I would recommend home-schooling over Jefferson Middle School if that was your only choice. Though we had several intelligent teachers, they cannot compensate for the utter lack of leadership at the administrative level. The administration was non-responsive to issues of bullying, verbal harassment, vulgarity, inconsistent disciplinary processes and lack of prompt and thorough parental contact. When we tried to have conversations about any issues, here is what we heard: some of our students come from tough neighborhoods; some of the parents of these student don't monitor what they watch on tv; these students have a tough home life to deal with and they bring their garbage to school. So, rather than having the school be in charge of enforcing high standards, they allowed "low" standards of anonymous homes to dictate what happens during the school day. Does this make sense? No wonder so many people have left our FWCS schools. We withdrew our son at the end of 6th grade and, hindsight being 20/20, realize that we should have done so at the end of his first month. By the way, he is happily enrolled at Howe Military School where is is honors/high honors, participating in all three athletic seasons and generally having a great year. We notified Jefferson Middle School that we were doing this.....but they didn't notice. We received an automated phone call two full weeks into the school year this fall that told us he was truant! Pretty sad. What if he was lying in a ditch, truant, a runaway? We wouldn't trust another child to this system ever again. They don't even realize kids are missing for two full weeks? Ridiculous.
