Oakton Community College trains volunteers to teach ESL. Practice makes perfect. Try it. It is a good way to meet your American Neighbors.

You don't have to be a permanent resident. F1's, J1's and Tourists can take free classes. The other good thing is that taking one of the conversation classes will give you the opportunity to meet students from many other countries.

I have been attending Oakton for the past 4 yrears or so and i truly love this school. Both campuses are gorgeous. All the staff is freindly and extremely helpful. I am trying to get into the Oakton Nursing Program. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about this program!!! I have taken everything from math and bio to anthropology and world religions and i havent had a bad experience yet!!!

I took a few summer classes here. This is a good place to get some credits. They offer a wide range of classes. And the class timings are very convenient too; they have weekend, night, online, and television courses. The quality of the education is very good for a community college. And best of all it is very inexpensive. But remember, you have to reside in the district to get the discount!

Oakton Community College is a great place for kids who aren't decided on what they want to major in. Its small class sizes encourage kids to not feel overwhelmed in the college environment. And its a whole lot cheaper than a regular University

I took a few classes over the summer here before. I took psych course and biology course just last summer and the professors were great! They really knew what they were doing. I found it really cheap compared to other schools. Also, the classes were great and they had some great timings.

This is a good place if you are in college and want to knock off some credit. The classes are fairly easy and the people in them are cool for the most part. IF you aren't sure about college and want to stick around, this can also be a good choice of a school to go to. Personally i would rather go to a regular university but if you can't afford it Oakton is also very cheap if you live at home.

I took about 20 credits - mostly science classes. Loved the bio class, the anatomy lab though needs some improvement... The school is great overall. I do miss the friends made during the classes there...

PROS: good school, good programs, well seen by the community
CONS: some foreign teachers are very hard to understand what they are saying

My experiences at Oakton are beyond compare. I can really say that if you start at Oakton, you can go anywhere. The teachers hired are fantastic - they really care about their students if you prove you are willing to put an effort into it. Overall the price is worth it considering the similar experience at a four year college. They have a fantastic range of student organizations and plenty of other activities to keep you interested. The DP campus is gorgeous and huge. I personally preferred the smaller skokie campus but overall the experiences at both were wonderful. The cafeteria at DP tends to be better. Getting to Skokie and DP is achieved on the Pace/CTA. I would be a little wary of the administators though. Some are just out to make life hell. Make sure you have all your i's dotted and t's crossed as stupid paperwork messups can be quite irritating. After graduating with High Honors from this school, I got a great scholarship to LUC. Definitely recommend this school......facilities are fantastic, people are great - just an overall positive experience!

PROS: Good teachers, Excellent facilities, parking, theater, class choices
CONS: Sticky admin
