This is not your Taylor Street over-priced pasta place. Bruna's is the real deal. Check out this original Italian neighborhood, where my grandparents came to live, and where my parents were born. All I will say about the taste and quality of the food is that, next to actually eating the food when I am in Italy, this is the best Italian restaurant I have found in Chicago.

Bruna's food is consistantly delicious and authentic. Staff is friendly, and knowledgeable. Being Italian from NYC, I can say this is the best Italian in town. Restaurant is medium sized, with a great bar in front (good wines) and a few bar tables. They can accomodate larger parties, though call for reservations with more than 6 people. Atmosphere is homey, though the service is as precise as high profile (priced) restaurants. Great selection of classics, with several nouveau items added. Daily specials are many and varied, and always done to perfection, in the best tradition of NYC's Little Italy. Many meat-free meals also great! Try to go during the spring Italian fest, held in the street right in front of the restaurant! I've patronized EVERY Italian spot in the area, but only Bruna's has been my family's choice for over 10 years.

Very simple, well prepared Italian food. Not too fancy, and not too experimental, but great every time. The house specialties and daily specials are always winners. The 12 table restaurant with a bar up front fits right in to the old time neighborhood.

Editorial from

In an area overflowing with Italian restaurants---a district often called The Heart of Italy---Bruna's stands out for its longevity and its loyal customers. Its red sauce Italian menu has a certain charm, too, as does the authentic…
