I heartily concur with every positive comment about this treasure of a store. This kind of ambience and charm can't be eeked out by formulas or 'recipes for success', it's borne of a genuine love of books and the desire to share that love with others. The Hyde Bros. and their store epitomize that.....and a bit more. Each time I enter the store and am inevitably drawn further into the tall noble stacks, it seems to me as if that love of the brothers and most likely the many patrons who caress the book's backs (both hard and paper) somehow just leaked out all over the place. Hyde Bros. Books truly
is a special place.

This store is a delight to visit. Their inventory is huge, of relatively high quality, and very well organized. The recently added annex means you will spend even more time lost in the floor-to-ceiling shelves. If you're a collector, you can trade your unwanted books in for store credit which is one of the best deals around.

This is one of my favorite stores. You can't go anywhere better for atmosphere. They have book floor to ceiling(and what a tall ceiling). You walk in and the smell of old books assails you. I love it. They have every book you could imagine. And what they don't have they will find for you. I especially love the leather bound books area. The brothers and friendly and social. People should travel for miles to come here. It's like stores you would find in old London!!

This is one of the best bookstores in the MidWest. The minute you enter the store you will see bookcases that run from the ceiling to the floor filled with books (including books tucked in sideways to fill the shelf to the maximum amount). I like to look at the transportation section that has a large number of vintage train books. The store takes book trades and purchases books outright. Your best bet is to bring books to apply to a trade. The owners are very generous about the amount they give for tradeins and will keep your total on a card that they place in an large, multi-stack old wooden file drawer that they keep behind the counter. They will put your amount down and when you wish to cash in your trade-in amount, they simply cross off your credit. It's nice to see things done the good old fashion way and not with a complex network of computers. Parking is available on the street out front and I have never had trouble finding a spot during the weekdays or on the weekends.

Hyde Brothers is a terrific store with a wide variety of good quality, reasonably priced used books. It's also a fun place to visit, and one can easily spend an afternoon exploring the stacks. We particularly enjoy the large science fiction/fantasy section in the basement, and my husband loves the large history section on the main floor. They will purchase used books for cash or store credit.

Hyde Brothers has it all in books- current or out of print. It has books for children, young adults, the scholar or just enjoyable adult reading, plus a book store cat who acts as greeter. From the religious section , technical section, art or true crime and the many other sections available there are always different books to see or maybe you missed it the last visit thru. Store is a stuffed to the ceiling with choices. Staff is very well versed in what they have on hand and if they don't have it, they can tell you other places to search for that special book. Joel and Sam Hyde - the Hyde Brothers know their book biz. Put this store on your FIRST stop for books.

PROS: Best book store in NE Indiana
CONS: Parking is limited at times

This is a wonderful quirky used bookstore with a large ecletic collection. I was shopping for some out of print books for my mother in law's birthday. They were able to point me right to the books. The staff is knowledgable and ready to help. The store is small and crowded, but that leads to its charm. Prices are very fair,

If you haven't been to the Hyde Brothers Booksellers on Wells Street, then you haven't been to Northeast Indiana's best bookstore. Rare, out-of-print, unusual, the classics--the place has it all! Explore the narrow rows in the basement or climb the ladder to reach the top shelves on the main floor. The prices are reasonable, even for the rare and unusual books. Call to see if they have the book you are looking for. The staff is helpful and friendly--and they know their inventory. The staff actually reads, as opposed to some chain bookstores in town who apparently hire people on the basis of ability to use the register. Highest recommendations!

PROS: Bookstore classic! Helpful, wide inventory, classics through rare.
CONS: I still would like to know who the Hyde Brothers are.
