We have one of the best zoo's in the US, the dolphin show alone is worth a trip to our zoo, the just recently re-did the entire dolphin area, we have not had a chance to go and visit it since they closed for the remodel but we will take our kids very soon, it does tend to be a little pricey but getting a season pass it the way to go if you LOVE the zoo like we do.

The Indianapolis Zoo is designed with families in mind. There are many things to see and do...carrousel, kiddie coaster, animal shows, animal feedings, trick or treating in October, etc.

For our family of six who visits a few times a year, it only makes sense to get the family pass. Although it is costly, it would cost us more to pay each time. I would like to see the carrousel and coaster become free to members like the carrousel is at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis. Food is about what you would expect at a zoo. Fortunately you can picnic outside the zoo gates. I wish they would provide a picnic location within the zoo for families who would like to bring a sack lunch. Parking is $5, but free for members.

All in all it's a fun time, but if you're looking for something fun to do that won't break the bank, you might want to look elsewhere. There are many opportunities for fun that are free around the city.

I definitely recommend a membership...free parking ($5 for non-members), 15% store discount, 20% admission discount for guests, admission discounts for other Indianapolis attractions (see website for list) and the wonderful freedom to go as many times as you want for as long/short as you want.

I recommend staying or going late in the day. We just went last night and since there were very few visitors, we got to see all kinds of animals that are usually hiding during the day (even heard the lion roaring)! Check out their website for all show and animal chat times - highly recommend the elephant bath, giraffe feeding and the macaw feeding.

If you want to see the dolphin show, you need to go early (tickets are free w/paid admission, but they go really fast and could be all gone if you go too late in the day).

One tip on membership...purchase it at the beginning of a month - you actually get a 13-month membership (vs. 12). It is good until the end of that month the following year, so if you buy it on May 1, it's good until May 31 of the next year!

PROS: Membership benefits, great animal interactions
CONS: None

The Indianapolis Zoo is an excellent place to spend a spring or summer day. There are plenty of animal exhibits as well as interactive activities. Your kids will love feeding the giraffes, watching the elephants bath or riding a pony. There is a dry play area and a wet play area.

The new dolphin area is great, but the new show really needs some work. The underwater dome is really neat, though.

Membership is reasonable and well worth it. We like to get a membership because it takes the pressure off. We can just go for an hour or two without feeling like we have to see everything in one day to get our money's worth.

This is a great place to take your children. They offer many activities for your children to do. I would strongly recommend taking your child there for a great time!
