I opened 2 checking accounts in October. I've had nothing but problems with them. I was told (when I opened the accounts) that if a debit, credit, or check came through, they would not pay it if the money wasn't in the account. Back in January, I thought I had enough money to cover a U-Haul but I didn't; my balance was in the negatives, but they went ahead and paid $191.03 to U-Haul putting me in deeper and charging me lots of money. Then I finally got that acct caught up & told them I wanted that acct closed. Well, they closed the wrong account. That caused many problems and throwing me back into the negatives. And just tonight I found out that in March, I wrote a check at Target for my medications. The amount was $33.44. I had a positive balance in the account of $19.24 but they wouldn't honor the check. They sent it back to Target and charged me $36.00! The way I found this out was I received a notice from the Will County State's Attorney Bad Check Restitution Program fining me $258.44 on a $33.44 check that the bank refused to pay! If I don't pay that in 10 days, I could go to jail. Now how can a bank pay out $191.03 when the balance in the account is a little over a (-$43.00) and not pay out $33.44 when my balance was almost a +$20.00? Now, because of their greed I have to come up with $258.44 by May 11th.The best part is on 12/23/08, I lost my job. At 7AM on 1/2/09, my car was repossessed and at 7PM on 1/2/09, I was evicted and had to be out in 5 days (hence, the payment to U-Haul). I have absolutely NO money to pay for anything! I can't get my medications, my girlfriend and her husband have paid for me to stay in a motel because I was sleeping in my car with my four cats, I can't pay my bills, well, you get the picture. The emotional stress from dealing with National City (they refuse to refund my money) is getting to be too much. They have taken all my paychecks to cover the negative balances which should have never been. They have messed up twice and have cost me a lot of money and stress. I would NEVER recommend using National City Bank.Annette F.
