Our first experience with this clinic was outstanding. Our young cat became quite ill and we obviously need to have him checked. By good fortune, we chose to stop at Parrett. The cat was immediately attended to by Dr. Carrie Ullmer, who showed kindness and concern. I also had a conversation with Dr. Hoeffler during the visit, and he could not have been nicer. From reading some of the comments posted here, I'm not sure we could be talking about the same person. He has a great reputation in town. Prices were reasonable and stated up front. Once a proper diagnosis was made, many of the planned tests were cancelled and we were only charged for what was truly necessary. A follow-up visit today ended with the same result. I appreciate their flexibility in allowing me to walk-in with very limited wait.

Dr. H. is a competent vet. we used him for many years and i always felt as if he had our pets best interest at heart. however, after some miscommunication with another vet i was then treated with a level of hostility from him that truly took my breath away. i can only say that what he said and how he acted was unprofessional to a degree that really made me question his judgement. i can no longer take my pets to the clinic because the security i felt concerning their welfare as well as my respect for him as a human being evaporated in that moment. i have since heard instances similar from other people who also no longer attend this clinic. i would say that for routine veterinary care they are capable as most places, but their standard of care is subject to the mood of the day. for me--i need to be able to have confidence that whenever i take my pet to the doctor my animal will be cared for with complete integrity--and part of that includes listening to me and accepting that my concern for my pet's health is equal to or greater than theirs. i cannot entrust the life and health of a beloved animal who can't speak for itself to anything or anyone less than that.

Dr. Hoeffler is the best vet I have ever had for my animals. He truly communicates with them. Sometimes I have to remind him that I am in the room, because he is on his hands and knees on the floor talking to one of my dogs. I cannot say enough about the care he gave my Bear, right to the end. He insisted on carrying her body to my car, and he shrouded her in purple, because he said, "That is what Bear told me she wanted." I am tearing up yet again. Great vet, great person!

I have just finished reading all of the reviews. The people that say Dr. Hoeffler is rude and abrasive must be talking about some other
"Dr. Hoffler", certainly not the one I know. We brought our dog from NIles and got the best treatment I have ever got from any Vet. I am in my seventies and have been to many vets over the years but I have NEVER met one as kind , knowledgeable and professional as
Dr. Hoeffler. We had been told by 2 vets here that our 4 year old
dog had a hematoma and that his body would absorb it it time. After waiting a year it did not get smaller but got bigger, One day I ran into a friend that suggested we take him to Dr. Hoeffler. She had been taking her 2 Poodles there for years and said he was the best and the prices were reasonable.. I was a little hesitant as it is 35 miles but thought I would get another opinion. I called and made an appointment. It was the best experience I have ever had with any vet. The office was spotless and the girls at the front desk were kind and helpful. I wish I could find a doctor that treats humans the way Dr. Hoeffler does (both dogs and humans). He listened attentively and kindly told us that we had been misinformed, that our dog (Fuzzy) needed to have the lump removed and since we had driven 35 miles we could leave him and he would do it the next day. He also told us (not a bit of rudeness) thar our dog was morbidly obese ,and took the time to explain to my husband how important it was for Fuzzy to loose about 25 pounds. He did the surgery and removed a four and a half pound
fatty tumor. He had heartworm test, parasite screening, lyme test
nails trimmed , antibiotics, and a half page of other things plus kept him there for three weeks while he lost another 12 pounds. He had wonderful care and we went twice a week to check on him. I might mention ( for the person that said Dr. Hoffler used fishing line to sew up his surgeries) that Fuzzy had 36 stainless steel staples for his incision.
We picked him up yesterday and he had looked so much better , even had a bath. We were told what the price would be before the surgery. and there were NO changes. $303.75. I couldn't believe
it. We did pay extra (not much) for the additional days he was there.
I think Dr. Hoeffler is the best vet, and human, that I have met in a long time. I would recommend him to everyone.
I would give him 10 stars if I could.

Dr. Hoeffler does care about animals and is very knowledgable. But do not expact him to act as such towards humans. He has very little people skills and actually seems to highly dislike people. Might be why he works with animals. But I would always recommend him for anyone who wants to know what is wrong with their animal and how to correctly and safely treat them. He will not explain the work needed very well, and if you ask too many questions, he will get very annoyed. But he will treat your animals amazingly. My biggest advice to anyone getting ready to use him is to get a detailed invoice of every charge to treat your animal.
Our baby has been sick for a little while now and we have had to bring him back multiple times. The first three times we were there were perfect. Nothing went wrong and the prices were great. However, our last visit was not. Our pet had surgery and we asked how much it would cost to treat our pet, and were told twice "roughly $400." In the following two weeks our pet was there, we called 5 times asking the remaining balance and were told everytime that Dr. Hoeffler handles that and that they did not know, but that we should not worry and that it would be alright. Three days prior to picking our pet up and after asking for the 5th or 6th time, I was told the remaining balance. Needless to say, I was quite surprised to hear it was more than double the price we were told. I now understood why I was not told the remaining balance because more than $500 of fees that were not discussed with me were now added. They had more than ample chances to explain to me that extra fees were going to be added during the five previous times that I asked for a list of the charges. I truly felt that they were deceiving us and trying to advantage of us while our emotions were high from the serious illness of our beloved pet. When I finally was able to speak with Dr. Hoeffler he very angerly told me that he knew he was clear and if I am the kind of person that understood it that way, than fine, it was $400. He would not let me explain why I felt that way and he would not explain or break down the costs to me. He just became extremely aggitated and said "Alright good-bye" as angry as he could and slammed the phone. When my husband picked up our baby (I was a little to intimated to go myself) the receptionist was extremely angry as well. No one would explain to my husband what precautions we needed to take with our pet, how to give him his medicine, or any warning signs that we needed to know. Our baby had lost almost a third of his weight and smelled of urine. I would really like to call and ask what I should be looking out for or what behavior is normal, but I am afraid that they will not tell me and will no longer answer any questions I have about this major surgery that he had only two weeks ago. I truly trust Dr. Hoeffler to be the best vet that could help our baby, but I believe that his hatred towards humans will prevent him from being willing to help me. I really hate that this situation has happend and that I will not be able to get the best advice for my baby because the faculty is angry that his mother would not let them take advantage of us.

Recently we had to bring Bandit, our little ferret in for a respiratory problem. Dr Hoeffler is the absolute best. He nailed the problem and prescribed meds for him. I thought we might lose him:-( Took him in today for followup and he got a clean bill of health. Not bad for an almost 4 yr old ferret.
The staff are great. They are all to be commended! Very rarely do you get customer service like you do at Parrett Veterinary Clinic. There is a vet around the corner from here, but we are happy to drive the 20 plus miles!!! 5 Stars!!!

A few weeks ago I picked up a kitten for a friend of mine for she had to leave town. I knew nothing of this kitten as far as this vet clinic knew. They knew nothing about me, for I wasn't the one that took the kitten in the day before. I told them this. Never did I talk or see the vet. I was told the kitten had a debridement, but wasn't asked if I knew what that was. I was never shown where it was. I was never given any directions, such as keeping the area clean. I never even saw the kitten. They took my carrier in the back put the kitten in and brought it back to me. If i hadn't of went to vet tech school I would have been completely lost. They gave me incorrect information about the kittens age and nevered offered a vet consult. I was just someone off the street helping a friend. It was ver unprofessional and I will never bring any of my animals here.

We live half-way between Bremen and Bourbon, IN. There are vets in both of those cities, but we take our pets to Parrett's. We have eleven house cats, two dogs, and too many barn cats to count. Price HAS to be a consideration when we are giving so many well-deserving animals a good home. While I find Dr. Hoeffler's bedside manner with his human customers abrasive at times, he really does care about the well-being of his animal customers. When he called me "stupid" when he believed I bought into the marketing ploys of dog food producers, I was quite offended. He went on a rant about how stupid the breeder was where we acquired our last dog, even though I tried to explain that the dog was the product of a male and female dog of a co-worker of my husband. They were not breeders, but he went on about how breeders lie about everything, etc. I just shut-up and let him rant so that I could get out of there. Then there are days where the guy is oozing positivity and is extremely chummy and talkative. I think he is bipolar or something. We put up with it to save money, and our pets are well taken care of. The office staff varies between helpful and indifferent at times. The place is extremely clean. Because you don't have to have an appointment, the wait time can exceed an hour before you get in. Once you're in a room though, don't think you're next or anything. The wait in the room could be extensive as well. What is great about this guy's approach is that he'll try the easiest and less costly approaches to address a problem before he dives into the more difficult and costly procedures. This had not been my experiences with the vets we've gone to in both Bremen and Bourbon.

My dogs have been patients of Dr Hoeffler since they were pups. He truly shows love to your animals. I cannot say anything but good things about him. The front desk staff has been nothing but helpful. The office is so clean you would never know animals go through it.

It has been about 6 years since I have been to the Parrett office. But, I have had nothing but good experiences there. They were really kind when we had to put our dog down after we had him for many years. I know that everyone has their own experiences and expectations, we need to remember our pets first not our impression of people. Now I am asking my boyfriend to take his dog to this office and I hope his experience with Parrett is as good if not better than mine was. A smile is contagious try it, you might just get a smile back!

Parrett Veterinary Clinic is a friendly, caring, human/animal friendly place! We have been coming here for the past 4/5 years..having been told about it from a friend in South Bend. Yes, it is a drive, but well worth it. Dr. H has a passion for animals..as do the ladies that assist him in the office. We appreciate his directness, and his no messing with letting you know what is right and what is wrong with your care of the animal. Sometimes we humans can be a little ignorant when it comes to care of other species and having a person that will give you a straight answer and options for treatment..well I think that is a wonderful trait to have in your vet. We like the walk in arrangement but, they also do take appointments. Prices are very reasonable, the ability to get good prices on meds..a bonus.

Thank you Dr. H and staff at Parrett.

How to start this. We have taken our dog to him for everything. The last time we went he told us we were neglecting our dog because he had a ear infection which we took care of. Well, no my dog has gotton very sick and they would not let us bring him in without a minimum of $500.00 down "no exceptions". I don't know about everyone else out there that has a family but we don't get paid until next week and even asked them if they could board him until payday and we would pay the bill. They would not do it. The girls that answer the phones are the rudest people I have spoke to. We have found a vet that has feelings and is willing to help us out. What they need to remember is we all care about animals. And the ones trying to take care of them can get no help without paying a deposit. I will never recommend this vet ever.

I have experienced the unprofessional, inconsiderate and incompitent ways of this Doctor and his staff. I will never go back and tell all who ask of me what a horrible experience I have had with this clinic. Over the years my complaints which are many range from out dated drugs, charged in correctly for services, rudeness of staff, and when my animal did unfortunatly have to stay there when I picked him up he smelled of urine and had lost weight and had stool matted to his rear end. That visit was our last how would they like to sit in their own urine I bet they wouldn't have liked that very much. This is very unfortunate because this didn't use to be the ways of this clinic. They wont be getting anymore chances from me and my beloved animals.

One month they quoted a test for 380.00 and 9 months later the same test cost 155.00 and also included an x-ray of internal organs. Front desk is insensitive, received different price quotes for same test, over medicate, questionable charging practices, so caution when going here for anything serious other than nail clippings. We were warned. Will NEVER use them again.

This is the very best Vet we have ever been too. We used to use Kryder's (whata joke). Dr Hoeffler performed a magnificent ear cropping on our great dane male Judge. I have had this procedure performed many times, but none were as clean, and as perfect like what I received at Parrett Veterinary!! The staff is very kind, and well educated in their field. What else could you ask for!!! ***** FIVE STARS

Ok the prices there are only slightly better than the vets in the South Bend area, I say this because really the only thing that I find is cheaper is their office call fee. I have to agree that since they moved to the new building service has severely declined. The staff there, including the vets themselves, are condescending and rude more than not but they truly do have your pets best interest at heart. Dr Hoeffler is very abrasive and not great with pet owners but he TRULY loves the pets. Overall they are better priced than most vets, and the walk-in availability is very nice!

I live in the Chicago suburbs but my wife comes from South Bend and has been a customer at Parrett's for many years. We have two dogs, four cats and a rabbit. When it is time for vaccine shots we save about $200 on the visit by bringing our dogs and cats at the same time, compared to what we would pay here. That is counting the gas from driving there.

Since they moved to the current building, service has gone down a little, and not all vets are good and have good bed-side manners. I would highly suggest to ask for Dr. Douglas A. Hoeffler. He is very good, but more than that, he is passionate and dedicated about helping the animals and their owners, and is very kind to all.

To finish, the disgruntled reviews about Parrett's are well founded, but slightly misplaced. Vets are human people just like us, and can have bad days. Same with their helping staff. Even if a vet is rude to you, don't forget that they almost always have the best interest in your animal. After all, they normally did not become vets if they wanted to make money; they became vets become because they loved animals and wanted to help them. If they feel, mistakenly or not, that you mistreated your animal, they may be inclined to teach you better manners. And don't forget that even though you may be good towards animals, there are a lot of people out there that treat their animals like nothing more than a toy to be disposed of after a while. And believe me, that is one of the things vets hate the most. You should ask them how many people want to have their animal euthanized after they decided they were tired of taking care of it.

So when you go there, bring a smile, be understanding and show that you care for your pets. You will certainly be rewarded. If if they have a bad day or if you don't like the vet that is helping you, go for Dr. Hoeffler the next time. It is not worth paying more somewhere else when you can have one of the best at Parrett's.

I take all of my animals there. They are good to them and treat them the way any animal should be treated. I drive there from South Bend, but it is worth it. They understand your concern and call you after your pets surgery to let you know that they are okay. Its relieving for the rest of the night knowing your pet is okay. They are not the fastest especially for walk-ins, but they are not ridiculously slow either. Great prices. They don't overcharge like the vets in South Bend and Mishawaka do.

I have been going to this vet for many years and since they have gone into the new building the prices have become the same or higher than places in Mishawaka and Granger.

The nice thing about this Clinic is you don't need an appointment. Unless you make several calls to check prices you will probably save money here.

A nice place to take your dog for fun is Camp K9 at 1817 Elder Rd. in Mishawaka. My dogs love it there.

It been a few years.. but when i took my pet there they were very good with him. only bad thing is my dog barks alot. It was October and raining and he started barking and i was asked to wait outside with him and listen for our name on the PA. thing is i could have sat in the car but then wouldnt be able to hear. or stand outside in the rain and get drenched. well after 2 hours my son went to see about our turn and they had forgotten about us since we were not inside. it took 4 hours to have my pet seen... i was disappointed. but the price is right.

I took my cat there to get spaded..They told me to call back in the evening to check on her..I called back and got there answering service, who had no information on my cat...I picked her up on Saturday and my poor baby was in her crate with the towels I put in all peed up..I was very disappointed with there services. Sure there cheap but then again you get what you pay for....I took her to our regular vet to have her stitches removed the following week. I was told by others that they had the same problem with there services. I will never take another animal there!

We drive thirty miles to take our pets: dogs, cats, and guinea pigs to see Dr. Hoeffler. Everyone at the clinic is very friendly and so willing to take the time to explain everything to you regarding your pet. I always feel like a better educated pet owner when I leave. Dr. Hoeffler has even neutered one of our guinea pigs! Who knew! When it was time to put down one of our beloved dogs, they were so kind and compassionate. They take care of you like family. I can't see enough good about this place!

We have been taking our pets to Parrett's for years and have always been happy with the service and prices they've provided. They have a friendly staff and were very compassionate when we had to have a pet euthanised. I would definitely recommend Parrett's to anyone.

Parrett Veterinary Clinic is wonderful! The clinic is always clean and neat and the staff is wonderful not only to the animal 'patients' but to their owners as well. They are one of the few vet offices in the area to accept 'unusual' pets as clients. My daughter takes her guinea pig up there to be seen for regular check ups and to have his nails clipped also. The price is so cheap..only $7.00 for check up and nail clipping! The Drs and staff are sooo caring towards the animals and really are concerned..not just treating them as numbers and hustling them through. They take the time to answer any and all questions you have and you never feel 'rushed' to get out of the office. I would recommend them to everyone who has pets.
