Reviews for Law's Country Kennel

Ratings_icons Sandy is a Happy Camper

I have boarded my 7 year old mutt at least 5 times and have never had any problems with the staff or my beloved dog. She has always appeared just fine when I pick her up. I would never leave her there for a week if I had any reservations about her care.

Ratings_icons A Day in the Country for my Dogs

Lynn B.

I have used Law's Kennels twice, and have been very happy with them. Our 2 dogs seem to like it there too! We found their pick up and delivery services very helpful. When we toured, everything was absolutely spotless.

When the dogs were barking, they were happy barks in tone, not fearful or aggressive barks, just the barks of dogs having a good time.

Our dogs were caged together, and the cages were roomy, clean, and comfortable-looking.

When they were brought out for us to take home, they seemed to like the staff, and did not shy away from them or act fearful.

And by the way, when I originally called around to check prices for boarding, there were several that were considerably more expensive, and did not offer the options of play times with other dogs or exercise walks around the lake.

My co-worker also took her dog there and had a good experience as well.

Ratings_icons Poor Sam

Randy J.

Craig,

I am so sorry to hear about Sam's adventure at Law's Country Kennel. As a fellow dog lover, I understand how upset you are. I too, have been looking into a boarding facility and was not impressed with Law's. I was told that each dog has their very own indoor/outdoor run and that they generally board close to 100 dogs during the holidays and to get my reservations in early. When I asked how many indoor/outdoor runs they have, they said 52. I then found out, from a friend, that they board the smaller breeds in cages and turn them loose with the other "caged" boarders. What happened to "each pet that stays with us has their own spacious indoor and outdoor kennel space?" How do I know whether or not my pet is receiving a "run" or a "cage?" Law's just doesn't sound like the kind of place that I would trust with my "loved one."

Hope Sam gets to feeling better!

Ratings_icons Kennel at Law's Country Kennel at your own risk!

We had a great time at Potato Creek State Park until we got home. We took Sam our dog to Law's Country Kennel for 2 days. When we got home we had a message on our answering machine from Law's that Sam went to the emergency Veterinary Clinic. We were told that he was trying to climb the fence in his pen which is only 4 feet tall with a wood cover over it. It also has a 'Guillotine door made of steel'. He caught his toe, which had to be amputated, and somehow cut his tail off at the end. Did that guillotine door slam somehow and cut Sam's tail off and severe his back toe? Was there another dog in the kennel next to his? Did that dog bite his tail and Sam tried to climb out? He had his toe amputated and $900 later we have him back to take to the vet the next day and have them look at his tail! Law's says they don't ask for emergency numbers because their clients are on vacation, but I don't think making a $900 decision for their clients, is the right thing to do either! I asked Law's for help in paying the bill also, and all I got in response was 'well, you signed the paper!'. I don't think this is a very safe place to take your animal. Just look at Sam now, the toeless and the tailless!

Ratings_icons Not the best place around...

Joan S.

Very dishonest business. I was referred by a friend, and will never go back. My dog stayed about a week. We we went to pick him up, he was much thinner than when we dropped him off. But half of his food was missing, and we sent a new bag of food....that just does not make sense. But it gets better... We also sent a new box of treats, that were not given back to us. I had to go back in and ask for them. The gal behind the counter stumbled upon words, made excuses, left the office for what seemed to be an eternity just to bring me my dogs treats. We were also over charged for the yard play and walks, which we were never refunded for. While I waited for my dogs treats, I heard a worker mention that there were no more needles for insulin for a particular dog. The same gal hollered back to tell the worker "use the same needle twice". Um, is there something wrong with that? Would YOU use the same needle twice to administer any kind of injection for yourself?? Needles dull after the first use and not sterile anymore. I was under the impression when we toured that certified personnel worked here, especially when working around controlled substances. Not the case.

Law's does have it's pros: being out in the countryA business that is not honest, "sterile", and does not look you in the eye when doing business should not be in the business of taking care of your "family members".

Accountability... replied on 07/07/08
Thanks Joan for your feedback. We do acknowledge that it is at times difficult to keep the weight on each boarder considering the amount of activity that occurs daily. We truly attempt to be aware of each boarder's condition, and do our very best to help each pet adjust and learn the nature of kenneling. I cannot explain you receiving back a half bag of food. We are wondering if your name was not on it. We do occassionally have many boarders that are fed similar brands of food. Also, we do tend to refill food bowls with fresh food if our boarders are being picky eaters. We apologize if you were overcharged for some yard play or nature walks. We would be glad to refund you, considering there was obiviously a misunderstanding on what you elected your pet to receive. In regards to the insulin injection, all syringes are kept sanitized by remaining in our refrigerators. Having to use one for a second time was probably necessary due to the obvious shortage, and considering the pet's dependence. Again, we appreciate your candor, and look to address each matter and improve our services.
Ratings_icons A great place to board your pet!

I love that Law's is located out in the country in Roanoke. It seems like such a relaxing atmosphere! The animals are always kept clean and well attended to. The staff is wonderful.

Ratings_icons Very friendly

Anonymous

Laws Country Kennel has wonderfully friendly staff. They cater more to the upper class residents, but they do not look down on middle class customers. Their prices seem a bit steep, but they do exercise great care in the services they provide. We took our dog to them many times for grooming services. They always did a great job and always showed great care in keeping the cutomer, employee and pet all safe.
