Ratings_icons The Very Best Comic Shop in the Mid West!

Matt K.

A couple of years ago I moved here from Chicago and was told by a buddy of mine that lived in Indiana that Comic Carnival was the best comic book store in the country. He recommended this location, but I chose to go to the East Washington Street store first because it was closer to home.

Eventually I got tired of being treated like dirt by the manager and his staff at the East Washington Street store and went to the US 31 store.

The worse thing about the store is the aesthetic atmosphere. It looks like a typical Wal-mart and is very uninviting. The walls are bright white and have an ugly grey tile, while the middle sections are highlighted with red blocks (that kind of look cool, but are awkward to shop). The color scheme does not match and is kind of boring.

If you are also unsettled by the atmosphere that you see, please trust me and go inside the store and talk with some of the staff, you won't regret it!

The first person I met was the manager of the US 31 store, Josh. At first he was kind of intimidating because he is a freaking giant, but he is by far the coolest person that works for Comic Carnival. He constantly makes conversation with the wife and I, and we both enjoy being in the store when he (or his staff) is there (my wife refused to go into a comic store until she went in to pick up some stuff for me and he treated her real good) and now she likes going to the shop with me.

There is a guy though that is kind of hard to talk to. I don't know his name but he is a big red haired guy. He is kind of standoffish at first but after a while you find out that he is pretty cool, but I didn't like him for a while.

I would recommend the US 31 store to anybody. The staff is cool and is not exclusive like other comic stores I have been to.
