We used to eat here a lot - tried to go back earlier this year and couldn't believe how hateful and nasty the waitresses were! We tried it twice, April and May, and both times were disappointed. We're in our 40s, so maybe we're too old - the lack of respect was amazing!

I was tempted to call the board of health. When approaching the outdoor seating area I saw that three empty tables had yet to be bused. I wanted to turn and walk out but my friend saw someone she knew and they struck up conversation. I then ordered coffee and looked at the menu. We ordered our food and asked that our table be cleaned before our food arrived. In the middle of our meal an employee brought garbage out from the basement and sat it in breathing distance. Appalled and disgusted all outdoor diners got up from their seats and stood where they could get fresh air. My dining partner went inside to pay for our below average meals and stated that we were just overcome by the trash stench and needed to leave as our appetites were ruined. The "hostess" made no apologies or suggested alternatives/compensation.
I know this establishment well. I have been disappointed for the last time and will not give it another chance. It has LOW standards, which is too bad considering there are not many options in the area, especially for dining out late.

In 1936 I was eight years old. I lived in an apartment building behind the Old Point Tavern. I began to sell newspapers and magazines in front of the corner door at the tavern. I also shined shoes and sang with the records on the Juke Box, positioned inside the door of the Tavern. It was the beginning of a show business career lasting to this day (with time out for service in the United States Marine Corps for - WWll - The China Civil War - Korea) I am now 80 years old.
Also On that corner I sold the first issue of Life Magazine

Although it gets busy and servers are running around trying to get orders in as fast as they can...they do a great job! There is no BSing with this staff! I respect them greatly!

OPT Is a cozy neighborhood joint, the kind of place where "everybody knows your name" if you're a regular. So it's surprising to find innovative menu items, truly fresh ingredients and outstanding daily specials... all at reasonable prices. The only downer is that it is still a bit smoey - it is a tavern, after all. Avoid this by sitting outside in nice weather... enjoy the view and people watch.

PROS: Great food, good prices, cozy atmosphere
CONS: smokey :(
