for a few hours outside so all ingredients are melted together in one messy mold. It looks and taste much different than any other very known places in Chicago.

I have never lived in Chicago, but occasionally visit for business and/or visits with friends. I discovered Pequod's after visiting a friend in Lincoln Park and it has been my favorite pizza ever since. I've taken co-workers, friends, and family there when we've been in town. The pizza is unlike any I've ever eaten--it's the best. I don't know what else to say here, other than I've hopped in many a Chicago cab and told them to take me ""near Webster and Clyburn"" to Pequod's in my southern accent (I've never lived above the Mason Dixon line). That may disqualify me from judging pizza in some people's minds, but I guarantee you that if you eat a pizza at Pequod's, you'll know what I mean. It's been way too long...need to plan a trip.

Pros: The greatest pizza I've encountered.

Cons: They don't have one in other cities.

Deep dish is excellent. Trademark is no crust, just burned cheese. Trust me, sounds strange, but it is excellent. Thin crust is not good, though. Is very expensive for a pizza joint. ~$25 for a large deep dish delivered.

Pequod's is a bar/pizzeria. The deep dish is EXCELLENT and has a very strong reputation. The beer selection is good as well. It's right across the street from Webster place so it's perfect to go stuff yourself fat and pizza and beer and go watch a movie while you digest slowly.

who is this register girl she was terrible... I went in friday night expecting everyone to be nice and friendly since all me friends have recommended this place to me... I went and got my pick up... the first two girls and the front table helped me right away... one of them went to go check on me pizza she came back and told me it would be five minutes... NO PROBLEM... the other girl asked me if i wanted to seat at the bar while i waited and i ordered a drink the bartender guy was hilarious! then the register girl (the one that looks like a man with a big nose) comes up to me all snobby and asked me if i wanted to pay... there are alot pretier girls in this restaurant and were not walking around thinkning that they were alot better than everyone.. the pizza is expensive but delicious... my fiance and i finished it so quickly... it was just so delicious... all of the employees were great i'm sure we all hate people who think they are better then everyone... maybe it's just me but i despise ugly snobby girls... other then that yes i will go back to pequod's YUMMMMMM

Pequod's isn't anything fancy - actually, it's a bit ""rundown"" but that doesn't matter when you're going for great pizza. I'm partial to the pan pizza, so my comments are directed to the pan pizza. The service is quick and the staff is really friendly. Every once in awhile, I order their par baked pizza to cook at home and it always tastes as good as it does in the restaurant.

This is one of my favorite pizza places in the city. I enjoy the pan pizza much more than the stuffed ""Chicago style"" crust. Since the fire, they have definitely cleaned the place up, so it's likely they'll get more customers who were afraid to come in before. Although I didn't mind the ""dive"" experience that Pequod's used to provide, you can't ignore the fact that the pan pizza is still excellent. The carmelized crust is fantastic. The service can be slow, but consider that part of the relaxing experience. Watch the game. Enjoy the pizza!

Pequod's has Chicago's greatest deep dish, hands down. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for it's waitstaff. Each time we have gone to the restaurant, we've found it to be slow and unorganized. We've vowed to stick to delivery. The thin crust pizza is VERY thin, be prepared. The pan pizza is absolutely my favorite-topped liberally with toppings and with a great crust. I would highly recommend this to any fan of Chicago deep dish, and would chose it over the ""famous"" deep dish places any day of the week!

NOT the best Chicago pizza. No one can even compare it to NYC thin crust. I ate the thin crust here, not the pan pizza. It was a lot like Ranalli's. \r\nI dont understand why everyone on this site thinks this is great pizza. I dont get it.\r\n

Pequod's just isn't the same. Since the reopening, the place looks like starbucks took over pizza hut. The atmosphere is completely dull and the staff is disorganized. What ever happened to the guy in the yankee's cap, the music, the fun, the energy? The pizza has been equally as inconsistent too. I used to sit at the bar for hours eating and drinking, having a blast. Now it is just boring. It is really too bad the fire didn't just burn the building...but the soul of pequods too.

I've lived in Chicago for 6 years and I've had pizza at basically ever other ""Best Of"" in the city and Pequods is by far my favorite. I eat there about 2-3 times a month. My girlfriend and I don't even have to order any more they just recognized us when we come in and ask if we want the usual. Good Food, Friendly Service, Good Prices...

The only pro is the pizza, not the thin crust (thats gross, don't buy by the slice), the pan pizza is excellent. Unfortunatly, the place looks really gross, no ambiance, no comfortable feel, it doesn't even pass as a sports bar, its just gross. The service is worse and the attitude of the saturday night manager is pathetic. If you're in the mood for good pizza, I suggest getting it delivered.

Being born and raised in an Italian home in Chicago with HOMEMADE pizza being cooked in the oven weeky, I am sooooooooooooooo picky picky picky about the pizza that goes in my mouth! \n\nI've been eating Pequod's for six years, and I have NEVER had a bad pie!! \n\nIts thick, its cheesy, its got carmalized crust. \n\nAnd oh my goodness - the sauce has FLAVOR (unlike other ""Chicago-style"" pizzas). Thick crust and lots of cheese don't make a good pizza. Pequods has ALL the right ingredients. Partnered with a beer, you can't go wrong!

I discovered Peaquod's while attending DePaul back in 2000, and I have been addicted ever since. While Peaquod's does have great thin crust pizza, the reason to go there is for their pan pizza with carmalized crust. What is carmalized crust you ask? Darkened cheese around the edge of the pizza, that gives the pizza a toatlly distinct flavor that tastes like it just came out of the oven. In addition, the mushrooms are a great appitizer. The price is right as you only need to order a small pan for 2 people (unless you are a super BIG eater). If you want truly awesome pizza with a totally distinct but awesome flavor, Peaquods is for you!\n\n

I know how to make my own pizza but I think that Pequod's makes the best pizza in Chicago. Before I use to go to the one in Morton Grove and I am happy that we have one in the City. I order the thin crust and it's out of this world.

I used to live in Bucktown and have left for SFO, and everytime I come to town to hang out with friends, I always take make sure that I come to Pequod's for their thin crust pizza it is as unique as a NY Thin Crust and I LOVE IT! I only wish that they can send these stuff frozen and flown to other states so I can enjoy them anytime I want to.

Peaquod's pizza is about as fresh as you can get. The thing that makes them stick out above the rest is that the thin crust pizza is just as good as the pan pizza. I love the fresh tomatoe and the caramalzed crust. I will admit that the carmalized crust is an aquired taste, but I have yet to meet someone who didn't like it after the first try. If you are dining in, it is a great place to watch a cubs game on a large screen. The service is pretty good, however they seem to get pushy when it is busy. The price is great cause I never walk away hungry (a small pizza is perfect for 2) This place gets my vote!

I was looking for good thin crust pizza for many years since my favorite, Charlotte's between Palatine and Barrington closed. It took many years to happen across this wonderful Charlotte's substitute. Very similar in taste and ambience. I love it. Took several grandchildren there after a visit to the zoo and we were treated like welcome royalty. the television was turned on to a channel they would enjoy so waiting for the pizza was easy. Most often I get a take-out pie which is always done when they say it will be done.

The thick pizza is the best I have ever had, and I was born and raised in Chicago. There is nothing better than carmelized cheese! (Note: a thick pizza will take about 45 minutes--soooo worth the wait) I get delivery from and dine-in at the city location and have never had a bad experience. A great place to eat at if seeing a movie--let the waitstaff know what time your movie is at and they will get you there in plenty of time.

My wife and I tried the deep dish pizza a few weeks ago after reading some good things about it. Let me start by saying that this pizza was so bland I had to salt it. Are you kidding me? I have NEVER had to salt a pizza before in my life. The sauce was nothing speacial, the cheese was virtually tasteless, and the sausage was so bland I thought it could have been unseasoned hamburger. I ended up salvaging my meal by scraping off the sausage and cheese and just eating the crust, which was the only part of the pizza that really had any flavor. I thought maybe it was a one time thing, but after seeing a few other reviewers who had the same opinions as me, I definitely won't even bother giving it a second chance.

Pros: Quick delivery

The last rater strikes me as one with little imagination and is easily frustrated by novelty. This is good pizza, I always order it delivered. I'm just curious to know what type of pizza does not have grease (cook cheese sometime and see what happens). He is right about the ambience though...cornmeal crust is not for everyone, nor is the carmelization...so, if you need your boring traditional way of eating pizza...move to Naperville or Joliet and eat at Pizza Hut.

Visiting Chicago and wanted the BEST Chicago-style pizza in town. Read the previous user reviews on Pequod's and was excited I had found it. Unfortunately, it was mediocre at best. Cornmeal crust was tasteless, grease pooled up on th pizza and plate, sausage was bland.... and the 'ambiance' was dark and dreary. Not impressed. I would prefer Pizza Hut over Pequod's.

Pros: Good Servers, Location

Cons: Pizza, Dark and dreary

.

Such a find! The sauce is spicey, the crust crunchy & all the ingrediants you can fit! It is a real pizza joint.

My friend took me here when I first moved to Chicago, and this pizza beats anything else in the city! I take all my out of town visitors here not only because it is great food, but it is a relaxed atmosphere and it is in a great location. Dinner and a movie was never so easy.

This is the best Pizza in Chicago far & away! The best blend of crust, cheese, and sauce. The sauce is the real kicker - with extra sauce, the pizza is almost euphoric. Good location, too - you can look around in the bookstore across the street while waiting for your order. I have traveled through rain, snow, hot, and cold weather, and have traveled miles out of my way, just for their pizza. If this is the only pizza place you sample in Chicago it'll be worth it.

Just moved into the neighborhood (Morton Grove).\nWe were urged to walk across the street & give it a try....WOW!!!!!...Deep dish is delicious, with burnt carmalized onion crust & the best sausage I've had on a pizza in years....Also, thin crust is super....Don't go for the ambience....there is none!\nJust a good old fashion grunge place with lots of atmosphere & great people......Beer & wine & a great ""Pequod's"" salad to start....Beef & Sausage sandwiches also. Great Family place!!!

My first trip to Peqoud was instigated by a girl I was dating. She knew I was a pizza fanatic and told me of this great pizza that I had to try. So we made the trip to MortonGrove and I couldn't believe what I saw as we pulledup. What a dump, the place looked aweful!! So we venture in and I'm seriously having doubts about this relationship with my date. But to my surprise it was the best 'Za I ever had. Great crust, sauce and simply the best sausage. The carmelized cheese was the best part! I since moved to Naperville and don't get The 'Quod often. GUYS, OPEN A PLACE IN NAPERVILLE ON THE RIVERWALK!!! It would be a huge hit! I have never taken someone there that didn't fall in love with it. And about that girl that introduced me to the 'Qoud............ I married her!

First time visitor at the Morton Grove location. A nice little neighborhood spot that was quite cozy. Outstanding pan style pizza! Best I've had in a while. The crust is unique and tasty the sauce is perfect, not too spicy or bland. No skimping on the ingredients. Took the family and it's the first time my kids ate the ends! Not one was left. Can't wait to go back!!\n

One of the best pizzas in Chicago. My only complaints concern the lack of accommodation for non-smokers. The ""non-smoking section"" is right next to the bar, and even if patrons are not smoking, the staff frequently light up. So, basically, there is no non-smoking section. Also, on one recent visit on a hot day, there was no air conditioning; instead, the front windows were opened. It was too hot to enjoy the meal.

Oh my...this is seriously, by far, the best Pizza in Chicago. While a tad off the beaten path of the typical Lincoln Park, etc. dwellers...unless youre starved after a good flick...this place is awesome. The decor inside of the restaurant is nothign fancy- but that's fine, the Pizza makes up for it in every way. So does the wonderful Pequod's Salad with the garlic dressing...wow! YUM! However I will say that this pizza (thick of course!) is best while dining in...don't get me wrong it's still good when delivered but to enjoy this Pizza to it's maximum potential, round up the pizza lovers and head into Pequods. You won't be disappointed.

If you have never tried Pequod's Pizza, you have been missing out. I have been eating at this Pequod's and also the one in Morton Grove since I was a freshman in high school (Nile West 1986) and have never had a bad dining experience at either. They stay open late and have a wide delivery area. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The no frills and uniquely decorated space make the dining experience both comfortable and affordable. I take all of my out of town friends and relative here and everyone always loves it. Give it a try, you won't be dissapointed.
