This is a really wonderful place to visit, if youre in downtown Fort Wayne. There are several large rooms with very different exhibits. If youre suffering from a bit of wintertime cabin fever, try spending a couple of hours in the humid Rain Forest and the Desert exhibit. The great thing about the Rain Forest is that its got the running water and pleasantly steamy climate but none of the bugs or poisonous snakes! Christmas time is special at Botanical Gardens because they sometimes have garden railways running.

The Conservatory is a beautiful, peaceful place to spend a quiet afternoon. There are three main areas: the showcase garden, which changes regularly, the tropical room and the desert room. The plant exhibits are well-maintained and the facility is always clean. While there are child-directed activity areas, I suspect that most kids would be quickly bored in this environment. Admission prices are reasonable.

The Botanical Gardens are a beautiful place to spend the day, either alone or with family and friends. For children, there are several neat features. The entrance has a small pond with fish and a giftshop, then you enter an area where kids can explore a fake tree and garden. Then y ou enter the gardens themselves - first a large room with the currently featured exhibit, then you go into a rainforest room, and finally a desert. Along the way there are child-friendly things like an earthworm tunnel to dig through and a pretend grocery store, etc. Often when I've visited some parts of the play areas have been broken or not-functioning, though. We are local and visit a couple of times a year; more than that would probably become repetitive for my kids. I recommend it as a beautiful, peaceful place to "recharge".

PROS: beautiful plants, peaceful, neat kids activities
CONS: some kids activities not kept in repair
