My husband, my father and I had dinner at Dick's last night. It was a less than satisfactory experience. We ordered and our cups of soup were brought to us. Although my lentil soup was delicious, my husband's chicken noodle had a surprise in it! On his second bite, he found a butter wrapper from one of the single serve butters found on the table. When he brought it to the server's attention, she offered more soup (from a pot that obviously had "extra" items in it, which he declined. At no time did she apologize for this. The food was acceptable but by no means anything to write home about. And for a server to be indifferent to "extra" items in the soup is just plain unacceptable. We won't return to Dick's.

The one thing that has stuck in my mind, is the fact that they do NOT change the oil for frying their chicken, fries, etc. often enough and everything looked very dark and tasted like grease!
This was definitely one of the worst dining experiences we've had in a very long time!

In my opinion. this restaurant has been what one would consider a fine dining establishment in Lake county Indiana. In the past four decades that our family has frequented this business the food, service, and atmosphere has always been a pleasant experience. However, a recent visit tainted these old fashioned, family friendly supper club memories. While the food was still at its usual quality, the waitresses complaints about their life, gossiping, and general loud demeanor left our dinner party disappointed with the $40-50 we choose to spend on our meal. That "special" dinner experience that some people may still be looking for was missing from this dining experience. Matter of fact, the manager on duty, in a follow-up phone call, dismissed that our perception of the dining experience was even part of what the restaurant would want for its patrons. This writer is disappointed to say the least. The region does have other choices of quality dining establishments where quality is considered and desired by the proprietors in not only the food offered, but the diner's experience. One might want to consider this in their selection.

It's a little stuffy in an old fashioned sort of way. They have two rooms, the bar area is a huge shoeshoe shape with tables and booths surrounding. Very dark with a men's club feel. But the restaurant has high ceiling and is decorated with lively kites & lighting. It's still dark enough for each table to have an oil lamp on it. But come for the food it is great! Each meal starts with bean salad, cottage cheese & cole slaw - gratis! All of the entrees that I've tried are reliably good. They have a kid's menu with smaller portions. The steaks are great, chicken (broasted) is good, my fav veal picatta! They come with soup, salad and potatoes (broated potatoes are their speciality!) Your parents will love it & so will you!
