Phillips 66 started the not taking checks but only a couple of months ago. So everyone needs to get their facts straight. It does not really matter anyway. I know this for a fact because I work there up until now because they closing to do remodeling.

My daughter is away at college and has only a checking account that we put money in every week so she can get gas, buy food or whatever. She was shopping at Walmart and after she was done she went over to Phillips 66 on E. Jackson Street in Macomb Illinois to fill up. She checked to make sure they took checks as we all know some do not but there was no sign anywhere so she proceeded to fill her tank up. She went in to pay for her gas with her check and the attendent was very rude to her and told her we don't take checks. My daughter was polite as could be and explained that there was no sign that said they didn't and that this was her only form of payment. The woman was so rude and told her that she didn't know what to tell her and that she better call someone. They were even offered a Credit card number over the phone to pay for it because we live over 3 hours away and there was no one else to help her. Luckily her Grandpa was able to come to her rescue and came and paid for the gas. He also told them that there was no sign anywhere on the pumps or the outside of the building to let customers know that they didn't take checks and she once again was very snippy and told him there was which Hellen Keller could see there wasn't. Of course when they asked for her to show them a sign she couldn't produce it. And while my daughter had to wait for over an hour to get rescued the employees kept giving her dirty looks and acted like she had the freaking plauge. Now is this how we should be treating customers? I have worked in retail all my life and you never are to treat your customers like she has been treated. There was no reason they couldn't have been a little nicer to her and to have been a little respectful for God sakes. If a business doesn't take checks you have to post it or is everyone in the world suppose to be mind readers? What a way to break in a new student to the state of Illinois! Thank God all the businesses aren't as rude as the employees at this Phillip 66 store. You would think with such a slow economy that you would welcome all customers. Well, guess what? You just lost a whole lot of customers Phillip 66 because we will be letting everyone we know what rude service you get when you try to do business there. We have a whole lot of family and friends that live in the area and everyone will know so that don't make the same mistake we did...
