The massive appeal of Dick's is hard to put your finger on. We don't know if it's the wacky tacky decor, the sometimes sassy service, or the bountiful buckets of fabulous food. We do know the food's hot, the beer's cold and if the music's too loud you're too old. That's right, we're Dick's where it's fun for all, all in fun for all that dare to enter. Check out our Party Pkgs - like the Bachelorette Party - For only $16.99 per person, your choice of 1/2 lb. Drunken Peel 'n Eat Shrimp, 1/2 Honey Roasted or BBQ Chicky, 1/2 Slab BBQ Pork Ribs, Chicky Caesar Salad, Roadhouse Chicky Salad, Mae West (2 lg. Chicky Breast). At no extra charge for the bride: special cake, Real Women Love Dick's T-Shirt, special "BJ" shot, I Love Dick's Bumper Sticker, Kodak single use camera. Come to Dick's today.

In Short
Expect a semi-tropical, ultra-casual place with tall drinks and no dress code (unless you count Hawaiian shirts, which are encouraged but not required). Popular with tourists, it's also a fave for bachelorette parties and rowdy brunch crowds. The all-purpose, Southern menu is heavy on seafood and barbecue items, many of which are served in stainless steel pails. Choices include shrimp, king crab, ribs, honey-roasted chicken and sides like cole slaw, fries and honey wheat bread.

Key Points

  • Check Out Our Party Pkgs
  • Live Music Every Night-No Cvr
  • Good times....good people

The Inside Scoop

  1. What to Drink - Tropical drinks add to the festive tone, so seek out sips like the Kahlua colada with cream of coconut and pineapple or the mud slide with Stoli, Kahlua and Irish cream.

Crazy place...

by Stan F. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,712

Their nitch is being completely the opposite of any other restaurant. The waiters/waitresses are rude, use profanity... and do some pretty crazy stuff. This is NOT a family restaurant. If you're by yourself an want to try something totally different... this would be it. Food is typical bar type food and live entertainment on the weekends.

Hate this place!!!

by ItsMeJS

We went to eat at DLR because our teenage daughters wanted to go after a concert...knowing full well what it was about. I still hated it. The food was ok but the place was dirty and smelled like sewer - the Chicago River!!! Also, there was one guy that literally walked by and pushed my friend's head forward. I wanted to say something to the manager but our kids (being teenagers) did not want us to say something for fear of being singled out. In my book hitting someone is uncalled for and battery!!! To this day it makes me mad that I didn't say something. I get the rude, poor attitude gimmick but purposely hitting or putting your hands on someone is uncalled for. I do plan on contacting the manager and reporting this incident. My friend is too nice to do so - but I am not. I would never go there again because of this incident. My suggestion to anyone that wants to go there - go only if you can take the punishment they give and like so-so food. Really too bad they took it one step to far. The gimmick is different and unusual but the pushing someone's head forward is not acceptable!!!

Pros: Food was ok - gimmick different

Cons: Smells, staff puts their hands on you, sticky tables

This place is a joke seriously. I didn't eat at all, from the beginning this person started being a completely dumb*** I stood up and left the restaurant. I can't believe being a dumb*** is today's great thing and suppousely funny. Can't believe it.

A Great Disappointment!

by 168

I was there for lunch with a bunch of friends for my friend's birthday. One of my friends had recommended the restaurant and I was so excited about how the waiters and waitresses were going to treat him, knowing the restaurant's unique reputation. Even though I expected to get rude and hilarious service, I did not expect to get almost no service at all! I have never had a more uncomfortable lunch before and it was my friend's birthday! I am embarrassed to have picked the restaurant!

Pros: waterfront dining, near a movie theater

Cons: service is based on how much food you order

You'll love it

by Madi1234569

we were in a hotel in downtown chiacgo and didnt have reservations to any restuarant and then we looked through the restuarant book and saw this. We werent expecting some fancy dinner. somewhere casual. we were with another family. they had three kids and we had two. we knew the whole staff no manners thing. which made it twice as funny. they had live entertainment. My daughter had a great time she screamed along so the whole place could here. we laughed . it was a great way to end a vacation. if you have no sense of humor dont go. but if u do go for suree

Pros: it's a great time overall

Cons: they swear alot. so if you censor dont bring kids

awful

by knowmad

I've been to a lot of bars. This place is dirty. That's why it smells funny. That's why the bars and tables are sticky. How hard is it to take pride in your business? Can someone clean the bathroom already? The beers are way overpriced. And I had no interest in food preparation from a staff who keeps their place scummy. Can we at least wipe down the bars? And what's with the "rude" thing? Is it supposed to be fuunny? Well, it's also funny when I don't tip yer azz 'cause all I wanted was some customer service. This place is a joke. If you want to spend the time and money to go to a bar, then go to a real business- not this playground. I would not recommend this place. It's stupid.

The good, the bad, the stupid reviewers.

by coronacouple

The biggest problem with DLR are the first time patrons that do not have a clue what the place is about. We have been there many times and had a geat time. It can get a little rude from time to time but the waitstaff does a good job on figuring out how your group is to be treated. We have been there with our grandkids and they have been very helpfull. Other times we where there as an adult group, drinking and dancing and they treated us rudely and it was fantastic! We enjoy all types of places and the Last Resort is a fun place with better than average food.
Their burboun glazed salmon is some of the best I have ever had!

Go there with an open mind and you'll have a great time.

Pros: Close to everything and above average bar food.

Cons: Can be boring at times, depending on the crowd.

Attitude, sarcasm, fun, Profanity & personal insult, unacceptable.

by yo60

I went to Dick's on Sunday, 4/22/07 for lunch. I was with 3 friends, and one of the girl's 16 year old daughter. I suggested we eat there because my last dining experience at the outside cafe there was fun. I had never gone into the restaurant. We didn't know it was "buffet only" before 1pm. The Beatles band was great, and the buffet was pretty good, although not exceptional. There was a wide selection. The dessert table was completely separate from the buffet, (on the way to the bathrooms-?!) We would have never known it was there if one of us didn't go to the bathroom, however, by then, we were no longer hungry, and were on our way out.
As far as SERVICE goes, "pathetic" comes to mind. We expected the rude treatment and fun atmosphere, but our waiter was not only short, he was very short on respect, especially since a young lady was at the table. When we sat down, no one came to greet us until we asked if anyone was around. The waiter took our drink order & returned with them, but left us with no knowledge that it was buffet only. When we realized he was not coming back, we went to the buffet.
One of the girls decided she wanted a drink that I had, and since we had a show to catch, I decided to just go to the bar and get it for her. When I returned, the waiter was there, and said;
"I'm right here, you Dumb B#%&#!" I was insulted, however laughed it off at the moment. I told him we had a show to go to, and my friend wanted a different drink, so since he wasn't around, I got it. He then turned to my friend, and told her that she had been a pain in his A## ever since she got there! Interesting, since he interacted with us for about 15 seconds.
I don't believe a sarcastic attitude should include profanity and personal insult. I give at least 20% tip to hard working restaurant workers. We left him less than 10%, although I later wished I had left him a penny with a note on a napkin stating, " Who's" the Dumb B#%&# now?"

Horrible service

by absolutkira

I've been to Dick's twice now and both times we've had horrible service. I know that the waitstaff is expected to be rude--sort of like Ed Debevics, but our waitress was too rude and too slow. Last time, we got our table and waited half an hour before our waitress even appeared. Then we sat another twenty minutes before our drinks came and then waited over an hour before we got any food (even apps). It was busy but you would expect the kitchens to be able to turn out food faster, or our waitress to take care of our party of 8 (ordering lots of expensive drinks) a little bit better.

Pros: atmosphere is fun, portions were big

Cons: service was slow

NOT a great place for kids

by bedebede

I had a riot with a group of 10 women in the deserted restaurant late Thursday afternoon in February. The tenor of Dick's is such that kids acting up would not phase anyone. However, if your child is old enough to read, I would NOT let them go the bathroom there, even to wash hands. As an adult place it was funny, but there were all kinds of condom, sexual device, and erotic pamphlet machines--in the LADIES' room. There were about 15 of the X-rated machines and one each selling tampons and maxipads. That said, it does have a Mardi Gras-ish air about it and we had fun. Thank God our kids were home with their dads!

Pros: Casual, Fun, Good value (for Chi)

Cons: Restroom machines, All fattening foods

LAST resort? No way!!

by alid267

The service is great, very entertaining! I have been to almost all of the Dick's Last Resort restaurants and Chicago is by far the best of them all! The food is great and there's plenty of it! How can you resist?

Pros: entertaining, fairly inexpensive

Cons: crowded
