Yes I lived in Castle Point for only a year before I had enough. Three fires, arachnids every where and total invasion of privacy. I mean come on the place didn't allow dogs yet there were pit bulls on the property. Management refused to salt the grounds in the winter, the reason and I quote "The price of salt is too expensive we use sand for better traction." What do I say to that - Better yet lets use kitty litter or throw hot water everywhere. On several occasions I couldn't even leave the property because no one could drive out due to the ice build up at the entrance. That was just ridiculous. Maintenance were always in my apartment they may as well have lived there. Just come on through unannounced I don't mind and if I am not at home just let your self in. How about maintenance go to our laundry room and fix that ceiling that's about to cave in at any moment. Yes my hot water heater broke. Wow and what about that clubhouse. Spa was great but the pool has a ring around it and bugs galore. Try swimming in that! Then they have the nerves to charge extra if you bring a guest. I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone.

That about sums up my experience in my three years at Castle Point. The parking is highly problematic, with only one assigned space per tenant. Snow removal practices leave much to be desired: the plows have a tendency to fill parking spots with snow,. rather than clearing it away. The parking lots are also built in such a way as to be flood-prone, with water backing up to a foot or more.

The laundry facilities are nearly always broken, and attention to called-in repairs is provided at a langorous pace at best. Maintenance takes no interest in significant structural problems (such as massive wet-rot in the bathroom). Fixtures are poor quality, appliances prone to breakage (including such things as the water heater). The exterior walls are extremely poorly insulated.

There is nominally a security guard, paid to ensure that unauthorized access to the grounds does not occur. This, though, has not solved a spate of arsons. In my time at the complex, there have been no fewer than eleven fires. Fortunately the complex is situated less than half a mile from the fire station.

In short? Not recommended. Had I known more of the complex in advance, I would not have chose to make it my temporary South Bend home.

Castle Point offers lots of amenities in their apartments. They are fairly good sized, and offer a manned entrance gate and other perks. However, be aware that this is a very popular complex with local students. IT tends to be much noiser than some of the other complexes in the area becuase of this. If noise is a concern, I would look elsewhere. Otherwise, they do ahve nice apartments.
