Midlothian Music. What can i say?! Great guys, tons of really nice gear carrying all the major brands. And let me say if you can not find what you are looking for, they will order it up quick. I buy all my pickups and odds and ends from there. From guitars to Tubes as well. They will do what it takes to meet your needs. They have repaired 2 of my guitars and they both have turned out to be great. The pricing is more than fair considering the economy and the fact that all the prices have risen. I've been going to John over at Midlothian Music since I have moved up to the Chicago area (3 years) and will keep going. They are great people, great selection, and they definitely know what they are talking about. Be it your just starting out playing and need help, or are looking for Pro gear, they know whats up!!!! You will not be disappointed in their service and should you have a bad experience, I wouldn't believe it. There is always a solution they can provide you. I wish we had more places like Midlothian Music to shop at!!

Hello. I have had several experiences with Midlothian Music, and I'm sorry to say that they've all been terrible. My most recent disaster involved my sister-in-law's guitar that I brought to the shop to have repaired. It was a USA-made Fender Strat and the middle pickup was broken. It was a Thursday and I was hoping to have the guitar fixed for a musical I was performing on Friday and Saturday. The shop's repair person told me that the guitar would probably be done on Saturday, and if not it would be finished on Saturday at the latest. I also elected to have the guitar setup and restrung, knowing full well that Midlothian charges more than many other local shops. I considered it a convenience charge and went about my business.
Well, the weekend came and went, and it wasn't until the following Wednesday that I got a phone call saying that the guitar was finished. While a little irked, I inquired how much the guitar's work had cost. The representative told me $40 so I thanked him and proceeded over.
As I entered the shop and was shown the guitar, the tech told me that although they were able to set the intonation, the action was not adjustable because of a hump in the guitar's neck. Knowing that that wasn't the tech's fault, I asked if the pickup had presented any difficulty. The repair person nonchalantly plugged in the guitar to show me, and, voila, the guitar's middle pickup still did not work. I then sat and had to watch the person dismantle and reinspect the soldering that had apparently taken the shop all week. After half an hour of waiting the tech re-assembled the guitar and rang me up: to the tune of 58 dollars. That's a lot of tax, especially since the shop only really did half of the normal setup and also goofed the pickup repair. What's worse is that this is not the first time that this has happened. Two other guitars that I have had repaired were quoted to me at a much lower price, and when I sent my girlfriend to pick them up, they charged her significantly more. Last time I swore I wouldn't take my gear to this shop, but this time I mean it.
Long wait times, shoddy work, and inconsistent pricing. These aren't virtues I'm looking for when my higher-end gear is ailing. Midlothian Music, thumbs down. Way down.

Business Response:

Response to Not a Fan In regards to overpriced repairs; this guitar came in for a complete set up which is $30 up front. Secondly, there was an intermittent problem with the middle pick up. Many hours were spent testing and re-soldering cold solders from someone else's repair. Guitar was repaired, tested and customer was called. Customer came in and the pick up was still cutting out. Immediately, in front of the customer, we took the guitar apart, traced down another cold solder and re-soldered all in a matter of 15 minutes. The customer approved of the repair. We only charged $22 for the total electronic work. This is a fair price for an intermittent problem. Most electronic repair shops have an $85 per hour cost with a $40 testing charge. Not once did this customer voice a concern to Midlothian Music about price or quality of work. Instead the customer chose this forum to bash us. Midlothian Music would like to offer a full refund because we take pride in providing 100% customer satisfaction. Please contact us at your convenience.

After buying my first guitar at Walmart, I purchased my next guitar for my son at Midtlothian music, which came recommended by a fellow coworker. Not knowing anything about guitars, the folks at Midlothian music gave me many options, and helped me and my son pick out the perfect guitar for him. They are extremely friendly, and I would recommend them to anyone. They also provide lessons, so my son and I are looking into that.

Was looking for a piano for my daughter, in which I know nothing about. After calling around to several stores, I decided to try Midlothian because they seemed to be very knowledgeable on the phone. When I got there, the salesperson really helped me understand the specifics of many different digital pianos. He was not pushy or forced me to buy. I ended up purchasing from them. They offered to deliver and set up in my home to make sure everything worked properly. Overall wonderful experience. I will definitely be a return customer.

PROS: Superb customer service, strong product knowledge.
CONS: None

Midlothian Music was a great experience and I can't say enough good about how I was treated and the deals I got on my Fender Relic tele and my Victoria Gretsch Tube amp. They are wheeling and dealing. They took a 1/2 hr. while I was there and set my guitar up and I watched them set the intonation on the strobe tuner and adjusted the neck. It plays great and they will give free adjustments for life. I am so happy and will shop again very soon. Who gives that personal service like that. Get down there. I think it is family owned. Rock and Roll Midlothian Music. Thanks!!!

PROS: Every instruments, fender, G&L, Ibanez, Gretsch, Taylor etc.
CONS: Traffic in orland is sometimes congested, worth the wait!!
