My computer wouldn't power up so i took it to the Best Buy "geeks"--it was late and best buy was still open. The tech looked at my computer, checked the connections, then concluded that the motherboard was fried. I asked him to check the power supply--he did, I think--and he said that the power supply was fine. I took it somewhere else and found out that the power supply (not the motherboard) needed to be replaced. This fix cost me $40. Best Buy and their geek squad have definitely earned the negative press they've received.

Best Buy Somewhere Else

Ridiculously high prices for merchandise of mediocre quality. Everything they sell can be bought online for (generally) half the price or less, including shipping. Store personal are eager to help but often condescending until you prove you know what you're talking about.

HORRIBLE PLACE!! STAY AWAY FROM BEST BUY!!!

I got DSL and I was told that I needed a network card. So, I called Best Buy to see if they could look at it and see if I have a network card in the computer. They said to bring it in and they could look at it and see. I took it into the store and I was told to wait until a tech could look at it. I waited for 45 min and then they told me that it needed a network card and I had to leave it. So I left it so they could install one. I called every other day for the next week to see if it was done. Finally 8 days later they called and said it was done. I went to pick it up and they charged $100 to put the network card in. I thought it was high but I dont know a lot about computer so I paid it. I took it home and it started locking up so I called Best Buy and they said they would send a guy out to look at it. A guy came out and said he didnt know what the problem was and I needed to take it back into the store. So that day I took it into the store and they told me they would call when they find something out. Three days later they called and said I had viruses and I need to get it cleaned. I never had a problem with the machine but I said to go ahead and clean it but I a lot of data that I needed and I couldnt lose. They said they could back up data but it would cost more. I said go ahead and I would pay for the backup. Two weeks later they called and said it was done. I went and pick it up and the bill was $387. I was upset it was that high and they never called or said the bill was going to be that much. I could have bought a new computer for the price I have paid already. But they wouldnt go done on the bill so I paid it. I took it home, it locked up again, and they reloaded it and none of my data or programs was there. I called and asked where my data was and also where my office program is. They said they had to get back with me. I waited a week and called and talked to the manager and he finally told me that they lost the data and they cant install office because of pirating. I had office on there before they looked at it. They refused to give me a refund even on the data backup that they didnt do. I took it to another computer store on Tenth Street that told me I have two network cards now and the network card they sold me wasnt needed and it was bad. The network card they put in was bad and caused the locking up issue. They installed office that I had on there and help me get everything working again. Also they didnt charge me because of the entire problem I had with Best Buy. I will never go to Best Buy again the prices are high the service is horrible. If you want your computer to work STAY AWAY FROM BEST BUY!!! They dont care about you, your needs, or your data.

This is a well merchandised electronics store. Employees are helpful but somewhat hard to find at times. Sale prices are average. Good central location with easy access off street.
