I have been a customer for over five years and I have NEVER been disappointed with their service. The mechanics do excellent work, everyone is professional and super friendly and the prices aren't bad at all! M&R goes above and beyond to make sure your car receives the best repair service (they even check my oil, tires and fluids for me which I really appreciate!) I highly rececommend their business.

I recently moved to Chicago and was in search for qualified service station. I was in luck because I found a business card on my car, Mini Cooper S. Honestly i was a bit hesitant given this company reviews. But i gave them a shot and they sure didn't disappoint! If your seeking an honest dependable repair facility with great customer service, I highly recommend this shop. Their labor rate was better by 25% from any local dealership. My vehicle was clean, properly repaired & they even took my car to the State Smog Test for me. I also noticed that they inspected all my tires pressure, & even refilled my extra washer fluid container in my trunk. Every detail counts, at least for me. It was a pleasure doing business with this independent shop. Needless to say I have and will continue to recommend friends to M&R.

These guys left an adhesive-backed card on my driver window to advertise, and it wouldn't come off. I'll have to spend 30 minutes going over a good part of the window with a razor blade just to get the garbage removed. If I'm lucky I

I bought my first car in 1991--a Toyota Celica convertible. M&R was recommended by a friend and they are the only mechanics I trust my car with. The car is in great shape after almost 20 years thanks to their work.. Trust your car to M&R.

I love this place!
I brought my Scion in with a loud muffler. I was sure it was the rear muffler cause a gas station in the area said so. M&R quoted me a very good price for the muffler ..so I brought it in they called me and said it's not the rear muffler but a connector to the muffler. So they fixed the problem and charged very little. Through this I got to know some of the employees who are a part of the family that ownes M&R I would much rather give my money to a locally owned family shop that charges far less an hr. then the dealers I used to go to.
Thanks M&R! I'll be back!

I brought my Scion in with what I thought was a loud muffler. I was convinced cause I had taken the car to a gas station that put it up on the rack and said it was.... after doing a leak test. So I decided to try M&R because they are in the neighborhood and I did not want to go back to the dealer because every time I have done that I go through price shock after they have done any work. I talked to them about what I needed ... they priced out the muffler and with install seemed very fair. So I walk home and they call and I'm thinking "here comes the real cost". They said that it was just a connector and not the muffler. The repair was done for very little money ...
and they were super nice. Thanks M&R ...I will be back!

I worked for M&R for about 6 months, during that time they never were even able to get me an actual uniform to wear. I had to wear my own clothes from home. As soon as i started I was informed (by my roommate who also worked for them) that the building had recently been broken into and that many techs tools had been stolen and tool box's heavily vandalized. After I served my time there I left and discovered that they never did organize the insurance information to reimburse the two techs for their tools and tool boxes. This is just a breif look from the inside. They also do everything they can to scour any extra pennies the customer may have by issuing unneeded work....... One example before i leave... A Porsche came in the door one day for an hood that was "hard to open". I personally took a look at it and it had opened just fine the first, second, and third time. I then informed Mike Jr. that the issue was "not duplicatable". He said "Okay, mark down 2 hours diagnostic on the Repair Order". I rolled my eyes but did anyway cuz they were writing my check at the time. I later got a peek at the invoice and saw that they had charged 2 hours diagnostic, 1.5 hours labor, and $ for parts on a new hood latch that had never been installed......

I have to say that honestly all of these reviews that I have read about this place truely scared me. I have been looking for a shop to service my BMW for over a year and a half now, due to the fact that the dealership became too expensive and quite a bit inconvienient for me. I googled shops around the 60614 zip code and found this business. Upon reading these reviews I will admit that I thought that maybe these guys were a bunch of scam artists that ripped people off at every chance they got. The analogy to them having one hand on your shoulder and the other in your pocket gave me a strong image that truly made me think twice about taking my vehicle to this shop. The risk taker in me decided to give them a shot. They are 10 minutes away from my home, a small shop so i assumed that there had to be something good about them. Upon walking in the front door I was taken aback.......

I was greeted by the service advisor, Patty i believe her name is. She greeted me politely and promplty wrote up my concerns and my vehicle's information. It took her a little bit longer then the dealership would have taken, but nonetheless the experience felt more personal. She got me to sign off on 2 hours of labor to diagnose my vehicle, which i thought at first was a little bit excessive, but well my Bimmer had issues and we needed to get to the bottom of it. Little did i know, that the 2 hours i had authorized really were not as much as I thought, because the amount of work that they put into diagnosing my issues was way greater. They took pictures of every issue, even taking a shot of a bulb socket that was melted. They were very specific in everyone of their findings and even provided me with a Hertz rental car. They said that they would only cover one day, but ended up covering 3 because of a special order part that was needed. Mike Sr. was even kind enough to give me 3 free oil changes for future visits, which made me feel great after spending $2,500. No other place would have done this for their first time customer.

So i just wanted to tak a second to say that on this website a few of these reviews can be decieving. Most of the people who write these reviews have had bad experiences, but they need not spoil it for everyone else. Had i have listened to the people on this website i would have missed out on developing a great relationship with a good bunch of people. My hats off to Patty, Mike Sr., and the whole gang!

Pros: Staff, pictures, loaner vehicles

Cons: no parking on street

This family reminds me of folks who pat you on the back with one hand while the other hand is firmly entrenched in your pocket. When you enter they see a dollar sign. They charge for an estimate, overcharge for labor, and add 50% to the cost of parts. The mechanics are inexperienced and do not speak English so you'll never talk to the man who actually worked on your car. Who you will talk to is Mike Jr., a duplicitas character who has been caught more than once joy riding in customer cars. His specialty is selling future repairs not needed. In this place of universal deceit the truth is a revolutionary act! I also have it on inside information they write some of their own reviews. Steer clear of this shop and don't let them rip you off! It's a safe bet you can get your vehicle repaired better and cheaper anywhere in or around the Chicago area.

In a business full of "scam artists" I can honestly say that beyond a shadow of a doubt that this place is one of the most professional places that I have ever been. I used to take my Chevy to the dealership for any repairs that it needed, the downside, the closest dealership to me was in Des Plaines. Rather then taking a 40 minute car ride I decided to take my vehicle to M & R Car Imports, since they are 2 minutes away from my house. My first experience at this shop was a memorable one. As I pulled into the driveway I was instantly greeted by Mike Sr., whom opened my hood and promptly checked my fluid levels. He directed me to go see Patty to write up my repair order. Talking with Patty was amazing. She is very polite, knowledgeable, and helpful. She got me into a rental car with Hertz, and even paid a days worth of rental for me when I authorized the repairs, something my dealership never did. After the repairs were done, I was shown pictures of what was needed and they were very accurate and pointed out the oil leak that I had, yet another aspect that the dealer never covered with me. Their service was top notch to say the least. I would recommend M & R Car Imports to anyone who has a vehicle that needs fixing. These guys rock!!!

SCAM ARTISTS~~~~!!!!!This place is a total scam! Avoid at all costs. Mike Jr is a total A-hole, and quoted a cost half of what they charged! Claimed to have pictures of what they fixed but they didn't. Broke the windshield, installed a broke a$$ one that was distorted, and then didn't want to fix the windshield they broke, then to top it off, the original problem they claimed to have fixed is still an issue. It was a simple fix I thought, and didn't even have to do with the engine.

STAY AWAY from these scam artists, they are rude on the phone, mess up your car, and claim to be part of the Rated Mechanics, or the better BB . I should have done my research on these guys, but thought the problem could be a quick fix. WRONG, this has turned into a disaster. Now that I am asking for a refund for the work done, or should I say that wasn't done correctly, you guessed it, they won't return phone calls, and want the car brought back in. Why so they can urinate on the floor boards and sabotage the rest of the car.

WHATEVER YOU DO STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!

I just wanted to share with others that are used to going to the dealers to have their cars fixed . I use to take my BMW only to the dealer and I'm no longer doing so. Although at first I was a spectacle because I found M & R Car Imports by a business card that was left on my vehicle -so I decided to use them.
I had a problem with my vehicle and needed to get it towed and I didn't have a motor club membership to help me out so I called M & R Car Imports Service and they mentioned to me that they do not having a towing truck or service - but they do have two towing companies that take care of their customers and bring the vehicles to their facility. Once my vehicle gets there they would inspect it for a charge of $94.72 and call me with their diagnosis. I think that's fair considering there's always an initial charge at the dealer of $155.00 Once I arrived I couldn't believe I wasn't rushed through the write up process and they listen....without being concentrated on moving my vehicle out of the way or the long line behind me and anxious to write up the next customer which was my experience at the dealer. They also asked me if I needed a rental vehicle because they have worked with Hertz rental just down the street from where M & R Imports Is located, which they offer to pick up M&R customers not only that but Hertz Rental rates are very low-Wow I was impressed. Anyways I felt comfortable to know all these options were offered to me.
As it turned out my alternator failed I had it replaced (the extended warranty authorized it and paid M&R directly and I paid my deductible of $100.00 )and while my vehicle was in the shop they inspected my vehicle and found my brakes were low but NOT needed at this time they mentioned to me to wait until the oil change was due which was about another 3 months. I sure appreciate them being honest-not to mention with the economy being so bad right now.

Pros: Great Customer Service

In this day and age rarely do I experience the quality of customer service and satisfaction that I have with this long established family owned business. They are old school in their treatment of customers, and are educated in the latest and most up to date applications.

I had to have my car towed here. I had no choice because it is the closest place to my apartment. They told me the starter needed to be replaced. He told me it was the starter because he popped the clutch as it was being rolled off the truck and it started (I told him it would have been nice to have this suggestion before I paid $100 to have the car towed three blocks, I could have push started my VW cabrio!). I picked up the car with a new starter and drove it around for about 20 minutes. The car then died... completely died. I coasted into a parking place in the west loop and called them. I had picked up that car about an hour earlier. I told them what happened and they said they would come and rescue me in about 20 minutes. 30 minutes later I called them because I was able to get the car started. I made it around the corner and the car died again. 20 minutes later they came out and put a new battery in the car. Apparently the Alternator went out (semingly a rare occurance for these two things to happen two days apart). They were able to put the alternator in quickly and they even did a basic diagnositc on th car (for free? - but the two trips together cost $1300-which included a $97 road side rescue fee). I also had a gaping hole in the muffler which they did not mention in the $96 inspection. They also told me I needed my break lines flushed (something that was done 6 months earlier). To make matters worse, when I went to a cheaper shop to have the muffler done they had forgotten or put on or tighten some nut on my alternator which made the car refuse to start (stranded for a second time after I had the car at this shop and $1300 worth of repairs). I have dropped the car off for the alternator to be replaced again - of course at no charge. Apparently this loose bolt caused some arching and permanent damage to the brand new alternator. I'm thinking the repairs should have been higher quality for such a high price!

I would not recommend this place ever again i took my car there to get some engine problems fixed and it seems it took longer than I expected, I called the maneger Mike Jr to hear updates on my car but he would not respond to my calls nor reply. i then get a call 3 and a half weeks later saying my car should be done withing the next few days. I then go pick up my vehicle and he shows me some photos of the car, he then shows me the bill saying it was 2,880 dollars for the fixtures i asked did u put in a new engine he said no just repaired alot of things that were wrong. I think this place is full of Scammers and i wrote done my mileage on my odometer and seen that it was ran about 200 miles more than it should have ran at all. My guess is that they take customers vehicle home and joy ride with them because during the 3 weeks i would walk by the neigborhood to see if my car was either fixed or being worked on and i would hardly see neither. So BEWARE too all other Chicago people these people will rip you off and probably drive your car more than it should be driven.

Pros: Thumbs Down

Cons: Parking, Small Shop, Price, Service

I took my Bmw to this service facility after having a horrible experience @ my local Bmw Dealership where they mentioned i need major engine work for a $ 6,000.00 But after my Co-worker highly recommended that i give this Import specialist in Lincoln Park a shot of reviving my Bmw after it had a cooling system overheat. I call them and after talking with them on the phone (15min. ) I got the impression that they were very detailed oriented ! not to mentioned honest unbiased advise and realistic options. So after they gave me a second opinion they were able to fix my vehicle for $1,100.00 and it did NOT need major engine work! These guys are very thorough which was very impressive ! Not to mentioned the images they sent me electronically before i gave them my decision to go forward. So needless to say I recommend them to everyone! I really enjoyed the personal service.

I dont know how many times I called to get an update on my car.....without exaggerating, more than 9 before someone finally called me back. These calls were spaced over an 8 day period as well. Lackadaisical, not helpful, and unprofessional. I dont see why its so hard to pickup a phone, dial the number, and tell me whats wrong and how much it costs. Then the cost estimate came in significantly higher then elsewhere. It was like pulling teeth to get a hold of these guys.

i have taken my car here periodically for 2 years. seemed fine for oil changes and minor work. recently i tried to have work done and was very disappointed. i did not receive one call from m&r on updates on service, time to repair, etc. - forcing me to get my car repaired at another shop. i am not sure if they are short on staff, overly busy, etc - but if you are looking for a timely repair you may want to check out a different shop

I have gone to this place twice once to repair something that was suppose to be fixed by another shop. They fixed it but I think they replaced a part that did not need to be replaced. Just a $100 difference, I didn't mine. The second time my Saab had a clutch problem while visting the parents out of town. I took it to a dealer and they said it was the master cylinder but the wait was to long for me. I took it to M&R and they wanted to replace the whole clutch and fly wheel. A $600 difference. Watch out for the $70 inspection fee. I think $35 is a fair fee.

Pros: Called when they said, Repair Quality is goo

Cons: No parking, Over priced, High inspection fee
