What a nightmare! I brought in $200 worth of new business pants with a simple enough task--hem each pair a few inches. I got my pants back with crooked hemming, but what's worse, each pair had iron burns throughout the entire pant leg. I

PLEASE DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE BUSINESS.
I was psychologically AND physically assaulted by an employee of Hyde Park Cleaners,
AND they ruined a brand new Diane von Furstenberg $500 dress of mine.
Here is the story:
I picked my items up and inspected them before leaving (always for good measure). On the front of the black silk dress was a 5-inch white stain that was not there before when I dropped it off. They agreed to try to fix the damage, although I was not optimistic about it. I returned when they asked me to 5 days later, and they proceeded to tell me "come back tomorrow" for the next 2 days. I finally demanded to know what was happening with my dress and they admitted that it was damaged beyond repair. I asked to know their policies, and the woman working there claimed that she had only worked there for 2 days, although I heard her say she was the manager to another customer. I left and located another dress (same style, different size, for $145.00). I called to tell her that they would only have to reimburse me at most for that amount, and that this should have been good news to them, as I would not hold them liable for the full value of the dress. She hung up on me. I returned to the store with a tape recorder in hand, determined to get clarity on what my options were. She refused to tell me what their policies were for damaged garments, and she refused to reimburse me for my dry cleaning cost of the dress OR give me the dress, claiming I needed to bring in my receipt for the dress and "then the owner will decide." I was livid but was tape recording the entire conversation so I stayed rational and calm. I insisted on getting the name and contact information of the owners and she refused, telling me that she feels sorry for me because I am "mentally retarded" and that she felt even sorrier for my parents because they had to raise me and that I am "a disturbed and crazy woman." Mind you, I was tape recording the conversation, so I tried not to lose it. She refused to even let me borrow a pen (at this point, can I remind you that THEY RUINED MY NEW $500 SILK DRESS AND WERE ABUSING AND DEGRADING ME FOR NO REASON!!!) so I borrowed one from next door and proceeded to write down the information on their proprietor's license. The employee then ATTACKED me from behind, trying to wrest the paper with the information out of my hand, and we wrestled and I finally successfully pried it from her grasp. She called the police and claimed "I beat her up." This is the first time I have EVER felt truly litigious in my life. In these economic times, in this city where there are so many dry cleaning establishments, PLEASE do not go to HP Cleaners--they have three locations, one at 1379 E. 53rd St, one on Lake Park and 55th, and one on East HP Blvd. I have filed complaints with the appropriate agencies because no one should have to suffer through an ordeal like this! I am left with a dress with huge chemical burns down the front; the fibers of the silk are disintegrating and the dress is completely ruined. If I hadn't inspected my items at the site, they would have given my dress back to me in that condition with no explanation at all whatsoever. This establishment has no integrity and is completely dishonest.
I inspected my other items and there is evidence of harsh chemical use on several other garments as well but I cannot even devote more time to complaining about them. AVOID HYDE PARK CLEANERS AT ALL COSTS.
