I went to see a great band at Schubas, and I had such a great time. It has an extremely friendly atmosphere, and the service is excellent--Good music, good food, good service--what more can you ask for?

Schuba's has a great atmosphere. I love the jukebox there. The service is good and the staff is friendly. They serve food from the Harmony Grill next door. For such a small place they have a lot of impressive names for live music. The bathrooms are always clean too - that's a real plus in my book.

For being a relatively small venue, this place attracts some pretty good shows. I've seen Tom Morello's one man show and some really good local bands.

Cover charges range from $5 to $10 usually.

They also have open mic on sundays.

This is one of my favorite venues of all time. It is fairly small, which I think is part of its appeal. The front room is a bar where you can chat if you're not that into the music, and the back room where the bands play is a simple room with a few tables, but mostly standing room. It is unassuming and simple, with a nice sound-- it gets really good bands and usually a good vibe. Plus the restaurant connected to it has really great above average food -- more than just "bar food." All in all a great spot with lots to offer.

On the bright side, Schubas books great bands and has terrific food (try the Mac n' Cheese or the Honey Chicken Brie sandwich) However, do NOT attempt to go on a Wednesday. My friend and I used to grab a drink every humpday at happy hour until we realized how unpleasant the bartender was. My friend's band plays there occasionally and she's even rude to the talent! Now we make an effort to get there later in the evening when they apparently change bartenders.

Pros: food, music

The brunch at Harmony is to die for. Saturday and Sunday mornings. They use fresh, local ingredients and their recipes are creative and delicious. Great for summer with the open air dining!

Schubas is my favorite venue. We start with dinner at the Harmony Grill which has great food and throws in a free bottle of wine if you make reservations for a show. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere pleasant. The historic music room will hold about 200 and is well preserved and like everything else, very clean. We saw Julia Fordham, Allison Moorer and Carrie Newcomer there this past season and took our kids to a kids Halloween show, it is quite kid friendly and the clientele well behaved. The bar is our last stop(when alone) and it is well run and friendly.

Cons: no seating in hall, parking tough

Schubas may be tiny in size but the bands it books are not. I've heard several great local bands there. It's also a comfortable place to chill with friends and throw back a few beers.

If you hear your favorite band (non-arena rock, I mean) is playing here-- GO! It's a great little place that books bands who have an extra night after playing at Caberet Metro sometimes. (Meaning bands you wouldn't often see in such a small setting.) When I went there (several years ago, yes) the bartender was Darcy from Smashing Pumpkins' twin sister (really). The bar downstairs is for chatting and the music is one floor up-- up the very tiny, spindly spiral staircase at the back. I was a little nervous about being trapped up there in and emergency, but really, that just adds to the excitement of seeing a show there.

cool atmosphere in the back of the joint. nice little stage room for local and nat'l acts who are on the verge of busting out.

the bar is nice but the food is pretty poor. overall, i'd say stick to the booze and tunes. by the way, great location on southport. plenty of things to do in the area.

teeny, tiny schubas is a great place to see acts before they get huge. pete yorn and david gray have both played shows here in the past year. it's a neat little space, comfortable, with a cool bar in the main room. good for folksy little shows.

Editorial from

You may not know some of the rock-influenced indie pop bands at Schubas, but a year from now they might be the next big thing. A lot of young Midwestern acts on low-budget tours take the stage during the week, but weekends belong to moreā€¦
