Please run from this dentist. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD. It is all about the money here. If you read other reviews you will see the procedures they perform are often questionable or determined to be unnecessary by other doctors/dentists. We are going to the attorney general with our complaints. Read reviews on Yelp and elsewhere. Put it out on Facebook. We got over 90 negative responses from people who had the misfortune of going to this practice after we put it out on Facebook. There is a definitely a pattern of something wrong going on at this office. Hopefully one day they will be shut down.

A shady practice at best!

Do not give them your charge card #, they will use it without your permisssion, even though you have checked to call you prior to using! And on top of that, they will offer you flouride treatment knowing full well that your insurance will not cover it after the age of 19. Dr. Dano was not available to us to discuss either problem.

The office manager is the most unprofessional woman I have ever dealt with. She told me in no uncertain terms to go elsewhere even though I was willing to spend $6200 on my daughters braces. She then said I was verbally abusive because I didn't believe the information whe gave me. Do NOT give them your credit card number! Thankfully my debit card had expired or they would have charged me $500 for a spacer my daughter didn't even need. Now they are threatening to sue me for $500 because after they told me "if you are uncomfortable with this procedure before we begin you may want to reconsider". I did and went to an actual orthodontist who has been practicing for 30 years and my daughter does NOT need the spacer. When someone is willing to pay you $6200 for dental work and the response is "you may want to reconsider" I don't see that as good customer service. Now they are trying to get my $500 in any means possible. How hard up are these people. Good luck if you go here. They will perform services on you and not tell you it isn't covered by your insurance then bill you. These people are crooks and should be forced out of business!

I suggest not giving your credit card. We saw Dr. Hauppers. My son came home from his appt and was told he had 9 cavities. This shocked me since a year before he had none. I was told that they were tiny but you should fix them right away before they develop into larger cavities. While my son was there they gave him samples which included a MI paste...My husband took my daughter there for her appt. While checking out they told him they needed our credit card on file in case our insurance company didn't pay. I've never had to do this at any dentist or dr. office prior. Isn't that why they call your insurance company? To find out what your insurance company will pay for & that you are eligible for the benefits!...2 weeks later I noticed 2 charges on my credit card. One for $26 & one for $62. I called & they said ""when we looked up your insurance we see that you have a 20% copay."" Which was totally not true, my coverage is 100%. It also didn't make sense since the $26 for 1 of my kids & the $62 which was for another, didn't equal 20% of their charges. Plus my other daughter & I never were charged at all. Found out that $25 of the $62 was for the MI Paste they gave my son. I said ""did you tell him there was a charge for this paste?"" in a snotty tone she said ""I don't know what the hygienist told him, but he is 21 & it is something that he needs."" I later asked my son & he said she never mentioned that there would be a charge...After my daughters appt my husband walked out of there saying how unprofessional they were. My daughter had braces & has beautiful teeth. During her appt, they sat & bashed the orthodontic job....I was out of town while my husband had a Saturday appt. On Friday night there was a snow storm & my husband was called in to plow. He returned home at 10am on Saturday morning. He called in the middle of the night & left a msg canceling his appt. Next morning I received a call saying he wasn't at his appt. I told them I was out of town & I know that he plowed all night so I wonder if he forgot the appt. or slept through it. I said can I just reschedule his appt. when I get home? She said Yes that's fine. A week later they sent me a note saying my credit card was going to be billed $50 for the missed appt. That's when I found out he had called & canceled the appt. but didn't give 24 hrs notice. I called & explained the situation but they didn't care why he missed the appt. I proceeded to tell her that when they called me to see where he was they never mentioned that he would be billed $50. If I knew that I would have called him to wake him up & get him there. I don't like how they charge you without mentioning the charges in advance...I also was told that all my fillings need to be removed. I said I'd like to get a 2nd opinion so I'd like my x-rays. They said it would be $10 for them to e-mail me the x-rays or $25 to put them on a disk. There was only 2 pictures & they wanted to bill me $10 to take 2 seconds to e-mail them. Nice customer service! I thought that once they were paid for they were considered my x-rays anyway. Well, they said this isn't the case...I sent an e-mail regarding all these problems and asked that they credit my credit card. I also asked for Dr. Hauppers e-mail so I could let her know why she was going to be losing 5 patients. I got an e-mail back from the office manager who did refund me those charges, but I asked 3 different times for Dr. Hauppers e-mail & was never given it. Hopefully she will now be able to read about these issues here...$ seems to be their driving force not the well being of their patients...I was at a party this weekend & I overheard a woman talking about how disgusted she was with this new dentist office, found out she was talking about Bull Valley. She had some of the same issues, they billed her credit card as well & she was also billed the $25 for the paste without her knowledge. BEWARE!

I have been to Bull Valley Dentistry several times and have been treated by Dr. Hopper which has been a wonderful dentist. She is always on time and so polite. The reception staff there is amazing along with the atmosphere of the office altogether. I would have rated this office 5 stars if I hadn?t met Dr. John Dano. After seeing him, I will never spend another dollar in that place no matter how much I loved my primary dentist.\r\n\r\nI had an appointment scheduled for 3 weeks to get a mold for a crown that I needed in place. I was experiencing some discomfort with my gums so I was looking forward to this day for the entire 3 weeks. (It was the first appointment available). I received a phone call telling me that Dr. Hopper would not be in that day. I asked if I could see someone else since I really would like this mold done and crown ordered as soon as possible. They fit me in to Dr. Dano?s appointments and needed me to come in early for him to be able to see me. I took a half day at work in order to get there on time. I ended up waiting a half hour before I was seen. As the dental assistant was explaining the procedure I had some questions about my options. Basically, could I skip the temporary crown and just get the mold and my crown ordered. I thought that since it wasn?t a life or death situation I could wait another two weeks for the permanent fixture and save the hassle of the temporary which would cost more and had several pages of things I could not do while wearing. As I was talking with the assistant, Dr, Dano barged right in, did not introduce himself but began scolding me telling me that I ?shouldn?t argue? and that I had an ?exposed nerve? which needed to be covered. First, thank you for introducing yourself, second, I didn?t know that asking about the procedure I was about to spend thousands of dollars on was not permissible, and last, I did not have an exposed nerve which indicates that he has no idea why I am there in the first place and had no justification in lecturing me when he clearly had no idea what was going on. To signal the end of the conversation, he leaned my chair back and stuck the mirror in my mouth. \r\n\r\nWhen he inspected my mouth he called his assistant over and told me to bite down. When I did this he said ?See! What did I tell you.? to the assistant. I asked what was he looking at and he told, while snickering to the assistant, that obviously my previous orthodontic work did help my ?giant over bite?. Seriously, I don?t know if I could have felt any more berated than I already had. He then began to make casual conversation because I think he could tell that I was more than angry with his behavior thus far. He asked me what I did for a living and when I told him began to laugh. Again, what are you laughing at? So Mad!\r\n\r\nHe then stuck a q-tip in my mouth and started numbing my mouth where he was going to put a shot. I had not idea that I needed Novocain, since he interrupted my Q&A with the assistant. I asked him what exactly the procedure was. He then flipped out, slammed in instrument on the table, told me that if I didn?t want the procedure done I shouldn?t have been there in the first place. As he stormed out he, quit rudely, told his assistant to explain the procedure. Hello! That?s what we were doing before you barged in telling me that I needed to stop ?arguing?. Needless to say I was so disrespected that I immediately left. I have never had anyone treat me so poorly. Dentists are a dime a dozen. I will not drive the half hour to that mans office to be treated like some bum off the streets. I do have insurance, money to pay for the procedure, and an education to tell me that I will spend my time and money with another doctor that will treat me with the courtesy I deserve.\r\n

this joker hasnt got a clue how to talk or treat people he has no class and even less manners. he even treats his staff poorly, if you need a dentist, there are alot of good ones in McHenry, that appreciate new patients and wont break your wallet... be warned... .

I have to say that Dr. Dano and his staff have been very genuine with me from the begining. His staff helped to set me up with a payment plan since I was not able to pay the full amount up front. Not at anytime did I feel like I was being over charged. I would gladly pay a little extra for the quality and experience that Dr. Dano has and gives to all of his patients. Everytime I am in his office he is personable with me and always tells me about his most recent dental education. Dr. Dano is a very smart man who likes to stay current with the leading dental techniques.\r\n\r\nDuring the holidays the office is always decorated festively and it is always very clean. There is a play room for the children which is nice because not all offices offer these children's areas anymore. I even over heard one of the staff offering to watch a woman's child while he was watching a movie in the children's room while she had her dentistry done. \r\n\r\nI would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Dano and the rest of the Bull Valley Staff! I love going to the dentist now!

I've recently had some very bad dental work done by a different dentist, to the point where I almost had to have an implant put in because she almost wasn't able to save my tooth. Dr. Dano was able to save the tooth enough to fix what the previous dentist messed up. I enjoy going to his office, everything is very clean and welcoming, from the fishtank, to the kids playroom, to the TVs that he has in all the rooms for you to watch while he is doing his work. Everybody at the office is very friendly and make sure that you don't just feel like another patient. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a dentist.

Everybody at the office is very friendly and make sure that you don't just feel like another patient. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a dentist.

Dr Dano is very skilled in full mouth restoration cosmetic surgery.\n\nI have had unbelievable dental problems from childhood. So many agonizing hours at the dentist........fillings, numerous root canals, extractions etc. \n\nDr Dano has given me a full mouth restoration of beautiful porcelain teeth.............not just crowns..............beautiful porcelain crowns. \n\nDr. Dano discouraged me from getting upper and lower false teeth.........He advised me that false teeth are not permanent either and present many restorative problems later..........they are not permanent. \n\nDr. Dano is a perfectionist and is not happy with low quality dentistry. \n\nDr Dano did two of the necessary root canals........I have had at least eight root canals over the years. These were successful root canals........I was grateful for that.\n\nI had a dentist tell me once..........""THERE IS NO HONOR IN BEING THE CHEAPEST DENTIST IN TOWN"". Dr Dano exemplifies this...........He is not the cheapest dentist in town...............only the best........\n\n

The office so welcoming. I have never been to such a welcoming dental office. Me and my children were greeted by a welcoming front desk staff. The waiting room was great while the kids were waiting for there appointment. Not that we had to wait long, we were seen with in 5 minutes of being there. The clinical staff was also very friendly to the kids. It was so nice that Dr. Dano and the staff talked TO my children not around them. The amount of knowledge within the office was great. I have never felt so informed about my childrens dental care!! This is were every parent should bring their children and be rest assured that this is the best dental treatment their children will ever recieve!!

Dr. John Dano of Bull Valley Dentistry is the best dentist I have ever had and the only one I would recommend. Like me, Dr. John Dano is a perfectionist and wants you to have the best care possible. He takes the time to get to know his patients, looks out for their well being, and is also very understanding. I have read some reviews where they complain about the cost, but you need to understand that excellent care and quality come at price and Dr. John Dano is worth every penny!!!\r\n \r\nThe office and his staff are PHENOMENAL!!! They are very friendly and they keep the place extremely clean. I have never had any problems when scheduling an appointment and I never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seen. They have personal monitors in each room so patients can choose what they want to watch while getting their dental work done. Also, they have a waiting room for children where they can play video games, color, or watch movies.\r\n \r\nOverall, if you want the Cadillac of Dentists who legitimately cares about your well being, then Dr. John Dano of Bull Valley Dentistry is definitely for you.

I've been seeing Dr.Dano for a long time now and he is an exceptional dentist. My son fell and cracked his tooth on a trampoline and I was so panicked when it happened. I called Dr.Dano's office right away and asked what I should do, and they gave me instructions and got my son in for an emergency appointment right away. Thank you Dr.Dano.

Me and my husband had a dentist in Mt.Prospect and since its a long drive we have decide to see Dr . Dano and he really knows what he is doing ,the only problem is that they keep changing and adding to price every time you are there.Your first price even if its on paper will change.I have never deal with such of shady office and if there is a problem with money it seems like Dr.Dano as dentist and owner of that clinic don't want to talk to you in person. All you have left as an option is just pay.Like for example they forgot to tell me that I had to pay $250 per toot for lab fee on top of crown. It cost me additional $500 wchich made my total price for 2 crowns close to $2500 including initial visit with x-rays .At my other dentist office I will have everything done for $1400.Same good job no surprise.\n

I have been a patient of Dr. Dano's for more than twenty years. I feel that he is dedicated to providing the best possible care for his patients. He keeps up on the latest techniques and uses state of the art equipment which means that the work he does on my teeth will not need to be re-done by someone else down the road (as was the case with work done by my previous dentist)..

Over the years Dr. Dano has done fillings, a couple of crowns and
what they call "on-lays" which look great. He also custom made a "night guard" for my teeth to prevent damage from grinding my teeth when I sleep. Dr. Dano has educated me in doing a better job of caring for my teeth while improving my smile.

You get what you pay for and I want my teeth to last my lifetime. That is why I do not feel that Dr. Dano's dental services are over-priced. I prefer excellent dental care and a person I can trust to look out for my future rather than the possibility of inferior dental work elsewhere that I will regret in the future.

I have visited this dentist since he went into practice 24 years ago. The office is very pleasant, the hygenists have all been pleasant and I enjoy going to see them. I now have a very good foundation for all my teeth. Everyone who sees my veneers says they're the best they have ever seen. I have them on the top front. I have also had to have 6 implants to replace two bridges. The surgeon (the implant doctor) did the actual implants but Dr.Dano mounted the crowns on top of the implant fixture. These teeth also are wonderful. Many people tell me I have a wonderful smile and I credit this to Dr. Dano. The veneers are very natural looking. I have not had dental insurance for many years but I believe in paying for my teeth. Many people my age do not replace lost molars, etc. I do. I think it is money well spent to get the best dental work in a most comfortable setting. I recently took a nursing class and was taught to brush teeth and dentures for the elderly. We must have all out teeth in order to chew our food well and to get the proper nourishment. So, Dr. Dano and staff, thank you for caring for my total mouth and giving me wholistic treatment for same. I value what you have done for me.
Sincerely.
An admiring patient

I went to Bull Valley Dentistry originally because I felt that my previous dentist was not providing me with the care that I needed. I was feeling a lot of pain in one of my lower molars and I went to my dentist and he said that it was a minor cavity and that it could be taken care of at a later date and he sent me home with some pain medication. After a week of the pain medications not working and severe headaches I made an appointment with Dr.Dano. I went in for my first appointment they did a checkup and Dr.Dano said that I had several cavities and at least one of my molars needed a root canal. He preformed an emergency root canal that day and after the initial pain I was all better and I have an appointment to fix the rest of my teeth very soon. Dr.Dano was very kind and his staff is very professional and explained everything to me in a way that I understood.

I think this dental office provides great services. With Great services comes a high cost. Like the other post, I had started looking for a new dentist as I felt I was not getting sufficient care at my other dentist.

This office provides one of the most thourough exams I have ever had. They pointed out a number of opportunity area's that needed attention. Where I have a problem is that their standard of care for my mouth is several levels over where the previous dentist standard of care was. The three family members that came in for a visit each had a 7K-12K treatment plan.

So I recognized a problem with the previous level of care and cautioned them that I did not want to go over an Alotted amount of insurance and allowedthem to start working on my college age daughter.

She scheduled her own appointments and I had indicated only 1 cavity to be filled to try and see how costly care would be. Well, let's just say I ws surprised by the bill because they did 3 fillings and a partial crown.... I am now making payments... Bottom line is You get quality for a price you may not be able to afford. Yes they have payment plans bu who needs one of thsoe right now...

I have to admit, I had to update my review since I was going through a battle with this dentist's office at the time I initially reviewed them. In fairness I will say, as I mentioned the first time Dr. Dano is a perfectionist, he loves his work and he is good at it. If you need any cosmetic work done, this is the place to go. I do think however, they are way way way way too expensive (did I forget to mention way). Most dental insurance does not cover 100% of major work. Bull Valley will charge you above and beyond what is considered to be "customary dental fees", be prepared to pay. You'll need to dig deep into your pocket if you need more than a teeth cleaning. Make sure you discuss the work that is being done and how much it will cost your before you actually have it done.

When I mentioned it to one of the office employees there that their prices were high, I was told that they feel they are the Cadillac of dentists and you get what you pay for. Well, just to let you readers know you can get Cadillac quality and Cadillac service, even at your minivan dealer. Dr. Dano you don't have to overcharge your patients for the same thing the dentist next to you can provide, which are not at Cadillac rates.

I left for a couple reasons. First, their high prices of course, Next, I had work done that my insurance felt wasn't necessary. Of course, I fought this. If my dentist says I need it then I do... right? So I asked my dentist to write a reason of treatment plan to my insurance. This happened twice to me at this office and it took FOREVER to get the dentist to write this note to my insurance. Of course every month I got that bill to pay, with interest (which was waived after my constant complaining), while the paperwork was not being written to my insurance company.

Then there was the issue of my "wish list". On the first visit during the consult I was asked what is it that I wished for (in my mouth). Well, I want veneers more than anything. But the reality is, I won't be getting them anytime soon. It drove me nuts, every single time I was in that chair the first question to me was about my "wish". My response was, "If $20,000 drops from the sky and into my lap maybe I'll get those veneers". Basically, I'm there to get my teeth either cleaned or worked on, stop asking me about the what if's and work on the to do's please.

Lastly, work was being done on my college kids mouth, without my approval. Yes, I know the Hippa laws and she is responsible. However, it's my insurance and I pay her bills since she goes to school and lives at home. Without letting her know how much it would cost out of our pockets they asked her "while you're here, do you want to get the rest done." Well, in her defense what does she know about how much medical/dental costs, so she says sure. I was over my insurance limit, their rates are too high and I got stuck with a huge bill. In my defense, that office knew I always asked how much things cost before I did it so I didn't go over my allotted yearly deductible.

In my opinion, even though he is a top rate dentist, this office has poor customer service, cares more about how much money it makes than how happy their customers are when they leave, and they make going to the dentist a hassle rather than a joy.

There is ample parking, the office is very modern and clean. I do want to stress Dr. Dano does beautiful work, but we live in McHenry, not Hollywood, there is no need to rape your customers pocketbook. I recommend this dentist for quality work, but nothing else.

Oh, you have to wonder when a dentist goes through a couple of dental hygenists and the gals at the front desk, maybe they know something that we are already thinking.....hmmmmmmmm????
