Nothing but good things to say about potbelly. Guess everyone's doing the toasted sub thing these days but it doesn't get much better then potbelly

Good, pretty cheap, filling. This is a great place for lunch. Service is quick, many great options for your sandwich, and the sandwiches themselves are bigger than subway, but not as overkill as Quizno's.

It's a concept. It's a franchise. It's not a sandwich. Awful. Why must everything be toasted and/or smashed?

Pros: There if you're desparate

Cons: How about just a simple sandwich?

.

How can you not love the original Potbelly's, now that they've sprung up everywhere? Sure, it's a limited menu -- it's a sandwich joint -- but they have a way with the toaster, and all of the sandwiches are gooey great! Plus, the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are worth a wait in line.

I live in New York but my favorite part of visiting Chicago is Potbellys. Others may try to copy their style of toasting the sandwich but they fail. Potbelly's make the best sandwiches, shakes and cookies. Needless to say- not the best option for those counting calories. I anxiously await the day they open in New York until then I'll have to visit them in Chicago.

Pros: The Food, the Service, THE PRICE

Cons: Line can sometimes be long and seating during lunch time is limited.

.

It's really not a bad sandwich place. It's solidly better than subway, on par with a good day at Quizno's. The only thing is, if you're in Chicago, there are probably a dozen unique and awesome sandwich places within one mile of you - at any given time. Try Jerry's. Try Bari. Try a Mr. Beef beef. Heck, try a hotdog at Portillo's!

Pros: Uniform menu all-over downtown Chicago

Cons: Uniform, boring, hectic at lunchtime

.

Once you eaten these a few times, you realize they all taste the same. There's not a lot of variety or creativity here, and they don't really compare to great hoagie or grinder places on the east coast. That being said, if you're hungry, and have exhausted all other options, you could do worse. Reviewers who grade these high are the same who think that Domino's is great pizza.

Pros: Decent, cheap and filling.

Cons: Average quality, at best.

Fast and friendly service. Nice ambience. Average sandwiches. If you like toasted sandwiches, go to Quizno's instead. Sandwich wrappers are always oily from workers gloves. Not worth going out of your way for and definately not a top Chicago eatery.

This is the original Potbelly's Sandwich Works. They have the best hot sub and milkshakes in Chicago. If you like Quizno's toasted sub sandwiches, then you would looove Potbelly's. Because of this Potbelly's, many more have opened all over Chicago including in Midway airport. If you come, be sure to try the italian sub- its the best.

I have been going to Potbelly's for the past 10 years! I used to go to the original on Lincoln Ave when I was in High School, and as a huge fan I can't begin to describe the happiness I felt when they started a chain! Now I can be in the North Shore and get the same amazing sandwich with that special mustard, I can also be in Printer's Row and do the same! I am amazed that the quality of the sandwiches was Not compromized by the expansion! Potbelly's, you are awesome! Thank you : ) Best of luck!

Potbelly's is so great. but one tip, if its your first time, dont feel rushed, the line moves pretty fast sometimes, but the people are usally really pacient, and nice. but make you, take your time when you order, read all the items, DONT FEEL RUSHED! enjoy!

One of the best!!! Are you kidding? Potbelly is popular due solely to media hype. They have an incredibly limited menu serving so-so sandwiches. The attraction of this chain seems to be their attempt to cash in on the current trend of trying to be different or hip. They accomplish neither. I can only imagine why anyone would want to eat there more than once. So if you have the urge to say you've eaten at one of the "cool places", then go, but after that I guarantee you'll reach the same conclusion as me- quality of food and prices are far more important than being trendy. And that's all I got to say about that.

The sandwiches taste good but that's it. Who is eating at this place and getting filled up? Too many of you suburbanites in our city. I'm a life long Chicagoan and we like our food big. Went there once and will never go back.

Pros: Taste

Cons: Size, No extras, Overpriced

Potbelly's makes a good if not great sub. There is no reason to ever wait in the long lines this place has around noon at any of the downtown locations.

All in the all the place is very over rated and if you want a sub I have had better at many other places with much smaller lines.

When you don't know what to eat for lunch or a quick dinner - Potbellies is always a great choice. They have a system that works...(Your basic sub gets put in the oven, then you customize the condiments...). The oven baked taste is great. Every once in a while I wish they were a *tad* bigger, but most of the time it's just the perfect sub.

The BEST sandwiches. The ambience is incredible, but you'll never get a table. You're lucky in fact if the line doesn't wrap outside. Still, it's worth it.

Besides baking their teeny sandwiches, there is nothing special here. No personality. It's lunchmeat, people! There are a dozen other sandwich places near every Potbelly's that are better. Perry's comes to mind and is chock full of personality. And to wait in line for lunchmeat is just like waiting in line on Michigan Ave for popcorn.

It is a good sandwich, but it is a bit pricey and it isn't the best sandwich in Chicago. In my mind, it cannot be number one.

Look, it's definitely better than Subway, and the service is usually fast. Prices aren't too bad either. But the simple truth is, none of the sandwiches are terribly exciting. There are only about 8 ingredients available, and the vegetable selections especially are just plain boring (will none of these sandwich places ever learn that canned black olives add no excitement to me sandwich?)
For a quick meal, though it's not half bad.

I recently discovered Potbelly and it's quickly becoming a favorite of mine in the deli category. All the subs I've tried here have prompted repeat visits. A starting point for all is a delectable Italian bread. If you haven't had the pleasure of tasting this bread, wait until you try it - it's delicious. Then meats and cheeses are piled on and the whole thing goes through an oven. Finally, you can fine-tune your sandwich with your choice of fresh condiments - mayo, mustard, oil, onions, lettuce, etc. The result: a truly unique culinary experience. My only complaint is that the sandwiches are a bit small for someone with a large appetite - but then you can always buy more so I shouldn't quibble. I highly recommend that you give this place a try. I'm convinced that you'll be hooked just as quickly as I was.

Very good subs and this is a compliment when you consider I'm a Philadelphia native (home of the hoagie). The sandwiches are great. My family asks me to bring them home. Biggest drawback is that the sandwiches are a bit small so you sometimes want to order two but the prices are a bit too high for that.

Had the pleasure of sampling Potbellys at Midway airport. Had a Tuna and have to say it was the best sub I have EVER had!! I was very disappointed to learn that there are no Potbellys on the Southwest side or surrounding suburbs (like Bridgeview or Chicago Ridge) come on Potbellys spread it around. But please don't change a thing as far as taste, quantity or preparation. It is perfect!

I think that this place is worht the wait. The service is always fabulous and the food is always consistent. The sandwhich is good, not amazing but there is a lack of good sandwhich places here in this city. SO good service, fresh food, and great price. What more could you want.

Why do people stand in line to eat here? The sandwiches are mediocre, and the service can be pretty rude. Perhaps it's the ice cream or atmosphere, but then again, the generic treats and Ponderosa-inspired decor can hardly be enough to sustain this overblown reputation. In the Loop, try Mangino's or Perry's for a far superior meal.

Editorial from

What began as an antiques shop blossomed into a local empire with lines out the door at many locations. The reason: toasted sandwiches stuffed with high-quality meats. Honest-to-goodness-addictive is the Italian on a crisp-baked roll, but…
