I know these places don't usually operate at a profit, but geez. You'd think Tony Soprano ran the place. We called about having our dog neutered and his nails trimmed. The person who talked to us said it would only be about $15 or $20. We took him in this morning and right away they started padding the bill any way they could. He's a new addition to our family. As such, didn't have his shots yet. They said there was a chance he could die during the procedure since he didn't have his shots,so they more or less insisted we get his shots. I've never heard that "dying" business before;I think it was just a ruse to get us to shell out for his shots. Then they said he didn't have fleas, but didn't want him to catch them so they offered a pill for $3 that would keep them off for one day or a $10 shot that would get rid of them for a month. By the time they were done,we were in the hole $90. I know health care for animals can be as expensive as people but dang. Behind this,I wouldn't take a pet rock to these con artists.

I took my two Maltese boys there to have them neutered and they were wonderful to them. They also got their shots caught up. I was a little concerned that they would be testy with me since my guys were clearly pure breed but after becoming a widow, I was grateful for their service. They were all really kind and treated all of us great. My boys were very calm when I picked them up and acted as if nothing had happened with the exception of being sleepy.

I recently had my 4.5 month old puppy neutered, vaccinated, nail-trimmed, and microchipped (and all this for only $100.00!!!) at the Vanderburgh Humane Society's Spay/Neuter Clinic. Not only was the facility spotless, the staff were friendly, welcoming, and extremely knowledgeable. They treated my baby as if he was one of their own. Upon pickup, you couldn't even tell my puppy had been neutered; he was playful and happy! I would HIGHLY recommend these services to anyone. In addition to great prices through their clinic (especially compared to the community vets!!!), they also offer many other needed services to the community such as adoptions of homeless animals, education programs for schools, nursing home therapy with animals, and a volunteer program (which I am signing my whole family up for)! Thank you VHS for all that you did for my baby and for the animals and the people of our community! Keep up the great work!

Is horrible!!!! I took my dog in to get neutered and they clipped his nails as well... When I went to pick him up his nails where bleeding from the quick and from where they connected to his paw!!! Poor baby was so sore, his incision was poorly closed and he looked like they ruffed him up pretty good. The people there were extremely rude and didn't show that they cared at all for the animals... I will never take my animals to VHS again!!!
Another Thing about VHS is they always state that they have to put all these animals to sleep because no one is adopting, they want you to pay around $150 for a cat!!! Now how can anyone afford that?!?

They have built a very nice new building to house the animals and keep it as clean as you can expect with that many animals in one place. They are great with the animals and the adoptions are very reasonable. They are also very community oriented with many events, ads on tv and other things to inform the public about the importance of spaying and neutering pets.

Every place has good and bad. It would be nice to be able to save every animal, but there are not enough homes to take them all in. VHS is commited to helping those they can, and at prices most people can afford. They work hard on informing the public the immportance of spaying and neutering your pets. Why buy when you can adopt?
