.

We had used another vet for 20+ years but switched to Sportsvet (Dr. Steve Jacobs), Savoy, after our Shih-tzu suffered a herniated disc in his back and underwent emergency surgery at the UI Animal Hospital. We took our dog to Sportsvet for several weeks of underwater treadmill therapy after he was released from the hospital. We were very pleased with Dr. Jacobs, his staff and the care they provided for our dog, who made an amazing recovery (the surgeon only gave him a 30-50% chance of being able to walk again before doing the surgery). We've since begun taking our other pets to Sportsvet and highly recommend Dr. Jacobs as a general veterinarian, whether or not your pets need physical therapy. Incidentally, he's a formal physical therapist for HUMANS who recently graduated from the UI's veterinary school and is a big proponent of giving physical therapy to animals to facilitate recovery from injuries and disease.
