Ratings_icons Hi-Tek Hair is Not that good

Giuseppe L.

I'd say it's a hit or miss with that place. It was a miss for me. They are overpriced for the quality of work they do. You mostly pay for stuff you don't really need like a soda and couches. The same quality can be acheived in a place like Regis or somethin for cheaper. Plus despite what they say there are shampoos that work just as well as their 80 dollar organic squirt once and you need to get a new bottle shampoo. Overall I'd say go elsewhere.

Ratings_icons ASK ASK ASK first for a quote before sitting in the chair!!

Shelly F.

I just recently went in for highlights at HiTEK. They turned out great, but it was my mistake not to ask for a quote beforehand. The website menu prices are extremely misleading...if anything shamefully manipulative. I was charged DOUBLE the price then what was explicitly stated on the website. Just remember not to make the same mistake I did : ASK for a quote before getting started. I promise this will save you a good chunk of change.

Ratings_icons Horrible Experience

Kate S.

I quit going to hi-tek a few months ago. I made the mistake of going back there after I had a horrible experience with Josh. I waited for 25 minutes for him to show up for my appointment. Rebecca had to go outside to grab him because he was taking a smoke break. I am pretty sure he was completely stoned when he got back.

I went back a second time (bad idea on my part!) and Rebecca did my hair. She was incredibly rude, tried to push me to get highlights by saying how boring my hair looked, and then tried to push products on me after I insisted that I did not have any extra money. I am a college student...I just needed a hair cut, nothing else.

I am desperate to find a good salon here...so far I have found nothing that compares to my stylist back at home.

I started going to Hi-Tek about a year and a half ago. Rebecca spent most of the afternoon with me, as I was undecided on a new hairstyle. I absolutely love my hair cut now. I see her regularly to keep the cut up to date and look forward to going there. My boyfriend has even starting going there and sees Melissa and he loves the way his hair is done. I get compliments on my hair all of the time. I usually watch my dollars and cents and go for things that cost less. It doesn't bother me a bit to pay the higher price. After all you get what you pay for!! I get the best here!

Ratings_icons Where to go for good color??

mary h.

They do a great job w/ color - mine has never looked or felt better. As far as the hair cut - WOW- not good at all. Price is a little high (especially for a hair cut that I had to try to correct myself when I got home, more then one time) but until I find somewhere else that can do as good a job (color) I have to stick w/ them. Help!!! Any suggestions???

Ratings_icons Really... Let's just say, interesting.

I, a former employee of hi-tek hair wouldn't recommend this salon to anyone. Great idea...not executed. The owner and her son are liars and con-artists who don't care a bit about their clientele. They are out for the dollar for their drugs. How professional to come and expect the best out of your employees when you are not. Swaying and chopping up hair was not the name I wanted for myself in this " high" end salon! How can you expect to charge people for a great service and not be present at work?! I challenge the owner to get high on life and get her salon back to the status it had 15 years ago before she loses it. Lying, cheating, and selling people will get you no where!

Ratings_icons Best Hair Color I Have Ever Had

Sue S.

A really professional salon with very talented stylists. I have always sought out the very best salons with someone who understands color, a really good cut, knows what my hair will and won't do and what style looks good on my face shape. This salon is among the very best. There is nothing more discouraging than a cut that has no style or color that did something different than the sample they show you. These people know what they are doing. It is not inexpensive, but you get what you pay for and nothing is more expensive than something that isn't right for you. It was a great experience and I highly recommend them. Also, the quality of their color product was great, which is their speciality.

Ratings_icons Another Hillbilly Salon trying to pass as something amazing.

Joe A.

I go to a salon to get my haircut...not butchered. Never in my life have I had somebody have such disregard for my opinion. If I am not dressed like a jersey frat boy, and I ask for a medium length cut, why would you assume that I would love the jersey blowout??? Never again will I get my hair cut by a person wearing CARGO KHAKI PANTS!!! I have never seen products pushed so unashamedly in my life...Does ANYBODY have a suggestion of where to get a halfway in-style haircut in Bloomington, IN?

Wow, that 5 star review below is one of the most obviously fake reviews I have ever seen. Who on earth even uses the word "hair artist" for some local high school drop out who cuts your hair???

Ratings_icons Hi Tek Unprofessional

Thank you to the person who let all of us know where to find Eliabeth Robinson. I called Hi Tek this morning to make an appointment with Elizabeth and they were RUDE AS HELL TO ME. They wouldn't tell me where she went and only insisted on making me an appointment with Rebecca. PLEASE I wouldn't let her touch my hair. NEWS FLASH, maybe if people were treated better by the people who work their they wouldn't leave.

Ratings_icons Elizabeth has moved on!

I recently found out that my stylist Elizabeth Robinson (Jones) no longer works at Hi-Tek. I had been told that she was out on "sabbatical". After a little google search, I found that she is now in business for herself in Indy and Martinsville and can now be found at WWW.SENOJSALON.COM. Hopefully you all can find her as easy as I did!

Ratings_icons good place

I have been to some pretty awful places. It is so hard to find a place that does a good job on highlights. I have always had a good experience here. They do a good job, my hair looks natural and the cut is always cute. I actually started going to hitek after I got really screwed at Del Mondo or mongo or whatever the call themselves...That place is awful!!! So, I went to hitek and for a much cheaper price compared to del mondo I got good service. The people have always been very friendly as well. I actually drive from Muncie where I moved to get my hair done. It's so hard to find a place that does a good job, its worth the price and the drive to make sure I don't have to wear a hat afterwards.

Ratings_icons You're better off cutting your hair at home!!

Anonymous

I have never had such a terrible hair cut in my life (and I normally go to cheap places like Great Clips or Fantastic Sam's). Today I decided to splurge just for fun and try out a fancy salon. What a mistake! All I asked for was for my hair to be cut to my chin, with some layers. I even provided the stylist with a picture of what I wanted. Seems simple enough, right? When they were finished it seemed a little uneven, but I figured that maybe they just weren't styling it the way that I'm used to. So I payed, went home and tried to style it myself, only to realize that, on closer inspection, it could not be fixed!!! The hair on the left side of my head is an INCH longer and twice as thick as on the right side!! Also, there are about 10 strands of hair on the back of my head that were never even cut (so, basically, those strands are about 3 inches longer than the rest!!) The layers look hideous (not even at all), and all of my friends definitely noticed right away that it looked uneven and that the strands hanging down in the back were "extremely obvious." I guess I should have insepcted it better at the salon. So, extremely self-conscious about the way it looked, I went back to Hi-Tek to talk to the owner. She stated that "sometimes these things can happen if you cross your legs when they're cutting your hair." First of all, my stylist never told me my legs had to be uncrossed. Second of all, they were not crossed. Third, I highly doubt that would be the cause of a few strands of my hairs being 3 inches longer than others! The owner tried to get me to make an appointment to come in the following day to get it recut, but I was honestly scared that the same thing was going to happen, and they would botch it up even more, so I told her I would just like the money back instead. She was SO reluctant to give me my money back, it was amazing. Then she had the nerve to go on and ask me what my major was. I responsed, "I'm in medical school." She then asked me how I expected to deal with my patients who were unhappy with their services, trying to get me to feel guilty that I asking for my money back! I still cannot believe how such a seemingly up-scale salon could botch up a simple haircut so bad, and furthermore how it was so difficult for this salon to refund $40 (which is probably pocket change for them) to a dissatisfied customer. Oh, and have fun with them trying to force a bunch of things down your throat that you don't need. During my 40-minute hair cut I was asked if I wanted more highlights, if I wanted all my hair dyed back to its natural color, if I wanted deep conditioning, if I wanted a bottle of shampoo, if I wanted a bottle of conditioner, and if I wanted shine spray. No, I actually want a haircut that I won't be embarassed to go out in public in...Thanks.

Ratings_icons pay less for better quality at the mall

Anonymous

I went to Hi-Tek a few times as a freshman because it was across the street. I asked for a different style every time and came out with a typical sorority straight hair plain cut. My hair has a lot of volume, so I usually want to tone it down a little, but most stylists love to work with it because it's so versitile. At Hi-Tek they just made it look like flat skimpy hair, even though after the first time that is specifically not what I asked for.

Prices are a little high for Bloomington because (as far as I can tell) they include the price of gratuity. Tips are a way of telling your stylist how well they did. Hi-Tek assumes they're fabulous so they charge you a big mandatory tip, but insist they don't take gratuities.

The product speeches are really annoying. Other places in town don't do that.

I now go to Felicia at Mia and Maxx at the mall and she does a fantastic job on mid-lengh and long styles. It's new every time and I feel comfortable sitting back in the chair and letting her create, but she also listens to what I want out of the cut.

Ratings_icons Keep coming back!

Marcie G.

I started going to Hi-Tek while I was in school at IU. Ever since I've moved away (FL & VA) I have not been able to find a salon that does hi-lights like they do. So evenly & natural. I even traveled from FL back to Hi-Tek to get my hair cut & hi-lighted before my wedding. They are THAT GOOD! Their prices are pretty high - but comparable to most places I've been. The only thing that does bug me is that I get the same thing done everytime with the same stylist and the price is never the same. But it is sooo worth it in the end. I recommend both Robin & Rebecca.

Ratings_icons Best stylist in town works at Hi Tek!!!

A V.

I think Elizabeth Jones, a stylist at Hi Tek Hair, is and has been for years one of the best stylists in town; her skill/artistic level is superior and I have never gone wrong as her client. I say this from experience because years ago I made the rounds in Bloomington looking for a person who could properly care for my long curly hair, which in the wrong hands can turn out disastrously. (And believe me, I have experienced my share of hair disasters in my 30-some years!!)I have been a client of hers off and on for the last 10 years. (I moved out of town for a few years and then returned - and for a while I was making weekend trips to town to continue to get my hair cut by her, because I couldn't find someone locally as good as her.) I think Hi Tek's prices are very reasonable for a salon of their caliber - the people who complain about their prices must never have been serviced at a comparable-quality salon in a major urban area. Plus, the stylists do not accept tips because they are all salaried employees.

Ratings_icons These people are hustlers!

MS. S.

Oh my gosh. The 5 star review was obviously written by someone who works there! Check the yahoo reviews. NO one is happy. Upon my first visit, I liked the staff and loved the work of the Owner. After going back several times, I became quite disappointed. Bottom line - they are hustlers. The prices for highlights were very high for Bloomington. I never received an itemized receipt displaying how they got to their $120+ fee for highlights. Add a haircut and you walk out spending no less than $180+. The owner has assistants push multiple $10-$25 products in your face during your service and upon checking out of the salon. Services are also pushed in your face. I was never seen at the proper appointment time. I had to wait anywhere form 15-45 minutes for my appointment. There is no sense of repeat customer loyalty here.

PROS: none
CONS: Hustlers, high prices for bloomington.

Ratings_icons First ClassTreatment

Tamara S.

If you want to be treated like a star and have the best trained colorists in town, go to Hi-Tek Hair. I've been going to this salon for 7 years, and these professionals never stop amazing me.

All hair artists are up-to-date on trends and training--they go to at least one show every season, and have studied with and are certified by some of the top colorists abroad. Hi-Tek stylists really listen to what you want, and are always happy to tweak a modern cut or style to meet your own taste (and believe me, mine has changed over the years!).

In fact, this is one of the things I like best about Hi-Tek, their versatility. If you are interested, theyll educate you about their processes and methods, or you can just relax into their capable hands for a soothing beauty service.

Their passion for hair extends to health and care; every product in the salon (some of which they exclusively carry) is backed by their detailed knowledge about the ingredients, and recommendations are based specifically towards what is best for your hair and your lifestyle.

I've patronized hair studios in large cities in the US and overseas, and Hi-Tek provides comparable high-class salon service with hometown Bloomington warmth.

You are always greeted and remembered with a warm hello, a beverage, and a smile. Prices are competitive, no gratuities accepted. These people not only care about your hair, but about you!

PROS: Color services, Public Relations, Professionalism
CONS: That there aren't more salons around like them.

I got suckered into going to Hi Tek once. It too froo froo for me usually, but this girl gave me gift certificate cause she was leaving town. If I has paid for my crappy haircut I would rate this place lower. And i don't think I signed up on for a lecture on shampoos and hair masks or whatever. Don't go there even if it's free. Maybe if they pay you.
