The Chef  4 Star Rating - Very good

By Jodi W.

I'm just wondering if the Chef for Ricks is still Mike Hibbeln...
If so.. I can not imagine the food being anything but spectacular! I have known him since 1984 and he was great back then!!

Overpriced Red Lobster / Lower your expectations  2 Star Rating - Wouldn't recommend

By Keith K.

Everyone told us "how great the place was". In reality it is nothing more than an overpriced Red Lobster. The calamari appeared to be processed/form molded with actual "Cheeze-Whiz" as the dipping sauce. The refused to cook any meat rare or med-rare (which says alot about the kitchen staff and quality of meats). The wine list is terrible.
I have no problem paying for a quality meal, but the food and drink is nothing special. You would get better service and quality at a Chili's or Applebee's.
I feel sorry for the people of Indianapolis, because to them this is a great restaurant. They have no clue what they are missing. People need to lower their expectations and raise their credit limits if they plan on "enjoying ( I use that term lightly)" a night out at Rick's Cafe Boatyard.

Beautiful Setting  4 Star Rating - Very good

By Jeannie B. | insider Insider | Rank: 21,896

Dining on the deck on beautiful Eagle Creek Resevoir is a relaxing treat. The food is really, really good. I'd say it's a bit overpriced, but something nice to do every once in awhile.

GREAT SETTING ,FOOD,MUSIC  5 Star Rating - World class

By Amanda S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,548

AWESOME SETTING any time of year, LOVE the summer months and Fall to look out and see boats sailing. Prices are more upscale as is the dining. Very attentive staff. Live music is great! Can even hold Private parties. Not good place for Children. More of a Mommy and Daddy place to get away.

PROS: LOCATION,MUSIC,FOOD

The view is everything  4 Star Rating - Very good

By Trish P. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 4,742

One of the few places to eat in Indy that overlooks water. The view is the reason to go to Rick's Cafe Boatyard. Classy restaurant is lovely inside but the outdoor seating cannot be beat. Have eaten here several times and the food is OK but never stands out. Take out of town visitors here for a leisurely meal with a great view.

One of my favorites  5 Star Rating - World class

By Beth S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,265

I love going to Rick's in the summer. It's on the Eagle Creek reservoir and has a very peaceful setting. In the summer you can dine outside or sit in the bar area outside. There is usually live music which is nice. The have great chefs as I have never had an entree there that I didn't like and the desserts are amazing. My favorite is 5 Pepper Fettucini with a house sald with their raspberry vinaigrette dressing. The prices are higher than chain steakhouses but worth it in my opinion. The pasta dishes are extremely reasonably priced!

Great outdoor patio!  5 Star Rating - World class

By Tori B. | insider Insider | Rank: 14,741

Ricks is a great place to go during the summer months if you like to enjoy the outdoor weather. They have a wonderful wrap-around patio for eating dinner as well as a patio bar area great to meet friends and family to watch the sunset over the water. Prices are fair for a more upscale restaurant/bar and you're definitely paying for the high quality chefs and wait staff. There's also Jazz played most nights throughout the year.

PROS: Excellent outdoor setting
