Absolutely one of the worst experiences ever. Stopped there in May of 2012 to purchase a simple piece of track lighting and a round light fixture. Not in stock of course- have to be ordered, but will be here within 10-14 days. Paid for the order up front to make life easier.... Had to call them 30 days later to be told "track is here- bulbs are not- fixture is not- but we'll call you back as soon as we call the vendor today". No call back. 10 days later I remember and call again. Oh it's coming this week- sorry for the delay. Fast forward 5 MONTHS to the end of September 2012. I walked in today- asked to see the owner. Advised him that I had been neglected, lied to, and generally treated horribly. I asked for my money back and he started with the: "Well.... I can't refund the parts that are already here...." before I cut him off. I explained that:

A) I too am a business owner in Buffalo Grove.
B) I did not care to hear about this re-stocking issues and charges.
C) I have been lied to repeatedly for a simple light fixture.
D) I am familiar with many members of the BG chamber of commerce
E) He could either refund the FULL amount of the purchase or plan on hearing almost immediately from counsel.

I got my money back but these folks are scam artists through and through. DO NOT patronize this business. Soon- this commercial space will be empty- just as the one in Morton Grove is empty- and ffor very good reasons. HORRIBLE business people- how do they manage to keep the doors open? Margins must be excellent.... what a joke of a store.

Spoke with owner. Ordered product, never received, never contacted by store. Called once a week for 10 weeks. Never received a phone call back. Felt lied to on multiple occasions. Do not trust policies, or for anything to be ordered. This is the general consensus throughout the neighborhood. Even the owner does not return phone calls.

Finally had to dispute charges on credit card for services never received.

In mid-November my mother purchased two special order ceiling fans from Steve the owner. We waited and waited for them to be delivered. My mother went into the hospital and then rehap end of Jan thru this past Monday. Still no fans from Jacobson. I called Steve several times and he told me they had some deliveries but not the one from our order. This went on for a couple of weeks until I called the mfg myself. They told me that they had plenty of the fans that we were looking for but that the shipment had been held up to Jacobson. The customer rep told me until the billing department at Jacobson spoke to their billing department, nothing would be shipped. So he lied to me. I went in to the store and again he lied about the status of the order. I told him that I wanted a credit for the two fans that we never got as it had been 3 months now. He said he would and put the credit in. # weeks later and the credit card company has no record of the credit he was issuing. This is the owner of the company doing all of this. I wish you all better luck than what we were having. Today my mother has returned home laying on her Hospice hospital bed in her room, looking up at a ceiling without a ceiling fan or light. Thank you Steve.

What a great job done by Steve and his team with my installation and lighting choice. Steve, the owner by the way, help me pick out just the right light that I needed for a wet area. They also helped me run a new electric line on the second floor by carefully navigating their way in my attic. No one fell through the ceiling and nothing was damaged. The installer, Neil, cleaned up each area as he worked. I highly recommend the company.

I had already been in about 4 or 5 lighting stores before shopping at Jacobson's in Wheeling today. I just happened to look at the reviews from this store and was very surprised to read the negative comments about Steve written by Rich.

I had just the opposite experience from him today! He was helpful, yet not pushy. (The last store before this one, the woman followed me constantly and kept looking up stuff in the catalog even though I didn't want her to because I wasn't really all that interested.) Anyway... the other workers there (3 ladies) were friendly, too. I hope my pendants come in without any hassle. They said it will take 4 weeks & I was hoping to hear more like 2 weeks, but I guess it's worth the wait!

My experience with Jacobson Electric was wonderful. My sales person was very helpful in picking out my fixtures with me. I waited 4 to 6 weeks like they explained to me. My fixtures came in and their electrician called right away and came and put them up. The lighting wa beautiful. I would recommend Jacobson to anyone!!!!

If I could have returned my special order I would have. There was NO follow up to my order placed in March 2010. When I called to check on the light fixture order - the customer service person would not even call or check - told me straight up she would NOT call & check on it until the order is 1 month old. WHAT?! She also stated that the supplier / mfg. does not like to - will not take calls until the order is in for a month. WHAT?! I seriously did not believe what I was being told. When my order hit 30 days I placed yet another call & told them I would cancel the order unless I had a delivery date. Surprise, surprise - I had a call back within a couple hours stating the light was to ship within a couple days. Bottom line is - shop around & avoid this black hole called "Jacobson Electric" if you possibly can. You'll be better off & much happier if you do. I also would give them a "ZERO - NO STARS" if I could.

What could have been a good transaction turned sour very quickly (or should I say VERY slowly, based on how long it took us to get our merchandise). Long story short, we bought two beautiful ceiling fans back in August 2009. They were defective so we brought them back. (Even their store electrician could not get them working.) They said they would replace them. Two weeks pass and nothing. Three weeks pass and nothing. Four weeks pass. Finally, my mother in law made a last ditch attempt to see where they could be. Lo and behold, when we tell them we want to return the fans for a refund, they magically appear in the stock room! After that left a bad taste in our mouths, we wanted to return them and be done with it. Jacobsen, the owner, refused to give us a refund on merchandise we had not even opened and that we had just received one hour prior. Policy states that a full refund will be given only within 5 days. Jacobsen's reasoning was that since we originally purchased our defective fans back in August, that policy did not apply to us. Question: how do you return something you do not even have yet? Crooks. I wanted to like them. But their customer service, especially Jacobsen, was terrible. No respect and very unwilling to help. Be very aware from buying from them, especially the return policy they do not uphold. If I could give them zero stars, I would.

After over a year of online shopping and looking at the Big Box stores, I finally found the chandelier I had been looking for, along with two much needed fans for our bedrooms - plain, but with a light in the middle that did not look 1980's country!!! They said 4-6 weeks for a special order - no problem. And they arrived in 3 weeks! The best is all were 50% off during a 1/2 yearly sale. What I spent on a chandelier and two fans was just a bit over the budget I had for the chandelier alone. If you are looking for some really nice lighting and great service, go to Jacobson's.

They have some very beautiful chandelier's in this store, it just sparkles on the outside like you would not believe. The store has a large variety to choose from and they had several lamps that I absolutely loved, but there was no way that I could afford to buy them, they are a bit pricey. But if you have the money and are looking for new lighting, check them out, they have some really unique pieces.
