.

I have a very very common last name, and sometimes this lends to unusual problems when it comes to video rental, bill payments, credit issues etc.

Anyhow, I went into Family Video a few months ago, to rent a movie. The woman behind the counter asked for my phone number, I told her that our number had changed, and I couldn't remember the old one. She asked the name of the account holder, when I gave it to her, she rolled her eyes and started typing away. Finally she came up with our address, and surprisingly told me that I had late fees somewhere around $10 I think. The first red flag was the fact that we had a late fee...that NEVER happens, I am very careful about returning movies on time. I never loan out rented movies to anybody either. The woman said she couldn't tell me the title of the late movie, she said that it wasn't listed, it just comes up as a late fee. I know for a fact that my husband could not have rented a movie without me knowing it.
Next she proceeds to tell me that my name is not even on the account. Which I know is false, because I went in with my husband when we created the account there, He made sure I was added. She said there was only one person on the account allowed to rent movies, and if someone had been on the account at one time it would show up. I asked her to check the address again, she rattled it off with a tone of scharcasm in her voice, then said that my name was never on the account, and so I could not rent a movie there. She said she looked to see if there was another account at our address/phone number, but she didn't find anything. I had been renting there for several months, so of course I was pretty shocked.
I asked her if by chance she had rented a movie out on our account to another customer, she got very offended, turned red, and told me that I would have to pay the late fee and be added to the account before I could rent a movie. I put the movies down that I was going to rent, and told her that I was going to Blockbuster. She told me that she would allow me to rent a movie just one time on the account, but after that I'd have to be added to it, This also sent up a red flag, as I am now thinking she probably did this for someone else, on our account...and they incurred the late fee.
I rented the movie, returned it the next day, and signed up for Blockbuster's online program soon after that. I always seem to have issues at Family video with snotty cashiers who would sooner spit on you than help you locate a movie.
I will give them a thumbs up for their "adult" film section, but in general the place gets a big fat 0!
