One of the better steakhouses in Chicago. Their menu is good overall and they have never failed with their service. Also a good place to stop and have lunch if you're in the River North area.

Freshest seafood around. Great sides. Key lime pie to die for! Fantastic fried chicken. Atmosphere a bit loud, but that is Joe's. Not exactly a romantic place, but a great place to go with a crowd.

Truly a world class steak and seafood restaurant. I went last night and had the fresh (never frozen) king crab legs that are in season. They were phenomenal. Paired with a starter of stone crab bisque I was in crabby heaven.

So my wife and I have eaten at the best of the best steak houses nationwide and still always agree Joe's in Chicago is where it's at. Now so you know I have eaten at other Joe's and none of them even compare to the quality of food Joe's Chicago offers. My personal recommendations would be the Chicago Stable, Bone In Rib-Eye, The Scallops, and of course the KING CRAB!!!!

If you are visiting Chicago or just never made it to Joe's change your dinner reservations and make them at Joe's ASAP.

--> This place is not easy to get into. Make reservations at least a week out!

Pros: The Food and Service is just AMAZING!!!

Cons: Valet service is so RUDE!!! Lost you a star, FYI!

.

This was an awful dining experience. The only good thing about it was they have the most tasty scallops and spinach! Valet was rude, Our waiter took 20 mins to come to the table to even take drink orders, some of the food came over burnt, the waiter was unwilling to accomodate our meal requests, etc an all around awful dining experience. We spoke to the manager, and he only offered free dessert, which we didn't want, and he took off one of the burnt dishes, and AWFUL mac & cheese from the bill. After the mgr wasn't apologetic for the awful service we'd had (it took 45 mins to even get our order in) we were left with having to dock the tip with a note as to why. We will NEVER be back here.

My boyfriend and I ate here over the holiday weekend and even though the prices were a little high, the food was amazing!! The waiter we had doted on us all night long and even though it was pretty crowded we didn't feel like we got lost in the crowd, as you do with some other restaurants.
This is a great place to go eat when you want to splurge on a meal but it is expensive for 2 when you have drinks and a full meal.
It is a MUST to try while in Chicago.

The food at Joe's was just ok, and definitely not worth the steep price tag. I went with my friend and we started with the shrimp and scallop ceviche. It was decent, although the fish didn't seem super fresh.

For entree, I had a 12 oz fillet, my friend had the stone crab. The steak was cooked well, but not well seasoned, and overall pretty boring. It arrive by itself on the plate, looking very lonely with only a piece of curly leaf parsley to keep it company. The stone crab did not taste fresh. The potatoes weren't bad.

The best part of meal was dessert, we shared banana cream pie, which was actually pretty good. But overall, this meal was not worth the $100 price tag.

Despite all the good reviews and the poasitive feedback. And although its a cute atmosphere... the food just didn't cut it. My dish was just okay.. and it left me still starving for food. Weird, right? Anyway, not going back. I shouldn't be hungry when leaving a restaurant

I've heard all the raves about Joe's, and decided to try it out when my parents came into town. First off, we were seated 45 minutes after our reservation time. It only went downhill from there. The waiter was extremely condescending, and kept touching us - it was really awkward. We ordered the 'famous' stone crab appetizer - and it was beyond disappointing. I've had my fair share of stone crab, and it is not supposed to turn into a frayed mess when you open the claw.

Then the entrees came. My Dad decided to treat himself with a $50 filet, which one would expect to be fantastic. He ordered it med-rare, and it came out med-well or maybe even well done. The waiter even cringed when he saw it, but decided to not say anything. The fisherman's platter did not even contain all the pieces it was supposed to. There was no cod (I did not realize this until after we left unfortunately).

There were several other VERY serious problems, but I will not devulge details in fears this post may be removed (I cannot prove the 'issues', although I am certain they are true).

I felt terrible that my Dad paid $250+ for this horrendous meal, so I contacted Management in hopes they would be sympathetic to my situation. I will simply say they were rude, and in my opinion handled everything extremely poorly.

Given Joe's reputation, I would assume my experience was an exception, but I would implore you to seriously consider dining somewhere else if you are looking to treat yourself to a high priced meal.

We ordered the stone crab appetizers (4 medium claws) and a caesar salad for sharing. Stone crabs have a amazing fresh and sweet taste that is wonderful, yet somewhat different than King or Snow crabs. We also, upon recommendation, ordered a wonderful glass of white wine to compliment our meals. After devouring the snow crabs, out came our entrees. Ooops, what about the caesar salad? Frankie promptly apologized and since our entrees had already arrived we were informed that dessert was on the house. Professional, seamless service. My wife raved about her teriyaki chicken. The chicken was moist, perfectly roasted chicken with just the right amount of from-scratch teriyaki sauce drizzled on the chicken at your table. I did try a bite and it was quite tasty. Fall off the bone tender, so moist and so good. The Alaskan King Crab Legs were massive and presented at the table (cracked for your convenience) before being served. Frankie had recommended that I request chilled rather than warm and he was correct. Chilled is the only way to go from now on. This Alaskan King Crab AMAZING. Large, succulent pieces of sweet chilled king crab meat served with a half lemon, drawn butter and house mustard on the side. But again, these bad boys need nothing as it would take away a piece of heaven from your tastebuds. These have to be the best crab legs in the city! The complimentary desserts were delicious. I would bet you will not find a piece of Key Lime Pie better than what is served at Joe's. The graham crust was perfect, the fresh keylime filling was heavenly. Sweet, with just a hint of tang, and so light and creamy. An explosion of flavor. My wife had a delicious chocolate brownie a la mode with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. Although very good, we both are hooked and now swear by Joe's Key Lime Pie. Joe's - Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Oh, and ask for Frankie as your personal guide through the experience called Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crabs.

We just had the "2nd mortgage" cold seafood appetizer and the crab bisque. The soup was very good. The appetizer was ok but I did not think it was that great. I'd heard a lot about the mustard sauce and it was ok but not spectacular. I would definitely recommend reservations as there was a minimum hour wait.
The staff was very nice but three seafood apps, one bowl of bisque and drink each was just not worth what we paid.

My wife and I visited Joe's recently. I had stone crab bisque, large stone crab and the banana dessert. My wife had select stone crab, coffee and key lime pie.

Stone Crab Bisque: OUT OF THIS WORLD!
I have had countless different bisques from many great places but this was the best by far.
Large/Select stone crab: Great
banana dessert : AWESOME!
Key Lime Pie: Quote from wife: "Oh my god the crust, The flavor of fresh key lime, it was so smooth. It was the best".
Coffee: You wouldn't think it but this coffee also made an impression. What ever kind that coffee was, it was F@#k!&g great.

Great food, great service.
You will go back, I promise you.

I went to Joes while in Chicago for a concert. I had the fried lobster and asparagus it was so great I want to fly back just to get some more I've had it other places but theirs was so great its worth a try I dont remeber what my friends had but it was good we all give it 5 stars the bill was around 140 for 3 people and only 1 alcohol drink and the others were pops so if you plan on drinking the price goes up but its worth a try if you love seafood. And the staff was so pleasing the waiter even helped me cut my food . I will probaly go to the one in Miami next.

I made a reservation for a Monday night. I showed up about 40 minutes early to have drinks in the bar (the front room/bar was extremely crowed). When I checked in, I was told that they didn't have my reservation. But the host assured me he would take care of me. So we had drinks in the bar (very good ones) and were seated at exactly our reservation time!! The waiter was wonderful, the shrimp appetizer was yummy. I got the tuna with a side of broccoli. The tuna was delicious!! The broccoli had a cheese topping which wasn't very cheesy tasting (too bad) but still good. The key lime pie was tasty. We love this place and keep coming back!!

Before i chose Joe's for our dining restaurant i have read and heard many positive and great reviews of this place so my expectations were high. We were seated in a timely manner, slightly after our reservation time b/c i have requested a different seating area and we had to wait an extra couple of minutes.(No big deal). Our server was Charles who was very polite, helpful and knowledgeable.

The appetizers and soups were great, we had the crab and artichoke gratin, shrimp de jonghe and stone crab bisque. For our main dish we had the chillean seabass, stone crabs and stuffed sole which were all heavenly and cooked to perfection. Charles our server was always there to answer any questions we had and made sure our needs were taken care of. Lastly our desserts were also excellent, overall we had a great time and experience.

For seafood and steak lovers this place is a must.Job Well Done!!!!!!!!

For those readers concerned by the review of delyco...I am the Managing Partner of Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab. I helped build the restaurant, train the staff and instill a culture of caring for the guest as a hallmark of how we do business. I received an e-mail describing this event from the reviewer and responded immediately, as did our Chef Partner and General Manager. We, unfortunately, never received a reply. As a restaurant operator, you do everything in your power to ensure that every guest who walks through your doors, leaves having had an experience which exceeds their expectations and gives them reason to recommend it confidently to others. There will be times, hopefully infrequently, when we fall short and that provides us with a greater opportunity to win our guest's patronage, by resolving the situation in a manner which demonstrates our sense of caring and committment to our guest's satisfaction. Unfortunately, this reviewer never gave us the chance to do either.

Very exclusive dining and a wonderful place for business dining. Top of the line service from the time you walk in the door to the time you leave. The seafood is out of this world and I thought we got the best in San Diego.

In Chicago for short biz trip w/ my wife, I wanted to find the best seafood restaurant downtown. Joe's Seafood exceeded my expectations. In short, the food was fantastic, the atmosphere was great, and the service was exceptional. One of the best dining experiences that I have had in a long time and I eat at nice places. The atmosphere is old-school chicago, with Frank Sinatra & Billie Holiday music playing. The bar is a little crowded, but they do a good job of seating you. The staff was extremely friendly.

On to the meal. The crab claws were good, not phenominally large, but good sized. The crab bisque was amazing, you have to get some. Our waiter, Tim, was very knowledgeable, honest, and provided exceptional service and made great suggestions. My wife had the seabass, and it was very tasty. I was recommended to try the Cod, which is a fish that I would not normally order. It was excellent and I would highly recommend that dish. It was very rich tasty, miso glazed, and melted in your mouth. The vegetable sides were good, but not great. We had the Banana cream pie for desert and it was very good.

Unforeseen challenge: some j@ck@ass bar customer decided to try to be funny and pull the fire alarm on the way out the door. The caused various fire extinguishers to go off inside the restaurant and they had to evacuate all the patrons. Fortunately it was close to closing time and most people were eating desert or done. The staff handled this challenge very well. The removed any items that were on your table at the time and either took them off your bill or provided you with fresh ones. They also were very open about the situation and really took care of use.

If you are looking for that old-school Chicago feel, amazing seafood, and great service, Joe's is the place to go.

My fiancee and I, from Ann Arbor, Michigan, decided at the last moment to spend New Year's Eve in Chicago. We decided to step out of our hotel an see if any good restaurants were nearby. We came across Joe's and thought we would see if we could get a table. Business was bustling, but my fiancee found what was apparently the hostess: an older woman with funky red hair and rhinestones in her eyeglasses. He asked if it was possible to get a table, and she snapped at him, "Not without a reservation!" My fiancee, a gentleman not used to being spoken to so brazenly, commented back to her, "There's no need to be rude about it, I just wanted to know if it was possible." Her defense was not apologetic at all: she said that she was not being rude, only stating a fact. I agreed with my fiancee's perception of her uncouth demeanor--she was seething with very intolerable attitude. Additionally, when we turned to leave, he was quite certain that he felt her intentionally elbow him toward the door (hard to prove in the crowd). You'd think she was a prison guard as her last gig!

Perhaps we were naive for trying for a seat on New Year's Eve without a reservation...but I don't think so, since we simply went a few doors down to the Captial Grille, which was also packed, but had an extremely courteous hostess who found us a seat in their state room in less than an hour. They had superb food, but without the pretentious service.

Read the Reviews and Joe's did not let us down! Went to Joe's to celebrate my Husband's bday. Seated promptly, Larry our waiter covered each menu item with a description- his knowledge of the menu was exceptional and he had great recommendations. We tried the full house appetizer and the stone crab bisque. Yum... that's all I have to say. We were so excited about our dinner after tasting the bisque and appetizers. I had the canadian lobster tails along with a baked potato and roasted corn. My husband ordered fish and he loved it! We also had Joe's Key lime pie for dessert- very good. Larry made our dining experience memorable, we never lacked for attentive service. Thank YOU Larry and Joe's. Everything was outstanding.

We moved to chicago a year ago from britain and decided to spend our 1yr wedding anniversary dining at Joes for the first time, after randomly selecting it from a number of restaurants to try.The Maitre d' was so unfriendly, had a face on like you were walking into a funeral, his overall behaviour was so unwelcoming. Good food but wouldn't go back there.First and last time.

The atmosphere was great and the food was even better. The menu was a bit pricey but you understand why once you taste the food. I would go back again in a heart beat.

Flew in from NYC for my friend's birthday solely to eat at Joe's...and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT.
Maggie was our server and did a GREAT job in helping steer us thru the extensive menu. The chocolate martini was to die for. Had the 2nd mortgage...and STONE CRABS for apps. Had the KING CRAB split TABELSIDE..and STEAK and LOBSTER...sides great too.

MAKE a RESERVATION...GO and ENJOY. This IS THE PLACE to IMPRESS or CELEBRATE!

DON'T MISS IT !!!

This is by far the best place to eat in Chicago!!! They have a wine list that is extensive and broad as well as a great bar. The menu can be pricy, but well-worth every penny. I would recommend the Bone-In Filet Mignon with a side of Lianaise Potatoes. I bring first dates, colleagues, out of town guests and family here, especially when I want to impress them. The atmosphere is done well with comfortable Oak paneling; very sophisticated.

Each time my family comes to Chicago I take them here (And they are all FANTASTIC cooks from the south).
Beautiful, cozy style. Superb, knowledgeable staff (especially with their extensive wine list). Food is always cooked to perfection!!
I have tried every fish, every crab leg, and lots of extras....WONDERFUL!!
Most of the waiters have worked their for years and will go to great lengths to make sure your meal is exactly what you want.
Make reservations in advance!!

This restaurant serve a really good food, almost all the food from their menu are excellent, making people willing to wait for a long line to eat in this place. They offer a wide and fine wine selections. The stone crab are always fresh, the steak are so tender and tasty. My favorite is to finish up with their banana cream pie as a dessert. Reservation is highly recommended if you do not want to wait for 2 hours. A must go restaurant if you're in Chicago.

My company visited Joe's a few weeks ago and we had the best meal we have ever experienced. From the great cocktails at the bar to the friendly door staff and finaly Jasper, our server, the entire experience was surreal. The best chocolate martini ever, according to my wife. We started with jumbo stone crab claws and king carb legs. They were very tender and almost sweet. The bigger, the better. Size does matter in this case. My boss got the medium size as his entree and he said that he should have ordered the jumbo because they tasted better and they were much easier to eat. We also had Alaskan king crab legs for the table. Our server said this was the best item on the menu, and we agree! They were so delicious, we ordered a total of 3 just for our appetizers!!! My wife and I spilt a bone-in filet and the Australian lobster tail. Oh my, oh my! Jasper sliced up the filet and tail so it was very easy for us to share, thats the way to go. The filet was the best steak I have ever eaten. I dont know where they find it, but we will definately be back for this again. The lobster was excellent, but pricey, well worth the money, however. My associates had a dover sole, more king crab, and jumbo stone crab as their entrees, and they all said that was the best meal they have ever eaten. Key lime pie, banana creme pie, and boston creme pie topped off our meal. They, too, were amazing. I understand they have drinks to match their desserts, but we were to full to enduldge further. Overall, the best restaurant I have ever been to, the best service, too. Jasper and his staff took controll of the evening and executed everything magically. We will definately return and my company will have their Christmas party there! Jasper...are you available around Christmas time? Thanks for the memories and keep up the good work, Joe's!

Joe's was recommended to me by a friend so my husband and I decided to try it out for our anniversary and it did not disappoint!! The service was excellent!! My husband had the sole and I had the filet-both were delicious!! They even gave us a special dessert because we mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary. Don't forget drinks. They make the best Key Lime Pie Martini (that's right, I said martini) in the land!!

THIS IS THE BEST... sure there are better steaks to be had in chicago, and maybe you'll find a better piece of fish, but there isn't any place that has better stone crabs.

Joe's puts it all together. The service is tops, ok its tough to get a reservation and you may have to wait, but the sides are to die for. Have the slaw or a chopped salad or the hash brown potattos.

All I can say is that Joe's gets everything right on.. from the bread to the wine to the steak to the fish to a desert so rich you need a second cup of coffee. Tell them its your wife's birthday
and they'll bring you a treat..

It aint cheap.. nor is it terribly fancy.. its just the best..

Although she lives a block away, my girlfriend & I save Joe's for once/year around my birthday, because it's such a great restaurant we want to make dining there a special event.

We usually begin with a drink in the bar before being seated, then start with a lobster bisque that's straight from heaven. From there, I always go with the Jumbo Stone Crab & Petite Filet, which is a combination to die for, while she varies between scrumptous salads or seafood dishes. Sides like Fried Sweet Potatos, Creamed Spinach, or Fried Asparagus are fantastic, and usually we can't get through two between both of us.

The Key Lime Pie is a perfect ending, and every year when we go, the waitstaff always recommends the perfect wine or beers to go with our meals. Without a doubt, the finest restaurant I've been to in Chicago.

This is by far our favorite restaurant in Chicago! The service, food and atmosphere here is top notch! It's a pricey meal, but SO worth it.

The bone-in filet, king crab claws, lobster bisque, and peanut butter pie are all amazing! They have great fish, steak, chicken--literally everything! The bread basket is great too!

Howie is the best server...so attentive and fun!

Start with the stone crabs, then the signature 16oz bone in filet, with sides of jennie's potatoes and creamed spinach, and finish with the key lime pie. I've been to all the big name chicago steakhouses, this by far was the best!

Even when dining midweek, you will be rewarded with immediate seating by making reservation in advance.
Not a budget buy...but not bad for a nice dinner. For a budget buy seafood place I still think Shaw's is tough to beat for the price...but the food at Joe's was better quality and better prepared than I've had at Shaw's...although the poor service from both Joe's and Shaw's (Chicago) are on par with each other.

If you want some decent seafood and beef...I would recommend Joe's. We had a great time and good food. But if your looking for some fine cuisine, I'd look elsewhere. I'm so glad I went...we did have a good meal. But it wasn't good enough where I'll be going back any time soon. There are too many other places I'd rather try.

Happy eating!

I have dined at Joe'a many times, but this time I was highly dissapointed. The waiter had an attitude. The food quality was excellent, but the stone crabs were small and the Madagascar shrimps at $13.95 ea. (overpriced).. The irritation culminated when paying for it with a combination of gift certificates and a Visa debit card. The waiter mischarged the entire amount to my Visa card (around $443) then recharged my card the correct amount of $218, but without even telling me. This error created havoc on my account. When I called the manager the next day, they said sorry, but mistakes do happen. What a poor response to my dissatisfaction. They could have at least invited me back for a drink on the house or something. Anyway, I would still go back, but I would not assume that this restaurant is perfect anymore, just because you're paying that price.

Joe's was our place to celebrate our 21st anniversary on September 11th. The dining experience was 2nd to none. The crab claws were magnificent!!! The signature bone-in ribeye was cooked and seasoned to perfection. To top off our evening our waiter OZ made us feel like royalty, he is the MAN!! We are returning to Joe's tomorrow September 10, 2005 to celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary. We hope OZ is still there and we can get him again.

Stopped at Joes because my friend had gone there about a year ago and had enjoyed her experience. The meal was one of the best I have ever had, along with great service and a warm atmosphere. I had the crab stuffed sole with lobster sauce and was impressed by not only the great taste but how the portions were perfect--not huge and not too small. After informing the very knowledgeable and helpful waitress that we came because one of us had been there before, she brought out free dessert for all 4 of us as a surprise for coming back! It was fabulous and delicious. A great place to eat after walking on Michigan Avenue all day.

Joe's is a wonderful place. We eat lunch there on Saturdays and we have never been disappointed. The food is wonderful, the service is outstanding, and the ambiance is a throw back to the "Rat Pack" era. This is our favorite restaurant. Joe's does an excellent job of mixing casual with elegant. You almost feel as if you are stepping into an old movie when you walk through the doors.

We were just looking to eat at a place where the gift certificate would take us. Who would have known that we would have one of the best meals ever with the best service ever. We did not make reservations and ended up in the lounge. Even that was comfortable and the menu selection was the same. Can't wait to go back when they are expecting us.

Went to this restaurant on several occassions and was never disappointed. I've been to several seafood restaurants in Chicago and this by far is the best. Both steak and seafood are great. Crab legs are fully cracked and ready to eat. Amount and quality of food for the price is great. Wonderful wait staff - always willing to accommodate and recommend.

We dined at Joe's on Sunday, October 26. It was our fourth visit over the past year. The food and ambiance are still exceptional but we found that the maitre d' was seating his friends ahead of our party and was not using discretion or tact in letting others know this. Joe's should make more of an effort to honor the times of reservations. I think some fresh faces in the front of the restaurant would be a welcome change. The stone crabs were great! Drinks could not be better!
