Life Savers!!!!!!
by angellla c.
I spent the weekend at the emergency clinic for my cat who eat string that got caught up in her intestines. They would not see her because I would not be able to pay for it all at once. I did not have $1500 so they basically told us to take her home and see if we can get in to our vet the next day. They also prepared us that she might not make it through the night. We had just moved to Crown Point from TN and did not have a vet. I called several vets in the area and ONLY Crown Point Animal Hospital (Dr. Bochnowski) would see her. I called hysterical and told them what was going on, and they do not take payment arrangement either (just like all the others), but Dr. Bochnowski thought with her heart and not her wallet and was not going to let an animal die because I do not have money. I can not tell you how it made me feel and I owe this women more than just a bill, I owe her my cats life! My cat is in recovery right now and expected to make a full recovery! Thank you so much Crown Point animal hospital. Thank you!

not animal friendly
by Courtney S.
My experience at the Crown Point Animal Hospital this past year, was in fact the WORST one I have yet encountered. My pets vet. Dr. Kelly returned my calls about my animal's blood test results almost a month after they were taken. My precious dog was violently ill, she could hardly stand up on her own. I was told there was nothing wrong with my dog and just to keep an eye on her. The place is very poorly run and it always smells of cat urine every time you enter the building. I was very disappointed that the owner who is Dr. Kelly could not return my calls and had what she called a tech call me,who could not properly answer my questions. I feel that during my pet's visit she was treated poorly and not cared for properly. It is a very unprofessional working environment for a Veterinary Clinic. I for one will never step foot into that building ever again.

Good, but...

This was many years ago, but the same vets still practice here.
My 15 year old female cat was in the middle-stage of kidney disease/failure. The animal hospital I had gone to before wasn't answering all the questions (or I just wasn't listening, in denial).
So I took her to Crown Point to learn if anything else could be done to "help" her.
The vet (Dr. K) recommended doing a barium enema and xray of the entire digestive system. She said this was a simple procedure and wouldn't be hard on my cat.
It was a horrible experience. The procedure DID traumatize my cat, and the effects of the barium lasted several days, not hours like the doctor had said. I'll never let that be done to any animal again.
I'm sure the vet meant well, but I feel she underplayed the reprecussions of this procedure for the ill pet.
Now, in 2007, I have a friend who takes her 4 cats to Dr. K, only. She has one which is diabetic and has developed a cancerous growth on his mouth. Over the past year he has lost over half his weight. My friend is beside herself with worry, but trusts Dr. K's advice. The doctor told her that if she wasn't ready to make a decision, the cat wasn't suffering and could be cared for longer.
I'm sorry, but that cat IS suffering. It is shut in a small room alone, to protect it from the stronger, healthier cats. The poor thing is skin and bones, and having once had longish hair, now has mats all over. He hasn't been able to clean himself well in nearly a year. My friend thinks that because he will still eat, that he still has good quality of life.
I feel that Dr. K did a disservice by not advising euthanasia. Yes, it's a tough decision to face, but this animal's discomfort far out- weighs that. She knows he cannot be saved (the cancer is untreatable) yet she allows him to continue to suffer. He is 14 years old and has had a good life. Prolonging it is not doing him any good, and the situation is unhealthy for the other cats AND the owner, IMO. -- P. Valentine

It's a little tricky to get to. It's located behind Taco Bell - turn in at Jewel and turn right again and wind around by car wash.
The front office is not too big, but clean and neat. They have evening and Saturday hours. It's not their fault, but when I first moved out here this was the first vet I tried. They told me my dog had heartworms. And that southern lake county is the heartworm capital of the midwest! When the treatment began I was devastated, but they took good care of both me and the dog. They were caring and concerned. They did a good job of saving my dog's life! Pricing was high not just for the heartworm treatment, but shots, etc.
