I have done rescue for many years. I have been taking dogs to Wonder Lake Vet since the day Dr. Iverson opened the clinic. When he decided to retire he told me that he looked for someone to buy the clinic who shared his philosophy of animal care. Dr. Iverson always felt that he had to do his best to keep costs down so that the average person could afford to e take care of their animal. He also believed in a walk in clinic. He always said When you have a sick animal you need a vet not an appointment. He found the person he was looking for in Dr. Ed. Over the years Dr. Ed has probably done surgeries on at least 1000 of our dogs. I never felt that the dogs were not getting the best treatment possible. He is one of the few vets I have encountered that always tries to keep his knowledge current. He is also one of the few vets who will admit when he doesnt have the answer to the problem.
I read the comments about the rescue dog and felt that although the person was sincere they may not totally understand the problems incurred in rescue. Dogs come into rescue especially those from the south that carry viruses that northern vets have never seen. Many do not show any outward signs of illness until suddenly it flairs up. The fact that the person who posted the message stated that it was 2 dogs from the same rescue leads me to believe it may have been the case.
Some of the comments I have read make we wonder if the writers have ever been to Wonder Lake. I have never seen an employee be rude to anyone. The thought of Dr., Ed raising his voice is beyond comprehension.
To the woman who had the Beagle who felt that she was ill served by Dr. Mehanovic I must say that your vicious posts are not helping your cause. They are filled with hate and misinformation. I think you are the one who should be pitied.

I have known Dr. Edin Mehanovic and his caring staff for over 15 years. During that time he has shown such caring, kindness and compassion for our two labs. His staff is of the highest caliber. When they built their new office, they created a room just for families and their pets during a time when they may need to have their dog put down due to old age or illness. This room has a separate exit so that people would not feel that eyes were watching as they left crying. That is true kindness. Dr. Edin is known far and wide for rescuing and caring for his patients in the middle of the night, and even driving to other clinics to care for a pet that could not make it to his clinic. He has been given countless awards from local animal shelters and even was given the honor of Grand Marshall of our local parade for his efforts to help our pets. For the past 4 years he has been given the Best of the Fox award for Best Vet Clinic. His parking lot is always packed which speaks volumns. His clinic is clean and smells fresh. I met a gal once in the clinic who shared a story of how Dr. Edin saved her pet poodle when other vets wanted to put her dog down. Dr. Edin has saved countless animals lives and it shows when you see the many thank you letters and photos of animals he has saved. The newspaper articles include many stories of his efforts to help the many animals on this earth. Thank you and God Bless you Dr. Edin and your staff for all they do for our pets!

If you visit Dr. Mehanovic s Wonder Lake Veterinary Clinic website the 1st thing you will read is: At Wonder Lake Veterinary Clinic Ltd. we put your pet s health first and foremost. That statement could not be any more FALSE. This is the very short version of the most awful experience yet in my entire life. And no doubt my poor 2.5 yr. old Beagles life too. He had 3 surgeries here. The 1st one he needed. The 2nd one was needed because of an infection which created a mass that was developing during my dog's 5 day post-op stay from that 1st surgery. The 3rd surgery was a life or death emergency because of the HORRID "botch job" done during the 2nd surgery. So surgery 2 and 3 were done less than 20 hours apart! After he "Mehano-victimized" my dog he went to Florida a few days. The other vet there tried to clean up the mess that was made of my poor dogs body. I was worried about being charged a 3rd time, so I asked the attending vet about cost, and I was told that it was unlikely that I would be charged again. WRONG! I came to get my dog right before they closed that night, and they wanted more money. I didn't have the entire amount so they threatened to keep my dog. While the front desk devotees went to a back office to get Old Lady Mehanovic, I took it upon myself to go in the back to get my dog myself. I've been taking him to a new vet and ..he's still having problems after what was done to him! Repeated requests for records were made by me & the new vet, but he's refusing to release 3 months worth of records until I pay. According to the Illinois Department of Regulation and Licensing, and the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, a veterinarian must release records upon request regardless of a balance owed on an account. Dr. Mehanovic is no stranger to violations. He was just fined and reprimanded in February of 2013 by the Illinois Department of Regulation and Licensing for violating rules of the Illinois Veterinary Medicine and Surgery Practice Act for untimely renewal of his Department of Controlled Substance License. You may see for yourself by entering his license # 90007610 at their website: https://www.idfpr.com/LicenseLookUp/LicenseLookup.asp Dr. Mehanovic doesn't care about the well being our pets. He is in fact punishing my poor dog by not releasing his records. He is putting money first and foremost, and NOT our pet's health!

1st Very Clean 2nd when my dog ate a light bulb yes a light bulb Dr. Ed came in after hours & did emergency surgery, sits with my dogs on the floor & plays with them. I travel over an hour to get here, best vets ever. Also Dr. Ed says "when he starts doing it for the money, will be the day he closes the doors. Love the staff also.

Dr. Ed is and has been a blessing for my shepherd. She bloated in January and we brought her in to see Dr. Ed. He did an xray and we were fortunate enough that we could treat the issue with medication and that her stomach had not twisted. In February she bloated again and of course when the worst is going to happen it is usually at night. I called the emergency number and Dr. Ed met us at the clinic, a quick xray and exam revealed that this time her stomach has twisted and that she was going to die unless surgery was done. Dr. Ed performed the emergency surgery on her at 9 at night and did not finish until midnight, Thanks to him I have my Diva who is going to be 9 in May and I owe him my gratitude. I would highly recommend him to anyone and I do. His fees for this emergency surgery were less than one third of the Animal Emergency in Crystal Lake, and I can tell you from experience that I would never use Animal Emergency in Crystal Lake again. Their concern is money first and then they will treat the pet. SO much for taking that oath when they became vets. On the other hand Dr. Ed is the best around and I cannot thank him enough, As for his staff and reception, these people are the best, THANK YOU Wonder Lake Animal Hospital

In November I took my 10 lb Female Yorkie to the Lake Zurich Animal Clinic because of an iritated Vulva. The vet guessed an infection occurred while going into heat. He gave her antibiotic injection, pills and powder for irritation. I did not like the way the vet began shouting to the clerk to remember to charge for things. A week later, no better so he repeated the treatment. No improvement $310 later. I began to keep it clean with antiseptic soap and rinsed with warm water and peroxide at which time it began to respond. December she seemed to be breathing hard. I was referred to Wonder Lake Veterinary. Dr. Mehanovic was great! He took an XRay which revealed a nasty clouding in lungs. He gave her antibiotic and pills and cleaned the Volva area ($165). He wanted a specialist to read the XRay. Buffalo Grove Veterinary - $128 to just to read his Xray and they wanted $350 to take more XRays. I couldn't afford that so I went back to Wonder Lake for another XRay after a week of her being on meds. It looked like it had improved but ever so slightly. Dr. Mehanovic told me it was a fungal infection which was harder to treat. He gave her another antibiotic injection and one for pain $155. She seemed to be more relaxed that day. Took her to bed with me at 10PM - she stepped on my pillow at 1:45am to wake me up. I had to coax her to sit or hold her. She wouldn't lie down. I carried her outside and she went pottie. She was able to drink water. At 6:30am my husband got up. He held her for about 10 minutes and then handed her back to me. At that she began to fail immediately. Her little body went limp, she gasped for air and then died in my arms. Except for the Lake Zurich vet visit my little Yorkie did not leave our home. Our second dog is as healthy as can be so we just don't understand where she picked this fungal infection up. Wonder Lake Veterinary folks were as kind and as caring as could be and very fairly priced. I would recommend them without hesitation. I believe that my Gypsy was past the point of return when she saw Dr. Mehanovic the first time but he did the very best he could under the circumstances. I called the Wonder Lake Clinic to let them know that she died. I had hoped to talk to the doctor again but did not get a return call which disappointed me.

I've never been to this vet before but heard good reviews from my friends. I had a stray that weighed 3lbs and was maybe a year old just come up to my door. They we're the only vet that had someone I could reach by phone, they took the time to address my concerns and come in on a Saturday at 5pm. She ended up needing fluids and was very dehydrated they took the time to recognize this and really made us feel at ease with a cat that no one cared about but they took the time to care for this little precious thing. They showed that they are willing to go above and beyond what is needed to care for a pet. I cannot recommend this place enough! The building is very clean and fresh smelling and the prices are really really reasonable! A++++

Dr.Mulovich is a great vet. We have been seeing him for years.
I can tell the man truley loves animals. Three of owr dogs lived a long happy, healthy life with him as our vet.
When it came time to let owr lovedones go he was very understanding. With Stomy owr Husky she had gotten to the point she couldent walk and we did not want to move her he came to owr house and she passed outside at her home surrounded by her famly. I will never forget that. We still have one husky and we will continue seeing Dr. Mulovich. All of owr dogs have lived to 15 years with him as our vet for most of their lives.

I took my Golden there for an ear infection and the bill was ridiculous. He never once even told me how much each thing would cost, he just basically did it. It came to be about $300. I about cried right there. I returned the meds, paid for the shot he gave him and walked out $92 out of pocket still with a sick dog and no meds. What a scammer. Well, guess they have to pay for that new place somehow! I highly recommend you go to Fox Lake Animal Clinic and ask for Rudowski. He's phenomenal and honest! I pay $30! He's a specialist too. All the top breeders use him. It's a walkin only clinic so you'll have to wait, but well worth it!

My baby Injured his knee while chasing squirles. Yucon is siberian husky and alwys very active. Dr's in the other clinic estimated that the surgery is going to cost me about $3,000. I heard about Wonderlake Vet Clinic from my best friend. I took Yucon there and WOW was I impressed with the place and friendly service. The ride from Palatine paid off. They fixed my dogs knee for 1/3 of the price. That clinic and Dr Ed an his stuff were very friendly and profesional.
The place looks so nice and clean. I will bring my baby there for anything they are THE BEST.

I took my dog in for an exam and it was suppose to be $30. When we saw the Dr. he kept recommending certain tests and didn't really give an option to say no. By the time I left the bill was $162!!! We agreed with everything except one certain test the Dr. did we said no and he said "we really should do it, let's do it." I took my 2 dogs there seperatley and saw 2 different Dr.'s and they both said thyroid issues. My one dog is overweight and the other is just right. I feel like I got scammed. My other dog got all her shots and everything and it was only $92.00. Never again didn't have an answer to our questions.

I have never had a problem with our vet. We have taken our animals there for the past 5 years. When our 20+ year old cat was sick Dr. Ed took the time to explain to us what was going on and gave us multiple options to choose from when it came to nursing him back to health. I can't wait until he opens the new clinic hopefully in the Spring '07

My sister referred me to this vet. I was actually happy where I was going, but the pricing was cheaper and she really liked it here so I gave them a shot. The place is small and I think the owner is the only vet on staff. However, he is a great vet. He takes time with you, asks a lot of questions, my dogs took to him fine and the price is right.

I like that even though they do take appointments they take walk-ins too. I go first thing when they open, and I always get in right away. I've never had a problem.

My one dog is allergic to her yearly shots, which they get a couple each time. I told my vet when I switched that her throat blows up like a balloon when she receives her shots but I didn't know which one. The previous vet, would just give her another shot in addition so she wouldn't have a reaction. This vet said, why put her through all of that, we'll give her one at a time and wait abit to see which one she is reacting to. Then we will switch meds when we find out what one it is.

I liked that answer. It just showed me he cared. That impressed me.

This clinic is dirty, unorganized and the surgeries are horribly overbooked. I was told to drop Fluffy off at 9 AM, and told I'd get a call when her surgery was done, about 12 noon. My cat was left sedated and lying on a table while the vet saw walk in patients! Her spay surgery was not even done until after 4PM! When I saw the kennel room the next morning, upon retrieving Fluff, I was appalled at the sickening odor of cat urine as well as the dead dog lying in a kennel marked "Do not open-Possible RABIES!"

PROS: slightly cheaper than other area clinics
CONS: level of care is suspect-employees are unprofessional and RUDE!
