Head West

is great!!! Quite possibly the best subs in the country. I have traveled coast to coast never had a sandwich that compared. Highly recommend this place to everyone, I do!!! A+++

I agree, Head West is only OK. As for the best in town? No way - Jimmy John's has the best subs in town, hands down. At least, in my opinion.

By the way, I don't count the opinion of an employee as valid - obviously you're going to defend your poor work ethics, and those of your co-workers. People don't generally volunteer how poor an employee they are!

head west is the best that is out there. it seems someone is there at all times of the wee hours of the morning prepping veggies, slicing meats and baking bread. that is the only way it could taste so fresh. and yes i would expect it to have a line, its the best.

The food is very good, the service could be better. They dont make their own bread...The bread comes from another local company that doesn't get the credit they deserve... You might know them as MeloCream, ask about the sweet frenchbread and how you can get some... maybe at head west or melocream

Katie M, you just admitted that the workers there do get stoned. Thats completely retarded of you to admit that and sell out your co-workers if you do work there. The bottom line is that there are workers that are stoned and either don't know how to make a sandwich or are just too dazed and stoned to realize that they are working. Half of them sit in the back at Jefferson st and smoke all day while popping there head out to see there is a line out the door and won't get there lazy asses out there to help. RIDICULOUS

The sandwiches are great and the brownies to die for, but the service, particularly at the downtown store, flat-out stinks. I stood there for a full 5 minutes waiting for the guy working at the counter to acknowledge me. There was only one other person in the store, but was never acknowledged or asked for my order. I finally just walked out (hungry) and headed to Quizno's. The hippie vibe is cute and all but come on guys! If you turn away too many hungry customers, we won't be coming back!

head west is the best thing since donkey kong.
all the employees arent always stoned, and its extremely rude to be saying that.
when there is a line out the door, and you are working alone, and the phone rings, its understandable to be a little irritated on the phone, but hanging up? we dont do that, so whoever said that, is straight up lieing!
everyone should eat there, considering its best sub shop every year in the Illinois Times (woot woot!)

While it is true that they have great food, they also have horrible service, which is mainly due to the fact that half the employees are so stoned they can't seem to get your order right or get the food to you in a timely fashion. I understand being busy during lunch and dinner times, but taking almost 2 hours to deliver a sandwich to a location 10 minutes away or less because you're too stoned to find the place is ridiculous.

Head West Sub Shop is an awesome place and the best small time, Ma & Pa sub shop in Springfield, IL. They bake all there bread in the store and have a nice hippie vibe to the place.

If you can go to the store great but here it is at 9 on a Saturday nioght - The Jefferson Street Store can only put you on hold for 10 min at a time then say they cant tell you if they are deliveering because they dont know where their driver is and have a lobby full of customers and hang up - called the Robbiins Road store - was told theyve stopped delivering and then they hung up - I called back to find out the owners and how I can contact them - was told it was hit or miss and hung up on again - I used to eat at these stores 3 - 4 times a week but now will go elsewhere

I live in Springfield and I go to Headwest all the time. It's the best sub shop you could possibly find. The sweet bread is amazing, and the service is spectacular. Delivery can take a while at around lunch or dinner time, but what else would you expect? Obviously they get a lot of customers for a reason. The food is delicious.

This sub place is not worth your time. I ordered from here not long ago for a delivery. Over an hour and a half later I called to see where the food was, since the kids were getting hungry and cranky. The staff person was extremely rude and unhelpful. He insisted that I was told when I ordered that it would be over an hour, and when I tried to argue that wasn't true, he hung up on me! The food is just not good enough to put up with horrible service.
