I have been going to the Red Room for about two years and it is one of the FEW places I will go in Broad Ripple. My fiance and I had our engagement party there and it was handled perfectly. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was so romantic and upscale....Our guests had a great time.
I've read the previous reviews and I'm surprised...our service has always been great, the music is ok-not the best but current and great for dancing, and the people there are always hot. My girlfriends and I love it!

It is amazing how someone can take the class right out of a place RR used to be a great place with great people. Now it is just a bunch of INDYS finest yuppies! Not to mention the owner has no class what-so-ever!

When I first arrived at the Red Room I was pleasantly surprised by the cozy artsy atmosphere..however that was my first impression which would change quickly. I thought the music was horrible and wondered if the man was even a actual dj or just one of those wedding/kids birthday kind of dj that was playing music that was quite dated & stale. When me & a friend ordered a cocktail from the bartender he stood at the end of the bar hanging out with his friends & drinking himself! The female bartender was very busy & was effecient..however she just wasn't able to get to me. When the older gentleman finally did approach me & my friend he took our order but decided to get the white females there cocktails first that ordered after us! He then went on to take all of there friends order while we still had not received our 2 vodka & cranberries. I asked him if he was going to complete our order and he rolled his eyes at me muttering a racial slur under his breath! I was outraged! When I asked to speak with a manager he told me he was the manager! I believe his name was Tony. Well this Tony man told me that if I did not like the service then I should just leave. He then muttered something to the security they looked at me and started laughing. I can not believe that a establishment would be so careless in there choices of who to run there business. This Tony man was slow rude and was drinking on the job! And this is the man you have running your business? No wonder there is no crowd there..no one will go somewhere that the customer service is horrible and clearly there business reflects that. I would not recommend this place to anyone under any circumstance.

The Red Room to me is a waste of a very nice space. I didn't get to see it when it first opened a few years ago and I bet it might have been very classy at first. I do like the physical atmosphere there. It has a candlelit and very warm-looking decor. That warm look is deceptive though; it was freezing cold inside the night I was there (late April 2007). They had ceiling fans going full blast in anticipation of the crowds, which did arrive after a little while (around 11 PM). What wrecked the experience more than anything for me was the horrible music selection. An iPod would have done a better job as a DJ (or maybe one *was* the DJ). For example, they played Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back". Not just as a joke or for spice, they played it seriously from start to finish. This was back-to-back with Avril Lavigne's teeny-bopper stuff, Usher stuff from like four years ago, etc. Top 40 and stuff that's not old enough to be old-school and cool to hear, just slightly old and stale. This was played at earsplitting volume. A bouncer I chatted with claimed that the music selection is basically the same no matter which DJ is there. It was so smoky that I, a non-smoker, had a slightly raspy smoker's voice for about 3 days afterwards, probably because I had to yell to talk while inhaling it. I didn't try any drinks or food, so I can't say anything about them, only mention that they appeared to have a shorter menu than they used to. I saw no mention of tapas or anything, but maybe they're still there. They don't seem to enforce their dress code much, so that whittles down the "classiness" a bit (i. e. a few raggedy jeans, t-shirts and dirty sneakers were around). I don't plan to go back unless I hear they've gotten a decent DJ, or I might go check out one of their salsa lesson weekday nights. The people in the pictures from that look nice.

Pros: Nice and intimate physical space and location

Cons: Loud, bad music, smoky

Based on my experience on Saturday July 22, 2006 I would never frequent this establishment again. It was too crowded and too loud. Most important, the service by our female server (Audrey or Aubrey) was deplorable. It took over 15 minutes before the server stopped by our table. We ordered 3 alcoholic drinks and 1 water. When she finally brought us our drinks she only brought the alcoholic drinks, yet requested payment. It is unacceptable to request payment if the order is incomplete. Our total was $18. When we gave her $20, she looked at us contemptuously and waited for us to give more. While her action was rude, we gave her an additional dollar for a total of $21. The server walked away without saying thank you. After tasting his drink, my friend realized that it was the wrong drink. We tried to get the server?s attention, but she was clearly ignoring us (presumably because she didn?t think a 16.7% tip was acceptable). Despite not liking his drink, my friend drank it because our sever had been MIA for some time. Eventually the server appeared. My friend said, ?I don?t think this is what I ordered.? She said, ?What did you order?? He told her, and she realized that she did not take his order correctly. Regardless, she said, ?We don?t do remakes? So, what do you want me to do about it?? I said, ?You could get him the drink he ordered.? She indicated that she could get him another drink but not for free. She stormed off making some rude comment. So I asked her for her name and spoke with the manager/owner. He acted very impatient and dismissive towards me. He said that the server told him that we did not pay for our drinks. I said, ?The drinks were $18 and we gave her $21.? He said brusquely, ?Well, that?s not the story she told me.? He did not seem interested in what I had to say and just made the correct drink for my friend. Additionally, I worked as a server/bartender for 6 years. Being busy is no excuse for such poor service. Lastly, my friend worked at the Red Room for years (and left on good terms) and she said that the owner and server's attitude was completely unacceptable and furthermore, the Red Room does in fact do "remakes" if the item is not what the customer ordered, or if the customer simply does not like the way the item tastes.

PROS: Good Location
CONS: Understaffed, poor customer service, too loud, overcrowded.

This place was supposed to be upscale. Yeah right! The music was extremely loud that you had to yell just to get the person next to you to hear. The service was aweful. My friends and I sat down at a table, ordered a few drinks and the waitress brought my friend the wrong drink, in which he had to sit there for about 15 before she came back. After informing her that she brought the wrong drink she stated..."What do you want me to do about it." Well, for starters, maybe another drink would do. She stated then that we should take it up with the owner. After talking with the owner, he stated the server had told him that he didn't pay for his drink. Ok, right! Why would any server bring a drink and not obtain the money for the drink. Nontheless, the owner provided another drink but was very upset and immature about it. After my friend drank his drink we saw that the glass was actually broken. Although the bar might be trendy, the crowd was just your average 'run-of-the-mill' bar flies.

We got there around 9 on a Sat night, place was nearly empty. By 10 it was packed! Get there early if you want to sit. A great place to hang out and have a few drinks; there is also a huge dance floor in the center. If you're looking for a chill place to sit and converse with friends, try somewhere else (even sitting the furthest from the dj, we could barely hear each other). But if you're looking for a trendy bar/club with great drinks, definitely check it out!

This is exactly what Broad Ripple has needed for a long time - an upscale lounge with very good food that caters to the most amazing people in Indy. I have been there a handfull of times and without fail the atmosphere and crowd has been fantastic. (If you are looking for a star sighting this is the place to go - I have seen Pacers and Colts players, White House staff members, famous musicians after their performances, not to mention all of the notable local celebs). Most nights there is some form of live music (jazz, funk, latin). The place is a little hard to find - no sign, no neon, no velvet ropes - so just look for the red door and walk upstairs.

The best place to hang out any evening. The owner's dedication to great bartenders and great food, her class shows through in all of the customers that frequent her bar.

Finally something different in Indy. I just discovered the Red Room when I scheduled a dinner with friends for my wife's birthday. The food was amazing, the atmosphere and decor was funky and unique, and the service was attentive and knowledgable. We had the pork medallions, seared scallops, and filet mignon (beef tenderloin) rolled in spices. Dishes range in price from $7-11 and are smaller in size and encourage sharing. They have amazing martinis and a great selection of wines by the glass. As if the evening wasn't good enough - a number of the Colts players came in and sat next to us. In short the perfect birthday gathering.
