Calypso Cafe

I always enjoy my eating experience at Calypso--good food, good drinks at a reasonable price--who can beat that? There pulled BBQ chicken sandwich is the best--the chicken is tender, the sauce is very good, and the bread (which is the best part) is soft and warm with a little bit of sweetness to balance out the spice of the sauce. They also serve a plantain nachos dish (w/or w/out chicken) that can feed at least four people and is the star on the appetizer menu! Calypso, although a little hidden in Harper's Court, is a great restaurant-- I recommend it for all!

Calypso provides pretty good food at a pretty reasonable price. The decor in the restaurant is a little strange (bright yellow!) but aside from that, I enjoy the food. The service is very hit or miss but most of the waitstaff is friendly.

Calypso Cafe offers a wonderful menu selection under a spectacular ambience. With friendly and efficient wait staff and an outstanding chef in the kitchen, Calypso Cafe is a must visit restaurant anytime you find yourself in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood.

PROS: Excellent Talapia and Original Island Menu Items
CONS: Mild Jerk Chicken and Average Sides

Calypso has the best food in town, they mostly specialize in jerk chicken. The only downfall is it's almost hidden, hard to find. But you are able to get fish jerk style too. All of they're food is great.
