Car: 2001 Subaru Outback 2.5.
Auto repair shop: Sparks Tune up
Mechanic's name: Eddie.
Manager's name: Leo.

I've stopped by for an oil change today (11/22/10). After about 20 minutes they took my car in. About 10 min later the mechanic asked me to take a look at the oil pan - he said it has a crack on it. I saw that oil is comming out badly (1-1.5 dops per second). He said "I won't change your oil because it's worthless - you need a new oil pan". Although he did change the filter already! (I assume he needed to drain oil for that beforehand?!)
Once the car was on a lift there became a huge puddle of oil underneath. But there was no such a thing before that, neither on my driveway nor at the place I parked my car to wait before they took it it. I did have some leakage and I knew about it. I even asked them before they took the car in - please take a look where it can possibly go from. But not to an extend that in 2-3 hours my whole engine is dry!!
I said to the manager - I will stop by later, just give me the estimate. He printed me his estimate for $365. He did not give me any receits for the job done, nor did he charge me for that oil filter!!
I went after that immediately to the mechanic who I know and trust. After he lifted the car up he saw a hole next to the oil pane drain - a square shaped hole, right next to the drain plug!! He said the only possibility it could happen was with a wrench - that guy was trying to unscrew the plug, noth with a socket but with a wrench and the wrench must have come off and hit the oil pan! The hole was clear, with no rust or dirt whatsoever, square shaped, as from a wrench. And oil leaked very badly.
My mechanic drained all the oil and put a temporary plug - a screw - in that hole, however this does not help at all. Three hours later - I already have a huge oil puddle under my car on the street! I believe tomorrow morning I will find my engine with no oil at all! This means I cannot drive my car at all!
That things done I came back to the Sparks. I talked to the manager and to the mechanic guy and explained them the situation. I said that this is a HOLE and it was made TODAY and only AFTER I entered their shop. They did not pay attention to what I said and told me that I am trying to fix my problems at their costs!! The fact that there was NO OIL LEAKAGE before I entered the shop they simply ignored. I repeated them - look even at the place my car was staying for 20 minutes - it's just dry!! But neither the mechanic nor the manager did not care.
After all I would need to:
1. Repair the car . Subaru is a tough car to work on engine because of its kind, that means I will have to spend a lot on labor. Plus the parts available from the dealer are expensive as well.
2. I will loose couple of working days. I will not be able to drive the car unless I put a gallon of oil every 2 hours or so and leave huge oil pools anywhere I go.
3. I know I should have called the police and file a claim on site but I did not. These guys were so nice, trying to get rid of me, that they even gave me an estimate repair costs and cut it down for me. They also did not charge me for an oil filter!
I tried to talk to them - I said I know, things happen and sometimes it's not a neglegence but just a coincidence! But I do not want to pay for somebody's bad work out of my pocket!
Today I filed a claim to Better Business Bureu.

I went to Sparks when they were in CT. They are honest. They were very helpful and correct about my car problems. They fixed it once I starting getting the same problem again. Found out it wasnt from they're work. But from somewhere else. I love SPARKS. They are HONEST

Well done. My car would not pass the EPA test and two shops could not get it right. Sparks fixed the first time and I passed the test. I highly recommend this facility.

I had gone to a dealership to see how much it would cost to get new bulbs for my dash area and the dealership was charging me $200 but on including labor. I went to Sparks and didn't even charge me half the price and got the job done well. I was pleased with the service and Dan who was helpful and reasonable.

I called Spark's Tune Up to ask how much they would charge for a general Tune up.
I spoke with someone named "Dan". Very, very rude person!!! Horrible customer service and he was very pushy and arrogant!!!!!! I told him that I needed a tune-up for my car (gave him make, model etc. and EXACTLY which parts I needed as I do have knowledge about cars).
He gave me a price of $575 !!!
I said "thank you, but that is totally out of line, and I hung up."
I then called my friend who is a mechanic (but in a different state) and he told me that the parts alone should come to a maximum of $75 plus about $100 for labor. I called some other places and their price was in the $175 range- just as my mechanic friend told me!!

SPARK'S TUNE-UP is nothing but a RIP-OFF !! Extremely rude customer service and ridiculously OUTRAGEOUS prices!!!! Wouldn't be surprised if they were to go out of business soon if they continue running their "business" in such a poor manner.
Trust me - save yourself some time and energy -
DON'T GO TO SPARK'S TUNE-UP !!

Sparks was recommended to me over 10 years ago and I have found Mark to be up front, honest and competitive. I've recently had a tune up and brake work and the car left running well.

Horrible experience. I was overcharged for work I didnt need. When I took the car to another mechanic, I was told the job was done incorrectly. Rude owner and unexperienced.

My family has been going there for over five years and we have had nothing but the best of service. He'll tell you what needs to be fixed that moment and what can wait if you can't afford it all at once. The owner is a very friendly person and very understanding.

If you are looking for a mechanic you can trust, I would not recommend this business. My vehicle was returned with more problems than it came in with.

I have used this service for more than 15 years. My family has used it for even longer. We have always received excellent service, timely repairs, and an honest assessment of what was needed. I would recomend them to anyone.

The people who work here can not be trusted. They ripped me off. They told me I needed all new front brakes on my car. I had a whole mew front brakes system put on. Then they came up with a few other things, including all new rear brakes. I took it somewhere else and found out I only needed my rear brakes ajusted. I still had 60% of my brakes left. I have never been back since.
