I'm almost done!

by Anna B.

I really like Medtech. I attend at the Greenwood campus. I have been here for almost 4 semesters. We just got new space and it is very nice. The school feels less crowded and I am so happy with the teachers I currently have. They are making learning fun again. The first semester I started, school was a rough transition. I was not used to studying and balancing my school, work, and family. I finally feel like I am getting in the groove of things. I am glad I started and stuck with it. Only 2 more semesters to go.

New Faculty

by Jamie C.

As a nursing student at MedTech, I am very busy with class work of course. I am concerned about some the the faculty and the turnover rate. There are several new faculty again this semester. Some good, some not so good. Has anyone had any experience with Mrs. Williams? I heard her style is sort of harsh. Any comments?

Medtech College is ok.

by T J.

I was an instructor at Medtech a little over a year ago at the Indianapolis campus. It was a mix of good and bad.

The big problem was that it is a meat grinder, just get 'em enrolled, get their money, and plop the students in to class.

Some students require prep work, a couple of weeks to catch up on things before joining the regular classes.

So, again, get yourself ready first if your a "rusty" student, and you might do ok at Medtech.

Not everyone has to like Medtech and feel like everyone else

by anon ..

It seems like if a person has a bad experience and shares it, others seem to be irritated by it. Not everyone is going to like Medtech and feel as if their experience is good. I am also tired of hearing that you may have a boss that you don't like. If I have a boss I don't like, I get a paycheck and have the choice of getting a different job. I'm paying 900 dollars to attend the class and if the teacher is not qualified to teach, he/she should not be there. I'm paying Medtech for a service and I should get my money's worth. I graduate in April 10 and I have liked the college. I have had a problem with the notorius teacher at Greenwood but overall I like the school. I believe everyone has a right to their opinion.

Medtech College is what you make it.

by M S r.

I would have to agree with Anon P. THIS IS COLLEGE! I am half way through the RN program at the Indianapolis campus and overall I have had nothing but a great experience. Sure, there are some teachers that I might not see exactly eye to eye with but that is what makes us all unique individuals. Teachers will have their own styles of teaching as we students will have our own styles of learning. At the end of the day, it is about studying hard, paying attention in class and eventually getting my license. I am here for one reason: to become the best nuurse I can be. I don't have time to get caught up in any negativity coming from "whiny" students. Rules are rules and I understand why they are put into place. We are going to be future medical professionals and the places we work will probably have even more rules and regulations that will be enforced. Last, I would like to thank MedTech for this opportunity. Before I learned about MedTech I was on a waitlist for 2 years not knowing if I would ever get into nursing school. In about a year I expect to graduate and look forward to the many opportunites that I will have.

Medtech College needs students that don't whine!

by Anon P.

Wow. Impressive. You can write the word "Douche" in a review of a college. Then, you expect other people to come to this site and take what you wrote seriously? If you want your comments to be heard, write something constructive. I am almost finish with the nursing program (RN) at Medtech. Let me list the good and the bad. Good: Most of my teachers. You will never like all your teachers or all your bosses but I have learned so much more than I ever thought possible. I really enjoyed the pace of the program. It went by fast. Lastly, I don't know about you, but I am ready for my boards when they happen. Look up the pass rates at other local schools. Then stop complaining that you're at Medtech. Bad: other students acting ridiculously immature. Sadly, Medtech is not as descrimnatory as schools like IU or U of I. They give everyone a shot to get an education. This means good students like myself have to sit in class with a bunch of whiners. I sit in class with people who don't get it---THIS IS COLLEGE! What do you think this is, a day at the spa? Should Medtech make accomodations to homework assignments, clinicals, and schedules just to please 10 people that can't get their act together? This has been very frustrating. If I were the staff of Medtech...I would quit too. Cut the school some slack, graduate, shut your mouth, get a job. I would love to see some of these students at work. I bet they get fired on the first day.

Too much bad juju

by Student A.

First off to all the grads of Medtech, congrats. You couldnt have gotten where you are without working hard. I'm a current student at Medtech Greenwood. I do believe alot of the negative comments on here are from students who like to stir the pot, and who aren't happy without some kind of drama in their life. However, some of the things that are going on should be acknowledged and fixed ASAP. When you fire an instructor because they have to much on their plate, don't hire one to replace them that is a mirror image. As for the scheduling, don't piss and moan when you screw up a persons schedule and then have to fix it. I have heard first hand some of the problems some of the students are having with the scheduling and it's ridiculous. However, some people should realize they are there to get an education. This is college, it's going to be tough, there's going to be alot of homework, and you are going to have to study even when you never had to before. If you have a problem with what you are experiencing, than try to fix it, don't run your mouth to other students and not try correct the problem. Some growing up needs to be done by a good portion of the students...and staff.

Drama!

by STudent X.

This is to funny! I am sitting in our computer lab reading these comments. I like the comment about go to harrison college and then the website is listed at the bottom. I wonder did someone from that school write it? I have been at this school for almost 2 quarters. I have not had any problems like this. I know the schools dean left but not the way all these comments say!!!! Holy cow! Put a bunch of ladies in a school together and watch the rumors start.

I go to Medtech

by Nicole R.

I am going to school at Medtech right now. Some of my classmates told me about Insider Pages, so I wanted to see what was on here. I wish Insider pages would delete some of these comments, especially the ones that list names of teachers and students. The unprofessional, so called ghetto students these comments complain about are written by students that are unprofessional themselves. I had one of the teachers the comments mention. I learned alot from her. She was a tough teacher and she made you work for your grade, but isn't that what college is about? If one of these students goes to work at a hospital will they get on St. Vincent's Insider page and bash their boss? Will they call out a rude patient by name? Will they say "Don't ever take care of Jane Smith, she is a terrible patient. What a joke!" There are alot of negative comments on here that seem pretty stupid. Medtech is a school and a business. People (teachers or administration) sometimes find other jobs and leave an organization. Are they not allowed to do this? Does that mean the school isn't accreditated? Does that mean I won't find a job when I am done with school? I really don't think so. I think people need to quit complaining so much, go to class to learn, stop spreading rumors, and get the most out of a very short education. How do you expect to be placed in a good externship or job if you have attitude problems. You are giving the rest of us a bad name!

Medtech College is a credible training institute

by M G.

After reading these reviews I think it is absolutely necessary I defend a college that has good programs and an extremely knowledgeable faculty. I am a local health care professional and actually taught billing and coding classes at MedTech for 3 quarters. Clearly, the students posting comments regarding accreditation are not privy to the type of college MedTech is. Schools, such as MTC, are highly regulated by their accrediting bodies. These schools have graduation rates, placement rates, and assessments for all new students. These schools do not accept everyone. What I challange students to ask themselves is this: who should be denied an education if they are willing to pay for it? Should we not let someone attend college because they are poor, a single mother, or "Ghetto?" Or gets to make up the rules about a school's student population. MedTech College is regulated by the ACICS. Look the instituion up. They regulate many, many different schools and answer directly to the US Department of Ed. If MedTech College was lying about their accreditation or placement rates, they would not stay open. Their nursing programs are also highly regulated and legitimate. I work at a hospital in Indianapolis. There are 3 MedTech grads (that I know of) working here. We will be happy to hire their RN's when they graduate if they are the right candidate for the position. DO not use a web site such as this to do your research on your impending education. Call accrediting bodies. Call the Commission on Proprietary Education for Indiana. Call health care professionals. Call graduates. Don't use disgruntled opinions to create facts.

Medtech College has successful GRADS!

by Sharon H.

I recently graduated from MedTech College/Greenwood. Many of my fellow graduates have told me about Insider Pages and all the negative things being written about MedTech. I am dissapointed that students would say things like I have read here. MedTech was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. Yes, it was hard. No, I did not always like all my teachers or classmates. There is no such thing as a perfect school, perfect teachers, or perfect classmates. You get what you put into it! I started at the Greenwood campus when the school was fairly new. There was transition and a little bit of instability, but that never changed the fact that my teachers wanted me to learn, the school's accreditation, or my abiltity to suceed in my new field. I know exactly why they aren't enrolling new nurses right now. There is no lab sapce at the school! The program isn't suspended, my aunt is a student in their nursing program! I say for anyone that wants an education that will put them in the medical field, this is a good school. Call the director of career placement and ask her how many of my graduating class she has placed. She doesn't have to give a made up number, because the real number is awesome. I let my new job speak for the type of education I recieved. Everyone else should do the same. Will you still be complaining when you are working in the medical field making better money than you were before?

Medtech College is a good school

by K M.

I am a graduate from medtech @ Greenwood. Let me give you some facts about the school. 1st: the school is fully accredited and anyone that says otherwise needs to figure out what accreditation really means, because you obviously don't know. 2nd: I was in the Medical Billing and Coding program and I had wonderful instructors. They were all really successful in the coding field, good at teaching a subject that can be hard, and pushed us to be professionals. 3rd: I was placed into a job 3 days after I graduated. This is not an entry level job. I have a well paying job at a major facility. My hospital was excited about all I knew and learned from my program. 4th: During school, Medtech always had someone there to help me if I had a serious problem. Anyone that would call out teachers and students by their names on a website has no credibility. I encourage anyone that reads these reviews to consider the motivations behind angry posts.

Medtech College Greenwood

by c w.

THIS SCHOOL IS A JOKE! They cant keep a dean or instructors. I had an instructor fall asleep in the middle of class, they replaced her the next week just to give us an instructor that doesnt like or know how to do dosage calculations. Dont be honest with an instructor when they ask what you think about something cause they will write you up for it. They have students waiting to take the certification exam, but they cant cause the school is not accredited, like they tell you when you enroll. The student advisory board, what a joke, they are just kiss asses that can do or say what they want (lynn henery). There is some great instructors (Lori Calvert, Joan Edwards, Joan Champaign), thats a short list. Im not a student that shows up and struggles, im on the deans list and honors. If i wasnt a short program i wouldnt have started, but i did and im getting ready to graduate. Hopefully i will be able to take the certification test and find a job.

Medtech College is an excellent opportunity

by Anonymous R.

Hello, I am a previous nursing instructor from Medtech College. Everything that is being said has no real clout. Medtech has worked very, very hard to pursue NLN. Please REMEMBER: this is a voluntary accreditation. It has no bearing on whether a student has recieved a solid education. The hospitals in Indianapolis are very political. They have used NLN as and excuse to help the colleges they have long standing relationships with and keep short-term schools like Medtech from conquering the nursing market. Medtech College will recieve NLN. I have no doubt of this. What students need to keep in mind is there are other cities and towns surrounding Indianapolis that could care less where you went to school, as long as you have your state boards completed. Wow, we spend so much time being so narrow minded instead of focusing on what's really important. Medtech gives students an OPPORTUNITY to recieve an education that other schools won't let you have. Currently, I teach at Ivy Tech in their nursing program. We accept a limited number of students per year. HUNDREDS on students take class after class and DO NOT get accepted, nor will they ever. Medtech College is a different type of education, a different way to pursue a degree. You are the only one that can make your educational experience positive or negative. Please remember that. I left Medtech on good terms. It is hard to see students grumbling about an institution that gives them a chance they wouldn't recieve anywhere else. My biggest problem was not the administration at Medtech. It was not the quality of the education or the curriculum. It was some of the students and their attitudes.

Medtech College is my home!

by Andy C.

I atteneded Medtech for about 6 months but was unable to keep going because I just had a baby. I loved going to school there. I had days when I did not like class but alot of that was because I never liked studying or reading. I am going to return as soon as my son is old enough to attend daycare. People are lying when they say the nursing program is suspended there. They ran out of space in the building and didn't want to put people in clinicals. People are full of it! Sheesh. :(

Medtech College is not that bad!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Angie R.

I have been reading all the comments about Medtech and I am really sad to see what has been written. It shounds like alot of pissed off students taking their frustrations out on a school that does the best they can with students that don't know how to act right. I have attended both the Indianapolis and the Greenwood campus. I like the teachers a little better at Indy and I like the students more at Greenwood. I will be graduating from Indy in just a few months. My externship has been AMAZING and I have learned so much. My employer is talking about hiring me when I am done. I think it is stupid for people to say all these things. Hello! Have you ever been to college before? This is a medical college...of course you can't have drinks in a classroom. You couldn't take a drink into a hospital lab in the real world, right? The thing about Medtech is, anytime I ever had a problem, I got to talk with someone who listened. Go to IU and see if you can find someone to talk to. Also, go to IU and see if you can get a job paying 17.00 an hour after only 18 months of school. Please!!!!!!!!!!!

BEWARE OF MS NEALY

by anonmynous A.

The school is not bad, but if you go to Medtech in greenwood you must beware of Ms. Nealy!!! She is very intelligent but not a nice lady. She is egotistical, domineering, talks to you like you are a dog and cannot teach at all! Numerous people have complained about her and they refuse to do anything about her!!!!! I think maybe she's paying them to stay there!!!!

MTC IS NOT AS BAD AS EVERYONE IS SAYING

by Julie A.

I haven't had too many problems. the only problem I really can say I've had is with one teacher. She is very controlling, egotistical an talks to us like dogs. She is highly intelligent but lacks people skills! I don't understand why they keep her and get rid of the teachers that aren't half as bad as her!!!!! She also does not teach very well. Other than that I am having a positive experience and will graduate in April.

FYI

by Sheila C.

I am a nursing instructor in another state. Here are some realities about for profit colleges and nursing programs. First, I agree with the posting by KTa. Second, for profit schools are about making a profit by providing a service. For profit schools are viewed as less than desirable by the state schools because they compete for clinical sites and resources. Many state boards of nursing put up road blocks to make their success difficult and to discourage their entry into nursing education. That being said, Med Tech has probably gone through more hoops than a state not for profit school to provide a nursing program for students. I am bothered by the lack of prerequisites for students. Prerequisites are an indicator of success and most of the classes are designed to provide students with the foundation knowledge to be successful in nursing. Also your credits may not transfer with out them. If they do transfer you will still be required to take them if you want a BSN or MSN in the future. If you do not take them up front you will have to on the back side. I teach at a state tech school and we require our students to be able to write correctly, spell, know grammar and use APA format for all research papers. Preparation is not just to do the task but to understand why you are doing it. I also believe that the BSN should be the minimum goal for all nurses but that there are multiple pathways for getting there, including LPN and ADN programs. By the way, most LPN programs in the US are certificate programs not degree programs. ADN programs are degree and must require some general education to meet the degree requirements. All schools must have 1 to 2 classes of graduates prior to applying for NLN accreditation which becomes retroactive to all prior students. The school needs students to pass the NCLEX in order to stay in business and qualify for NLN accreditation so they must prepare graduates to be successful in licensure or they will not exist. (no profit for the for profit). If a student can not pass the NCLEX I do not want to graduate them because I will not have a job. Med Tech provides an opportunity for students who otherwise would not have the chance for a nursing degree. Not all persons with a 4.0 make good nurses. The profession does not want to lose great nurses because they do not have a 4.0. Med Tech is an opportunity. It is up to the student to take advantage of it. Paying for a class does not guarantee that you will pass it.

Medtech College is expensive and new

by JE J.

I am currently a RN student at The Greenwood Campus. Facts I can attest to are a high turn over rate of instructors, faculty, and office staff. This may be normal but it is problematic for students mid-quarter. The teachers run the gambit from some of the most knowledgable, caring, skilled people I have ever met to people that I honestly do not know what they are doing in front of a class..again this may be normal. The school is on temporary accreditation status with Indiana, and that "may" change after we graduate our first class of RNs. The school is expensive imho. $40k+ for the two year RN program. I knew this when I signed up and weighed it against being wait listed at other schools since Medtech at the time had no wait list. The school is super crazy about rules such as drinking sodas in the hallway...but again I try to remember the various rules no matter how trivial are a way to practice discipline. Many rules are stupid but if you can't follow them how can you be trusted to follow major rules such as infection control as an RN?The school does not have as many financial aid options as a regular college. The real question to ask about medtech is what do they teach you, and are you actually learning to become an RN? the answer is not black and white. I have learned a lot but many of the classes have felt rushed and incomplete. As stated above I am still a student and can not comment on the employment eligibility of medtech graduates. I have heard many rumors that many places may not hire grads from medtech, but until I graduate I can not shed light on this. Would I have rather gone elsewhere...honestly yes, but Medtech offered convenience in being close to home and no wait list. Medtech credits may transfer to some other private colleges (at least one that I checked) but not many. If you just want your RN degree this is not a problem, if you want to go on to a BSN or MSN you may want to consider elsewhere. The only other complaint i have is the newness of the program means things are changed at the drop of a hat from the curriculum to schedules to class times and teachers. Again this may be normal but it does often leave one feeling very confused and worried about if the program will see them through to graduation. My advice to any who go to Medtech is learn all you can, get into study groups with classmates, and try to learn on your own beyond what they expect from you, this should keep you from being shortchanged by instructors who seem to phone in their teaching and don't bother with actually teaching.I hope this helps

I'm taking the chance

by DP C.

I talked to MTC- Indy and was told they can't apply for NLN accreditation until the first class of RN's graduate, which is this year. They will be applying this December. The students who are starting the nursing program at the school right now will be able to graduate at a newly NLN certified school.
Also, Indiana Wesleyan accepts MTC credits so if you can't find a job being a MTC graduate, then transfer your credits over to Indiana Wesleyan and get your BSN. All the hospitals I've talked to (Community, St. Francis, Clarian, and the VA) say they will hire an Indiana Wesleyan graduate but not a Med Tech graduate until they are NLN certified.

I live in Greenwood, but would not dare go to the Greenwood campus. I went in the building to get information and nobody wanted to help me. I was very irriated. I was not allowed to talk to the financial aid counselor until I was a student.. HELLO?! It depends if you take my form of financial (the military will pay for my college) before I decide to apply for the school. I left the building pissed off and called the Indy campus to vent then to ask my questions. They answered everything. Lisa was very kind and has made an exception for me since I will be deploying from August to December to interview for the January class.
I hope I get in. If I can't find a job after I graduate, then I will go on to Indiana Wesleyan and get my BSN. It beats waiting 2 years to get into IUPUI or Ivy Tech.

Big Mistake

by Marie L.

I used to be a student at Medtech and saw this website and had to give the information about why I decided to quit. While starting Medtech I was told I would be able to get a job "anywhere" once I graduated. After calling around to hospitals not only in Indiana, but also out of state I was informed I would not be able to get a job at very many places at all. The only hospitals that would accept their students were extremely small, and Clarian hospitals head of nursing told me they would not be hiring Medtech grads until they were NLN accredited, and also until Medtech proved that they had quality graduates. She also told me that with so many accredited universities trying to get their students into their hospitals they were not likely to accept Medtech grads soon. Medtech is not NLN accredited. If you are going to be an RN then this will be imperative for you to get a job. It is true that they will have a chance to be accredited after they graduate their first class of nurses, but it is not guaranteed. It depends on what their NCLEX pass rates for RN will be and also on them changing their staff as not all of their teachers have Master's degrees which the NLN require and also on them changing their class structure to include required classes for the NLN.
I also had a few extremely poor teachers while there. I had an Anatomy teacher who had never taught Anatomy in her life, and a math teacher who explained to us all that all Medtech cared about was money and that we should "learn our place" and stop complaining about the quality of education we were getting or we would "quickly find ourselves being black listed by the teachers there"
They already got me for 6,000 for 1 semester which was more then my original agreement was with them, they said it " went up" and I had no choice but to pay them.
All of these factors were too much for me to continue. Maybe they will be a good tech school in a few years once they get their NLN license but if you are going for your RN degree I would not risk it. I felt like I didn't have a choice but to go here since it is so hard to get into Nursing school elsewhere, but it was not worth it! I am now in much worse shape then I was with completing my education before. The majority of my classmates felt the same way as well. Please think long and hard before you make the same mistake that I did.

Medtech College is what it is.

by A B.

After investigating the school, I decided that MedTech wasn't for me, as it didn't meet my needs of accepting any credit hours from IU (including such basic classes as English Composition) that were required for MedTech's nursing curriculum. What is interesting, is that all the credit hours would transfer for any of MedTech's OTHER degree programs.

MedTech College is what it is. What is important, is the value placed of it's programs by the individuals that receive the services that MedTech provides. If one desires an ASN with the hopes to transfer earned credits to a Bachelor's program, then MedTech probably isn't the school of choice for you; as it isn't regionally accredited. Likewise, if all one is interested in is obtaining the necessary training for licensure as an RN without any further expectations, then MedTech is probably is one of the many choices that would be acceptable.

However, for what my opinion is worth, after receiving a license to practice a profession, of what value is the parchment? Why limit one's options when something unforeseen, five years down the road, can alter one's career path.

I am currently a student at the Greenwood Campus at MedTech and I have to say, things aren't as bad as people are making it out to be. The administration is horrible, communication is pretty much nonexhistant, and a lot of the students are rude and completely disrespectful. But as far as the programs go, they are good. I haven't had a problem with one professor, and the success rate of students graduating is good. All of the students who have taken the CPC certification exam (for Medical Billing and Coding) have passed from this campus, which is a huge deal. It may not be a number one choice for everyone, but it is a good school if you want an associates degree in a specific field. Remember, we are not training to be doctors or scientists, so don't expect that.

Medtech College is deceiving

by Valerie B.

My daughter and I just withdrew from Medtech in Greenwood. We are so sad that we were mislead. We were told in a flat out lie the credits would transfer. The accredited aspect is a lie.. They are not and will not become regionally accredited. All the time and money and putting up with the bull crap was for nothing. My daughter after going to Medtech for a year is enrolling as a freshman at a real college. The director told her that Medtech is not a college but a career school. Remember that if you are considering going to this school. There are a lot of other reasons I am not happy about this but if the credits don't transfer and most of the companies will not hire you what is the point of going to this school?

Medtech College is accredited

by Sharon C.

About Medtech Nurses not being able to get a job within Clarian: once the first class of RN's graduate, Medtech will be nationally accredited with the National League of Nursing, so new grads from here will be able to get a job within Clarian. I spoke with Human Resources at Carian to verify this. Also spoke with IU Human Resources and they will hire Medtech students right now, since they are accredited with the state, which they are because I spoke with the Indiana State Board of Nursing to verify that. They are also accredited with the educational boards-they have to be to get federal funding. My point is they are legit, so do some research like I did, and don't get caught up in the gossip and rumors. Negative comments on here may cause some people to get discouraged.

Medtech College is low quality, high cost institution!

by Cindy M.

Being at MedTech currently, I have only a few words to describe it: NEEDS IMPROVEMENT. The building the school is in has no proper ventilation, so all those with blood pressure problems or any hormonal issues, and all those that are also normal, will be as hot as hell during the month of May. Really during any time. Today, there was no water in the bathrooms. Last quarter we had 12 weeks of only one out of three elevators working!! The teachers can be late, take long breaks, receive surprise visitors during a regular class time, but students get dropped out and failed if they need to leave early for child care issues, for sickness or issues that are legitimate, and some teachers even get to be unethical, where they address an absent student's issues with the rest of the class. Adults are treated like kindergartners... I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone who's ever been in a civil or normal school! Quality of teaching, lacking, and leaving lots to be desired! IUPUI, Marion College, and Ivy Tech are much better choices!

Medtech College is overrated..bad school for sure

by Lindsay M.

I went to Medtech and I couldn't transfer any of my credits. The internal policy is weird, because it applies to some, and it doesn't apply to others. That school should be under audition. It is a ghetto school.Go to any other school, , but DO NOT try Medtech. You will have the worst time of your life dealing with staff and students as well.

personal opinion

by jane d.

I'm currently a Med tech student. I'm almost finished with my course. This is not a bad school at all. The problem mostly lies with some of the students. It does have some ghetto students. But you have to rise above that. If your better then your typical loud mouth, bitchy, whinny, ghetto type of person, then you'll have no problem. I just over look it. Your in there for a reason and they aren't it. Med Tech has met all my expectations.. it's some of the students that will be your biggest problem.

SHOCKED

by C. S.

I just came across this site for the first time today and cannot believe some of the negative comments I have seen. I currently work as an LPN and make great money and I, without a doubt, owe my success to MedTech. I am a graduate of the LPN program and have recently been accepted to start their RN program. I could have chosen to go elsewhere, however, why would I want to when I had such a positive experience? I realize I can't speak for others, but as far as my experience went, I had knowledgeable instructors that pushed me to do my best. Also, having such a small class size, they always knew my name, even most of the staff knew my name (which is more than I can say for the previous school I attended that made you take a ton of pre-reqs and you still didn't know if you were going to get into the Nursing program) I believe this school genuinely cares about their students and I definitely recommend going here. I am proud to be a returning student to MedTech College.

Very confused by the negative reviews....

by Jenny H.

I am currently a student at MTC and I am very confused by some of the reviews on this site. I have never had an instructor changed on me, I am learning A TON of skills (my program is VERY hands on), the administration is anything by "ghetto" (they are HIGHLY educated and professional) and the students in my class are very respectful. My guess is that these posts are from students that have not done well in classes or that are not able to return...they seem to come more out of anger. The placement rate is very high, I know of NUMEROUS Nursing Graduates that are working in all the major hospitals (the hospitals have even been here for career events and speaking). I would recommend MTC to anyone that is wanting to change their life and get into the nursing/medical field.

Not NLN accredited

by Ali L.

I am not a student of Medtech, but my daughter graduated from the LPN program. I work for Clarian, and she had a interview for a position with a large clinic at IU hospital. But when the recruiter noted that she had attended Medtech, she called and stated that they do not hire Medtech graduates due to the fact that they are not a National League of Nursing accredited school. I spoke with several people in Human Resources regarding this matter. It was very upsetting after spending the amount of money we did and she lost out on an awesome job because of it. Even though they are state and nationally accredited, they will not hire nurses with out the NLN accreditation. Medtech tried to say it was because they were such a new school and it takes years to get that accreditation, but from what I have researched online, the school has to apply for accreditation, and of course there is a fee that the school would have to pay. Maybe that is why they haven't applied for it so far. Just be aware of this, as other hospitals that are going for Magnet status will have the same restrictions as Clarian eventually, and this will apply to the RN program as well. Alot of people think that the only benefit of the NLN accreditation is that their credits will transfer, but that is not the case.

Medtech is good for helping people pass boards...Not good for skills!

by Laney J.

But hey...
skills are really learnt at the job. Come on y'all!
Another thing... no matter how much training you got at school, every hospital will give you an orientation, and time of shadowing so you learn to perform tasks according to the hospitals protocol, and guidelines.
MedTech doesn't have all great teachers, and yes some read right out of the book. But so do teachers at other schools. Unfortunately, what makes lots of us mad is the fact that we pay so much, and wish we could be treated a little bit more like adults, and with a little more honor, after all, we the students, are bringing in the profits the school is making. It would be so nice to be heard when we approach the staff that claims the students are #1.
On the other hand, having such a high passing percentage of graduates speaks volumes. MedTech has many, many nurses out there licensed. Ready completely to work? Not sure, but licensed, and that's impressive, because to get a job in the first place, you gotta be licensed, no matter school you graduated from.
Would I recommend MedTech to anyone? It depends. If you want to start and finish fast, without many or any prerequisites, MedTech is right for you. If you want to have every class be transferable and count individually towards a higher degree in another school? Run for your life. Wrong school!!!
If you want subjects in depth... this is too accelerated, and it's impossible to dig really deep. If you want to be ready to pass the boards? MedTech is the best school to prepare you for that! Anyway...
Good luck whatever choice you make! Don't be fooled that there's a school out there that is really perfect! None is!!! Also... remember, you'll get out of it, whatever "it" is, what you invest in it. MedTech has been good for a lot of people, and BEST for all those CNA's, and QMA's... I recommend this school to all of those that are already a little experienced in the medical field. For those of us that never worked in a medical office or hospital, we'll graduate MedTech a little raw, and with a lot to desire and learn. All in all, am thankful to have done my LPN work at MedTech. Had I to do it over, would I pick MedTech... hmmm, yeah because I was tired of waiting to get into Ivy Tech. When I'm done, I'm employable and that's important to me in this phase of my life! Like other schools MedTech has good and bad. Take the good with the bad, make the best of it! I feel it paying off already!

GREENWOOD LOCATION OR INDPLS?

by Jayne D.

I was going to visit the Greenwood campus this week. I am interesting in pursuing the medical..possibly nursing...field. I currently have a BS in Business/Marketing Concentration and have taken no science classes. I am told that at Ivy Tech you must take pre-requisite. classes first such as Anatomy and Physiology before even being considered for the nursing program. Then it is possible that you may not even be accepted in the program? Is that the case at Med Tech? Need to get enrolled in classes soon as my full time job was eliminated and I am out of work. Thanks for your help?!

bad experience

by maria c.

I am attending MedTech currently, and I will say that it has been one of the worst experiences of my life. I heard very negative things going before I even attended the informational. I heard that the administration were rude, judgmental, and very difficult. I also heard how much it cost and thought "there is no way it could be that expensive." Well, let me tell you, both of the above claims are CORRECT. The administration is really weird and majorly ghetto. There are so many unprofessional, ridiculous characters running the Indianapolis campus, it isn't even funny. They are liars, deceivers, money- grubbers and would sell their mothers up the river to make an extra dollar. I don't care if you are considering MedTech for medical billing, LPN or learning how to mop a floor, don't do it. The place is disorganized and chaotic. Every quarter or so, we lose about five or six teachers and more crappy, self-righteous ones shipped in. So many people are unhappy with the administration and their turning a blind eye to so many concerns, that they went to the college president. Only after getting a foot on their necks, did the ghetto administration decide to hold a meeting with the students and discuss all the "problems" at the school. This was yet another opportunity for the faculty to waste precious class time and lie about topics such as accreditation, clinicals and possible jobs after graduation. I wish that they would have told all of us the truth and admitted that they don't know or care what happens to the students post graduation. They are too busy being worried about if your financial aid is coming through and if you're thirty seconds late to class. Don't be sucked in by the glitter and glam from the spiel during the informational, it is not legit. By the time you realize what a joke this place is, it is too late and you are stuck. You can't leave because you have spent so much money and time, rearranged your life and invested so much effort in the courses, and the powers that be know that. Be smart and go to a nursing program at IU, Purdue or Ball State, at least they are respectable and honest institutions.

Once again, I defend Med Tech College

by Julia C.

I am a college graduate, magna cum Laud, from Indiana University. I am very educated and have been in an array of diverse educational situations. Med Tech College is a good school. The emphasis is giving mostly underprivileged people an opportunity to be trained in the medical field and to give them a chance to find a good job to improve themselves. I have been attending MTC for almost a year, and have not seen any hitting or fighting. Yes, sometimes things become a bit heated, but it is dealt with in a professional manner, and then we move forward. If you don't like ths school, go somewhere else. Stop criticizing an institution that can be a way out of poverty for so many.

Think Carefully--what kind of experience do you have already.

by Anonymous DS A.

This is not a good school to go to for any skills necessary for the job you want in the Medical professions. You will probably get what you need to practice safely if you already have been a Certified Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aide, Care Partner or other assistant in a medical facility---or have already been given Fundamental instruction at another nursing program. If you have not already gotten this instruction, you will not get it in the Fundamentals Lab--because there isn't one. The instructor who teaches Fundamentals and other courses reads to you from the book. This takes up all of the time which could be used for a Laboratory to teach you the necessary skills. The one graduate who got a job at VA Hospital was probably one of the lucky ones who got to go there for some of their clinical experience. Speaking of clinical experience--in some areas we did not have any clinical experience in the nursing area we were supposed to be learning. The administration would not listen to any of the students when we requested to be given clinical instruction. They seem more concerned about getting the money from us ---not in giving us the proper instruction. Of course, there really wasn't supplies and equipment in the Lab for all of us to practice the skills after we observed them being taught. Many of us were in our final weeks of the program before we were instructed on the skills that we should have learned in the beginning courses. Some of us never got instructed on these skills because there wasn't enough time in clinical experiences at any facility. Others of us graduated without getting the needed skills to practice safely. Some of us passed the State Boards because they gave us a course on the information we would need to pass this exam. Some of my classmates will do OK in patient care because they had already learned how to care for patients and they will ask for assistance if they don't know----others will pretend that they know how to do something and it will be bad for the patients. This school is OK for students who have already taken courses for nursing because they will not have to wait for a space for clinical experience as they sometimes do at other schools.Nurses are needed but is this the way to get more nurses if they are going to be unconcerned about the patient and unsafe? Don't we already have too many nurses who don't want to care for patients and are only in nursing for the money. If you go to this school, you will have to educate yourself or have a nurse at the hospital show you how to do the procedures. There are books which show you how the procedures are supposed to be done--get one. The waiting time at some of the other schools is bad but it is well worth it. Many of the students who have been accepted at this school are so mean to other students, the instructors and also to some of the patients. Nothing is done to teach these students how to properly behave with other people or to be respectful. In fact poor behavior is almost completely ignored by the administration and the owners. It is nothing for a student to hit another student, talk back to an instructor, refuse to follow guidelines published by the school, or even be rude to be rude to a patient. You decide what it is worth to you, take advantage of all opportunities to learn from other nurses and get all the experience you can get wherever you work. Ultimately you are paying a high price for the diploma.

Your experience at Medtech is what you put into it! Loretta

by Loretta C.

First, to the college professor (KT a.): Don't criticize the people who chose to attend this college. I excelled in high school, went to Ball State, changed careers- GRADUATED MEDTECH!!!! I am very proud to have earned my LPN there. It is not a school for people who didn't succeed in high school or other colleges. To the other critics, I never had one class where the teachers were changed throughout a course. The teachers that work there are all RN's including the wonderful clinical instructors. I have experienced teachers at a big university and I would have to say the ones at Medtech cared. I would recommend the school to anyone who is interested in becoming a nurse. I may get my RN there!! I have a great job at Community Hospital and also at a nursing home. Medtech is a new college who continues to improve every year just like other colleges. Ignore the negative comments and check the school out for yourself!! Happy in Anderson. Hi Kelly P., Ms. Brown, Mrs. "O", Karen Brower, Ms. Tames

Against the Odds - Medical Billing and Coding

by J. G.

My experience as a MedTech College Student (Indianapolis) has been insightful and challenging. From the moment I met with my admission's counselor in 2007 to presently interacting with the faculty and staff, I am confident that MedTech College is the correct choice for attaining my goals. The faculty and staff have been encouraging, supportive, and compassionate regarding my continued pursuit in self improvement. Despite the odds of being a single parent of a young child, the loss of a parent, and financial hardship, I made the commitment to strive for Perfect Attendance, Honor Roll, and Dean's List. Respect, professionalism, regulations, and manners have always been a part of my life. MedTech College coincides with my motto(s) that "one can can learn something new daily" and "your attitude towards achieving one's goal comes from within". Part-Time Student/ Graduation October 2009

RN Program

by Cathy M.

I am a 4th quarter RN student at the Indianapolis campus and we will be the first RN graduating class from this campus. The program is an accelerated program and truly not for everyone. However, neither is nursing. I first encourage you to honestly question yourself as to why you want to enter the field of nursing. If it is for the money, then please do us all a favor and find something else. You are taking on a profession that requires an incredible amount of responsibility, diligence, maturity, mental strength and determination; AND IT BEGINS IN SCHOOL. It is probably one of the hardest 2 years you will go through, the program is intense and the dedication required to succeed is great. But that is in ANY nursing program. Med Tech gives you all the tools you need to succeed. How you choose to use those tools is up to you. I hope, for your patients sake, that you will utilize every tool and put your heart and soul into your studies because that is what it is going to take. Med Techs motto is "Dedicated to Graduating Professionals", and that is what they do. Professional means representing your field well and conducting yourself accordingly. By reviewing some of the negative comments, it is clear that those bitter are not professional, or had the maturity, dedication or responsibility to achieve success, but choose to blame the school. The program is adapting to both the needs of the students and the medical community. By doing so, they are constantly striving to become better every day; something I hope everyone does daily. I am proud to be a student at Med Tech and would recommend the school to anyone serious about graduating as a professional in their field.

I love Med Tech College!

by Julia C.

I am enrolled in the Medical Assistant program at Med Tech, and I love it. The education I have received has been phenomenal. The staff and instructors are terrific. They truly do care about the students. I am also on the Student Advisory Board and would highly recommend this school to anyone wanting to further their education. I believe that I will be fully prepared to work in the medical field upon graduation. To those who have posted negative comments about this school, perhaps you should look at yourself before criticizing someone else.

LPN in training

by Maile V.

I am currently enrolled at Medtech for the LPN program, as well as a member of the student advisory board and have one more quarter to go and love the nursing program and the experience it has given me. After I graduate in October of this year I plan to return for the RN program. Medtech is a great school and I would recommend the nursing program to anyone seriously interested in the medical field.
