The Scene
Come as you are--as long as you're flush. Manicured professionals decked in khakis and Claiborne frequent this pleasantly standard spot, owned by the purveyor of River North's Garrett Ripley's. Wood-heavy decor and exposed brick walls emanate a conservative, Cubs-friendly feel while approachable pub fare and straightforward cocktail selections promise to welcome even non-locals with open arms.

The Draw
Be assured, nothing too crazy goes on here. Think patrons ordering single malt scotch neat with straight-up Reuben paninis, high-powered professionals sipping casually on Amstel Light, and post-frat 20-somethings snacking greedily on onion rings and poppers. A modest import selection comprises bottles and taps, and Old Town Pub also boasts a respectable collection of whiskey and vodka. TVs cast antique bric-a-brac in the glow of everything from golf to rodeo, and typcial tunes--more mainstream than hipster--range from Pete Yorn to Dirty Vegas.

Key Points

  • Out Door Dining

The Inside Scoop

  1. Underage OK - Old Town Pub doesn't have an overall age restriction because of its draw as a popular place to eat. Of course, those who order or imbibe adult beverages have to actually be adults, so bring your ID.

a real irish pub

by Craig F. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,667

There are so many boring establishments in Chicago that call themselves "Irish Pubs" that the phrase has come to mean something closer to "standard chicago place with stools that serves beer."

Guy who agrees with this statement, please meet Old Town Pub.

There's something about this place that actually sets it apart from other Irish Pubs. Perhaps it's the lively atmosphere devoid of people trying to make the scene. Maybe it's the cool decorations on the wall that aren't trying to look like anything in particular. Perhaps it's the actual Irish people I've met here who have helped me hone my fake brogue. Probably a little bit of everything.

You'll fall in love with it!!

by joe s. | insider Insider | Rank: 15,891

Old Town Pizza has the best pizza. The price is cheap and the slice is big. Although, it isn't really a place where you can go with family, instead you would have to take it home. Whether you eat it there or at home, the pizza is not like anything you have never had before.

What Happened!?

by oldtownlifer

We have been going to this pub for several years and LOVED the food (mostly the thin crust pizza). We took a break for a few months after our daughter was born, when we came back the menu had COMPLETELY changed! They made it an Italian based menu. Don't you think we have enough Italian places in the area!?! Bring back the tater tots and southwest eggrolls and paninis and the best thin crust pizza in the city!!!! We had a great place for really great bar food and they ruined it. BRING BACK THE OLD MENU!!!!!

Dr Jerry Katzman MD - Omega-3 levels

by dr_jerry_katzman_md

Dr Jerry Katzman MD - Omega-3 levels

To learn about omega-3 levels for different types of fish ? as well as mercury levels, which can be a concern ? see our Encyclopedia entry on Fish, Levels of Mercury and Omega-3 Fatty Acids.

We also recommend eating tofu and other forms of soybeans, canola, walnut and flaxseed, and their oils. These contain alpha-linolenic acid (LNA), which can become omega-3 fatty acid in the body. The extent of this modification is modest and controversial, however. More studies are needed to show a cause-and-effect relationship between alpha-linolenic acid and heart disease.

A great secret found in Old Town

by alisonwndrlnd

I've been going to this bar for over a year, and yes everyone knows my name. On week nights (sports pending), it's a fairly low-key place to have a beer and food. They've recently expanded their menu and put Fat Tire on tap. They do start to know you after going only a couple times, and the bar is usually packed with locals/the usuals. If you live around here, it's a great place to hang out. The people who work here are all exceptional and very nice. The weekends can get a bit crowded. I love this bar.

Pros: great food, good crowd, local watering hole-but fancy

Cons: sometimes too smokey when it's really busy
