If I go to other supermarkets and forget my savings card, they can look up the information by letting me type in my phone number. If that doesn't work, the cashier let's me use his or her card. However, at O'Malias, I have to let them take down my information and return with my card. This is inconvenient. It also creates friction between customers and staff who have to explain a stupid policy.

The maximum cash back at O'Malias is $50. This is lower than other supermarkets.

The staff is not well educated about their product line. One cashier asked, "What's that?" "An eggplant." "Oh." Then I found I had been billed for "Chinese eggplant" ($6.99/lb) and had to have it corrected. The staff need to be properly trained, and they should ask other staff when they don't know something.

These comments concern only the downtown O'Malias.

I think it's fine that a supermarket employs mentally incapable people, if those people are properly supervised. However, it seems there are only mentally incapable people at the Downtown Indianapolis O'Malias.

(1) This is a great place to buy totally rotten mushrooms, avocados, and lettuce, all five days past their sell-by dates. (This just happened today.)
(2) Often prices on produce are not even listed.
(3) The prices are like a specialty shop. Michelina's frozen dinners are $0.96 at Wal-Mart, but $1.56 at O'Malias. The sale prices at O'Malias are higher than the regular prices elsewhere.
(4) When you ask for a pound of mozzarella, the assistant grabs a half-pound container and proceeds to drip mozzarella liquid all over the chicken and other dishes. And then she says, "I'm sorry. Not one pound."
(5) These challenged employees often forget to give you your change. It's safer to pay by credit card, because it never needs to leave your hand or wallet.
(6) I would like to know what part of "Please double bag it," they do not understand.
(7) Why can't they understand, "Where are the tortillas?" when spoken or written out T-O-R-T-I-L-L-A-S in block print.
(8) Last year they had a cashier named Gabi from Transylvania, Dracula's homeland, who refused to give me change: two fives for a ten. She said she didn't have change, even though there was a stack of fives sitting in her open register, plain as day. They treat me as if I am as slow as they are.
(9) There is a failure to repair refrigeration equipment. Weeks went by without Hagen-Dazs or soya milk.
(10) I had to bag myself, because one idiot put the produce and tofu at the bottom of a bag and proceeded to stack bottles and cans on top of it. Liquid spilled everywhere.
(11) They don't remember to ask for the O'Mallias card.
(12) There's a 16-year-old boy selling liquer there.
(13) There is actually one competent cashier named Miranda there. When she got knocked up, they had to hire three nearly normals just to replace her. Everyone else is extremely slow at the register and making chit-chat with the other staff.

Kroger, where are you? Save me! It's no wonder Marsh is going bankrupt.

I love the salad bar at Omalias. The selection on it is great. They also have a lot of hard to find items. It's not a store that I use for my basic grocery shopping. It's a fun store and the staff is friendly. It tends to be a little crowded. I think it's the best option for downtown grocery shopping.

O'Malias has food items and brands that are difficult to find elsewhere in the city. All their items are high quality and the service they provide is great too. We love shopping at O'Malias!
