I adopted a bird from a friend of mine. I did not know a lot about birds, but I thought it needed its beak cut back and his nails done. I called to find out if the hospital accepted birds as patients. I found out they did and made an appointment to bring in my conure parrot. I brought the bird in to the vet and he was very honest with me and let me know he did not need his beak cut back or his nails done because they were exactly the way they should be. I paid for an office visit but I did not have to pay for something that did not need done. It is not that often when someone will be that honest. They could have taken my money but instead told me the truth. I will always bring my bird back here.

I have been bringing my animals here for the past eight years. They are always able to set my animals up for an appointment that is not weeks and weeks away. If I have had any questions, I feel free to call and ask. If the staff can answer the question over the phone, they will or they will make me an appointment to bring in one of my four dogs. Dr. Johnson is a wonderful vet who will explain what needs to be done to keep my pets in good health. All of the staff in the entire office is helpful. I have also boarded my dogs for days at a time and they always have a good time staying. They do not lose weight when there compared to some places we have boarded them. Overall I love the Keystone Pet Hospital staff for all they do to keep our babies in good health.

I called the Keystone Pet Hospital to find out about how much shots for my two cats would be. They were significantly cheaper than the vet I was going to before. I found out I would save even more by bringing them in for a clinic day on Wednesday. I am glad there are still companies out there that are not trying to gouge you. With the economy the way it is, this savings has helped my family. The staff was friendly and efficient. I would recommend any of my friends with animals to go to the Keystone Pet Hospital.

We had taken our dog to this vet once. That visit was for routine checkup and shots. We were tired of paying huge bills to other vets, and this place was recommended as reasonably priced.
The building is older and the interior is simple, but I didn't really care. I want my money to go for care, not overhead! The receptionist and vet tech were very kind and friendly. The dr. was direct and no nonsense, I was told pretty directly that my dog needed to lose weight. But, he really did, so the recommendation was right on the money.
A year later our 12 year old dog seemed to get drastically ill very quickly. I called and made an appt. for the first day I wasn't working- 2 days out. Later the same day it was clear he was pretty sick. I called back and was able to talk to the vet and describe the problems our dog was having. The vet said I neeed to bring him in sooner than the appt. We took him in the next morning and left him there for the day for the vet to examine. The office staff called and left a message updating me on my dog's health. The vet didn't suggest lots of pricey tests- my dog had a temperature so he was treated for an infection. I was able to ask questions and get answers that were direct and focused on the health of my dog. We took hiim home and watched him as the antibiotics kicked in. It took several days, but our dog soon was back to his old self! I really appreciate the quick, reliable care they gave our dog- and the information that I was given by the doctor and staff to help treat my dog for his illness.

WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE, NASTY DISRESPECTFUL AND DONT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING BUT TAKING PEOPLES MONEY. HONESTLY I DON'T EVEN SEE HOW THEY ARE STILL IN BUSINESS!!

My children have a pet rat named Oreo, he developed a lump on his back leg so we took his to Kestone Pet Hospital. When entering the woman at the front desk was very nasty puckering her face up when she seen that it was a rat that was in the cage we were holding. She said she had been there for a long time and didnt know that the doctor seen pet rats and to make sure we kept him in the case so he wouldn't get loose. We filled out paper work and was called back in about 10 mins. They sit us in a the room and said the doctor would be in shortly. The doors were still open and we heard the workers and the doctors laughing and they said its a rat, one said ewwww nasty then I heard the doctor say I'll fix it put the nasty thing to sleep, then they all started laughing. Note that my daughter was here with me luckily she was to busy focusing on Oreo to pay attention to them. The doctor came in and I just wanted to stand up and punch him in the face, but didnt. Instead I asked my daughter to step out of the room with Oreo, and asked the doctor how much experience he had with rats, he said he had seen at least 20 rats and did surgery on 6. I then asked him how many animals has he put to sleep because he thought they were nasty, he pause with a surprised look. I then said you know if you are going to take crap about someone and their animals then you might want to make sure the doors are closed and you aren't screaming it. I turned around and we left. I then called back today and asked for a copy of the bill that they charged me $40 for nothing. The woman working at the desk was different then the one that was there before she asked my name and the animals name, she was very nice unlike the one that was there before. I told her his name was Oreo and he was a pet rat, she said oh really we dont see pet rats here. She said ive been here for 9yrs and Ive never seen the doctor look at a pet rat. I said what? He told me he had tons of experience with rats and did 6 surgery's. She said well it must have all been on days i wasnt working. Cause ive never even seen anyone bring a pet rat in.

I took my cat there in August 2011 and saw the Dr he treated me like I was the reason the cat was sick. she was very old and very small. He said she was severely dehydrated and malnourished. I got special food that she could eat and an IV bag of fluid that my husband & I had to give her between the shoulder blades. She also was losing hair. I felt like he was just treating the superficial symptoms instead of taking the time to try and holistically treat her. she died a week later. The Dr's bedside manner was terrible and even though the prices were incredibly cheap I don't want to take our other cats there ever.

My parents took my childhood dogs to this Vet. and I felt if they had no complaints then something they do must be good since my Mother was the hardest woman to please! I have had dogs as large as Bull Mastiff and small as a Chihuahua and all of my dogs got the greatest care. They treated me and the animals with love and me with respect! They have never let me leave their office having a question unanswered. They have always explained the procedures they felt that the animal should have and told me what would happen if it was not done. This Animal Hospital is not full of glamorous furniture or expensive pictures and fancy things, but it is clean and comfortable and the staff are all friendly and helpful! I would recommend this facility to everyone who wants the very best for their family pet if they love and treat their pet like I do as a family member! And the one thing I figured out over the years is I am exactly like my Mother and proud of it!

I have been taking my dogs to the Keystone Pet Hospital for more than a decade. So, they don't have fancy carpets and larger than life portraits of designer animals on their walls--so what? (There are a few killer cartoons, though, and a poster board filled with pictures of years worth of furry friends.) The doctor is superb and places the same demands on you that you would place on him. Take care of your pets. Get their shots on time. Don't let them get fat (he hates that!). They must have heartworm prevention. Then, when it comes time for him to treat them, he is no-nonsense but always gentle and kind to the animals. Most of the staff has been there since I've been coming, which is a very good sign. You can afford this place. You can place your pets in the hands of Dr. Johnson. Took my dog there this morning. She was glad to see everybody!

I am okay with the ""no frills""... BUT not horrible vet care. Brough my very sick dog there. Should have ran when they brough out a fluid bag that was extreemly dirty. They ended up so miss diagnosing my dogs condition that he died at the Emergency Vet the next day. I called to let them know that he died. The vet ended up calling me back and then ended up hanging up on me! I have spoken with SEVERAL vets and all of them are shocked at the lack that was done when I first brought my dog in. Not to say that he still would have survived, but when the emergency vet and nurses ask you 5 or 6 times ""really, you were at the vet yesterday and they did not get x-rays?"" \r\n\r\nI have since heard several stories that have had similar horrible experiences at this same vet. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET THERE!!!!

Choosing Keystone Pet Hospital for your pets is, in my opinion, about far far more than their very affordable prices, as I would use this pet hospital even if they doubled their prices. If you are looking for expert care of the highest quality that is 100% focussed and dedicated to your pet/pets wellbeing and not focussed on designer furniture, then this is the place for you and you can relax because your pet is in very capable hands.
Dr Brett is the most knowledgeable, professional and down to earth vet that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting in the 30 years that I have had pets, and his no nonsense approach means that at no point do you feel that you are being guided down a route of potentially unnecessary tests and procedures. As one previous reviewer (Some Dude) writes, it is quite clear if you listen to Dr Brett and from the way that he examines your pets that he truly knows what he's talking about. He ensures that you understand exactly what is happening with your pet and the reasoning for his suggested treatment.
All the staff take the time to talk to you and listen and are happy to share their time and knowledge to ensure that you feel that you understand what is wrong with your pet and how to manage those most difficult situations when your pet is ill. They really put you at ease and there is a genuine sense of care. In my opinion they couldn't be more genuinely friendly and dedicated and are obviously animal lovers.
The building itself may not be impressive to look at, but one thing is undoubtedly true, it is very clean and functional. The waiting room is extremely clean and practical, exactly what you need in order to be able to clean down properly at the end of a day's surgery. The day I start equating fabulous designer furniture with professional vetinary capability then I shouldn't have pets.
I do not hesitate to highly recommend this vetinary hospital to anyone that I know. It provides the highest quality of care available, and at a very affordable prices, proving that a high price tag is by no means a guarantee whatsoever of the best care. I am so very pleased to have found them as knowing that I have such an experienced straight forward vet who is supported by a wonderful staff at my disposal, and at very very affordable prices, means that I can relax in the knoweldge that I can provide my pets with the very best care that I would ever hope they could have. I only wish I had found them sooner and guaranteed my pets this superb care sooner.
In short if you would prefer to spend your money on high quality pet care and leave the designer furniture for your home, then you can do no better than come here.

This is a wonderful clinic if you're looking for a trustworthy, smart, no-nonsense Vet and a sympathetic, understanding staff. My family recently adopted a stray Shih-Tzu-Terrier mix. With the help of Dr. Johnson and his staff, Teddy has blossomed from a flea-infested stray to a healthy, neutered, pampered pooch! Bottom line: if you want a Vet you can trust, without the expensive frills, visit Dr. Johnson at Keystone Pet Hospital.

I can't believe this place is still in business. Hopefully the vets from 15-20 years ago are gone (Johnson?). I had a cat seize/have a heart attack right on the table. I kept saying he was seizing and they were more worried about checking his bladder (had and infection). Later, like an idiot I took my 11 yr old beautiful full blooded German Shepherd there when he got sick. They treated him for heart worms (ARSENIC) and charged me over 100. Later per suggestions from friends, took him to Paw Patch (N. Keystone at the time). They told me he had a tumor!! I would have NEVER treated my dog for heartworms with arsenic, making him sicker, knowing he was going to die soon anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable! Be very carefule...

Had surgery performed on my cocker spaniel for a tumor about a year and a half ago and was very satisfied with the care she received at a price much lower than the designer vets which seem to be the norm. They never pushed treatments and tests and actually seemed to enjoy seeing my dog. Recently I was forced to have my cocker put down and they were very caring and quick. If you want flash and high style with your pet care then you won't be satisfied. However, anyone wanting affordability and good care then I recommend.

Pros: caring employees

Cons: no frills - not really a con

This is a small clinic that is not big on frills. They have what you need, but you won't find a mural on the wall or expensive furnishings here. If that's what you like, you should probably look elsewhere, to one of the much pricier clinics in Broad Ripple. We took our dog here, fearing he had an ear infection (which had cost $300+ for treatment last time at a different vet). As it turns out, it was an allergic reaction. The doctor gave him a shot and a mild ear antibiotic (just in case the scratching would turn into an infection), and the appointment, shot, and medication cost less than $70. The dog has been fine since (7 months), unlike at the last place where he supposedly had a "difficult infection" and they strung us along for MONTHS with various tests and treatments. If they had given him an allergy shot, he would have been fine! I'm glad we FINALLY found a vet/clinic that won't tell lies to make a buck. Thank you, Keystone Pet Hospital for being affordable and prompt.

If they had given him an allergy shot, he would have been fine! I'm glad we FINALLY found a vet/clinic that won't tell lies to make a buck. Thank you, Keystone Pet Hospital for being affordable and prompt.

It's not fancy. Very down to earth with reasonable prices. We've been taking our pets there for almost 30 years and they've done a great job, including the down times when the decision had to be made that a pet had to be euthanized. They call to let you know how your pet is doing after surgery but I think it's really to find out how you're doing. They don't try to sell you all kinds of extras or make you feel guilty if you don't buy special foods, supplements, etc. They are there when you need them and I know they do a lot of charitable work for the good of animals, not themselves.

Pros: Sensible, affordable care from caring people

Cons: None for me, but don't expect a ""spa"" setting.

We've been taking pets there since the 70's and have always found them caring and compassionate, especially during "end of life" times. Regular care is good, but if they spot a problem, they will act immediately. We usually don't board, but I we have used them, and had no problems. The cost is very reasonable which is especially important now. They don't try to sell you things or make you feel you are not doing enough to prevent things that might happen and will tell you honestly if a treatment is worth it or not. It's not fancy, just very down to earth. Remember, it's your attitude that your pet will pick up on, so be calm and positive. That's the way they.

I boarded my dog here once and it was awful. I have felt guilty ever since. When I went to pick him up they didn't even know who he was and he had been there for 5 days! He was soaked in his own urine. The worker told me that he had gotten upset and just wet himself, but there was more urine than he can produce at once. When he got home he drank almost an entire bowl of water! For the next two days he was throwing up and urinating all over the place. I took him to a different vet because I thought he might have a UTI from holding it too long. When his bloodwork came back normal the other vet told me his vomiting and urinating was a manifestation of pure stress. Keystone Pet Hospital literally traumatized him.

This place is a real dump. I had to go here to use my spay voucher for my new puppy. She was supposedly vaccinated as well, but now has kennel cough. The receptionist was the one who felt her for hernia and took her stitches out. I never met the vet which made me nervous. She didn't even try to retain me as a repeat customer or recommend heartworm or flea and tick preventative. I will not be going back.

Pros: Cheap and participates in adoption voucher program

I received an exam, bloodwork from this clinic for a rescue dog. the tech did not know how to do bloodwork and caused discomfort for the dog. The vet had to come in and do the work. The exam was poor-nothing was looked at unless I pointed it out. The dog was given an injection of meds that any knowledgeable vet would know this breed should not receive and I spent an anxious night watching for reactions. Prednisone was prescribed but not in the usual dosage . As a knowledgeable dog owner I recommend you seek other medical care for your pet.

We have been a customer of Keystone pet since 1977. Whenever we need to board our pets, this is where we go. They are affordable and very caring. We have had two dogs and two cats under the care of Keystone Pet. The dogs lived to be 21 years and 19 years respectively and the cat 19 years. The cat I have now has been under their care for 11 years. There is no waiting, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend their services.

Please don't go here. If I had known, I would have taken my cat elsewhere. She needed to be put to sleep and during the appointment I was horrified to learn that the vet does not administer the medication through the vein in the front leg, as most vets do now, but instead directly into the kidneys or heart, after administering the same anesthetic that they use during surgery. The first anesthetic shot, the needle literally busted while in my cat (one staff member grumbled about those being "cheap needles"), so she had to have two shots. Then she was given a shot into her heart and we waited for her to pass--it took almost half an hour. Not what I wanted for my cat and not what I would recommend to anyone else. The staff didn't know what we were there for and later, when they did, lingered in the room for "shop talk" with each other while we were waiting for the anesthetic to work. And, to top it all off, the dog allowed to wander the office snapped at me. Like I said, I wish I had known before going here.

I took my puppy to Keystone pet hospital when my puppy was sick. This clinic is well staffed and has knowledgeable doctors. The staffs are very helpful and friendly. The facility is also clean. I was very much impressed by their services. You no need to spend much time in waiting. I am very much satisfied. They take of pets a lot. Food for the pets are also available. Their price is also reasonable and when compared to other hospitals. I would recemmend this hospital to all.
