We've been going to Clay's for 20 years or more. It's a required lunch stop of every trip to the outlet mall. Everything is good, but of special note is their fried fish, breaded pork tenderloin sandwich and pies; my personal favorites are the rhubarb pie (cannot be beat) and their oops pie (chocolate chip pecan -- hello?) Couldn't believe there was a 1 star review for one of my favorite restaurants. I've been there probably 50 times and never had a bad deal and if that ever happened, I know the owners would make it right.

Pros: The pies are too die for! Daily specials are fantastic
Cons: The coffee is a little weak for my taste
We were in Kendallville, IN for a family reunion. One of the family members took us out to their favorite local restaurant, "Clay's Family Restaurant". We are from Southern Oklahoma and this was our first time to this part of the Country. It is beautiful!!!!! We loved it. We can't wait to go back.

Pros: Best Homemade Food in Indiana
Cons: Parking was limited
Located by the lakes, you can enjoy traditional lake fare and not empty your pocket book. The food is good, filling & plentiful. Very down home and worth the price.
4I am in customer service and I believe in going the extra mile, at least sometimes, to make sure customers are happy
You will not find that in this small town restaurant

Pros: Did not have a chance to find out what the pros were
Cons: Bad first impression. Poor customer service
In 2003 over Labor Day weekend, in the rain and looking for refuge after the outlet mall we decided in the middle of the afternoon to look for a place to sit inside and enjoy ice cream. Not wanting a chain restaurant experience we followed the sign to Clay's family restaurant. What we got was an amazing taste treat of homemade pie a la mode! We enjoyed our hot tea and relaxed in the checkerboard table cloth warmth of Clay's restaurant. My 13 yr.old Austrian nephew and I poked around the adjacent antique shop sure to please travelers of all ages. On a subsequent trip through Indiana on a return trip from Fla. after the holidays at Christmas, we stopped again, and had our super lunch there. Clay's had been closed for 2 weeks and this was their first day open! What luck! This is hands down the best homecooking restaurant I have ever found.

Pros: Friendly attentive and wholesome tasty food and homemade pies to buy to take home!
Cons: None
Clay's is a very nice little restaurant with very reasonable prices. The food is good old-fashioned home cooking like potatoes & gravy, chicken, meat loaf, vegetables, pie, etc. The portions are just the right size (unlike most of those bigger restaurants where they charge way too much & heap way too much food onto your plate). Clay's is a small, peaceful, pleasant place to relax & eat food like your grandma used to make. .....(It's North of the outlet mall on the same road that runs north/south along-side I-69 by the outlet malls - If you are leaving the outlet mall, turn left so that you are headed north...instead of turning to get on I-69 or the toll road, keep going north past the gas stations & Shelton fireworks ... the road gets less busy & smaller...Clay's will be on the left (west) side of the road.)

Pros: Inexpensive, Old-fashioned cooking, good food/great value
Cons: small parking area
